In '73 My Army 8th ID unit in Mainz, Germany was prepared to deploy to Israel because the Soviets were making serious noises about coming to help their Arab proxies and President Nixon had us in US Army Europe prepare to counter the Soviets. Ultimately, the Soviets or Sovs as the Brits called them decided NOT to interfere so we stood down from our loadout. I do remember all the C-5As coming in and out of Rhein-Main AFB in Frankfurt passing over loaded with M60 tanks to replace the IDF losses. The Arabs attacked during this High Holy period and while the IDF losses were heavy they were eventually able to defeat their enemies. Unfortunately, history says Golda Meir had to resign, as a result.

Very good explanation of Yom Kippur day. History of Jewish people sad. Its long past time for respect allowed to live in peace. I stand with Israel many blinded westerners need to think "how would you feel if your neighbours attacked butchered your family loved ones friends taking hostages held in cruel conditions to prevent retaliation 'at every opportunity' then sworn to do it again again again swearing to kill every one of you for no justifiable reason?" The day is superb shared with all Jews like Christian good friday. Jesus was Jewish fact overlooked unite with Christians we need each other in the face of islams hate.

Love this! Especially number 1. For me I’m reminded of the hostages who are forced to fast every day. 😢

I heard the Napoleon story happened on Tisha b’Av…that he asks what the people were wailing about, was told, asked how long ago it happened, was told, then said a people that remembers a loss that long deserved to have its temple restored.

As a Christian I don't know much about Judaism, so what a great article for me to learn from.

Thanks you and blessings on Israel.

Your post on the lesser-known aspects of Yom Kippur was fascinating—such a rich dive into its spiritual depth! It got me thinking about the broader challenges facing our shared Judeo-Christian heritage, like the sobering warning “First the Saturday people, then the Sunday people,” which highlights threats to these foundational values. I just wrote this article exploring why standing with Israel is crucial to preserving them. It’s a concise, thought-provoking read. It is also a reminder that there is a great High Priest Who has laid down His life for the atonement of His people - Jesus Christ, the Messiah, Who died to atone for all our sins and rose again, thus defeating sin and death. Eternal life is available to any who receive Him.
