A very thought provoking essay, Joshua. I get my news, information, and opinions from as many sources as I can absorb in each day. This holds true for the war and current events and politics in Israel as well as America. This allows me the opportunity to form broad perspectives with as little bias as possible given my conservative religious nature. I keep an open mind without wandering too far. Your site is one I trust and respect.
When I was a young man I worked in the media as a film cameraman. We travelled extensively and I worked closely with reporters in filming stories. What I learned then, and it's probably so much worse now, is that there its very rare to find an 'objective' journalist. They all bring their personal prejudicies to the story that they cover. As to the relations with the powerful, they all drink in the same bars, stay at the same hotels, travel in the same social circles, and are 'just another brick in the wall' of the things we are fed. Of course they don't want you to know that. They like to preen in front of the camera as having 'got the story', and 'held people accountable'. It truly is the fourth estate. Never more than these days of wokeism and mass formations. Independent sources are vital right now to get the real story out.
I find your suggestions very solid, and in a way similar to what has been a successful philosophy for me in wrestling "Don't let 'em"!
If an opponent moves to manipulate me to the right, I move to the left. If they try to move me to the left, I move to the right.
In terms of Substack, I deliberately read anti Israel stacks for the opportunity to debunk the droolery that characterizes Jew Hate.
It is astounding to see generally incisive reporters sounding like the day's Al Jazeera broadcast, or worse, the typical semi literate full on Jew Hater site.
It's useful to lead with that, the fact that the departure from rational, verifiable reportage causes me Cognitive Dissonance.
One recent post asked the board if any of them professed belief in the " God of the Bible"and if so, did they not realize that "Armegeddon" is precisely about God's vengeance on Jew Haters?
One challenged me to provide scripture but not from a "Scofield'
Bible.
I replied that she could choose from dozens of translations on Bible Gateway or Bible Hub and offered Joel 3 as short and to the point and Deuteronomy 32 for a broader perspective.
I got no further response, from her, the page, or the author.
But at the very least, those who took time to read the citations are now without excuse.
Hopefully some will be moved to repent from endangering themselves promoting the cursing of Israel.
An excellent article. It is shocking and painfully true. This is a subject that I continue to get very emotional about.
