This was outrageous and heartbreaking! This has set the world back years in curing and solving dreadful diseases. Israel has always been at the forefront of pioneering research. For the scientists, this must be heartbreaking!
Thank you for raising this global tragedy to a slightly higher level of awareness. Once again it is incredible how little attention this tragic situation received in legacy media. How sad that beyond the small family of scientists who jumped to help, the world has not grasped that the well-being of humanity has been seriously set back by Iran’s desperate act of hatred and destruction.
There is always silence when it comes to Jews...ALWAYS. If I extrapolate out, the world expects we are somehow impervious to harm and hurt. No matter what happens to the Jews, they'll be fine. They have money, smarts... blah blah blah. It's just Jews. Nothing to see here.
Simply put, to intentionally destroy a center devoted to the improvement of humanity is a crime against humanity and an assault on its future. The silence is deafening.
I don't know why any Jew expects the inherently antisemitic world to show empathy. The few who do are remarkable, as remarkable as those who saves Jewish lives during the Holocaust. The contribution of Jews to the world will continue and the deafness of most of the world will continue too. The French have a saying, 'the more things change, the more they stay the same'.
Any apologies from the Islamic community? Good indication of Islamic values. Please acknowledge Prime Minister Carney, that these cannot be Canada’s values.
That sole Weizmann Institute had more original research and ground breaking discoveries for the benefit of ALL humanity than the combined medical research output of all countries in the Middle East.
A very steep price to pay for the indiscriminate targeting of civilians.
the reproduction rates of that demographic are the real ballistic missile headed for civilization. How many Nobel award winners do they offer to the world?
Maybe if Israel hadn’t been blowing up everything from colleges, to mosques, to elementary schools in Gaza, people may have been able to muster a little sympathy. If that institute (or any other Jewish affiliated location) had been anywhere else in the world and got attacked, there would be an outpouring of outrage and calls for justice. But the fact that it was in Israel kinda looks like a droplet of justice was served.
Israel attacked anything that was a refuge for and hiding place for Hamas including schools mosques and hospitals all of which lost their noncombatant status for such conduct There was no military role whatsoever at Weizmann
Tell that to the mountain of dead kids. Tell that to the orphans who lost their whole families. Make that distinction to the throngs of starving refugees being gunned down for the oh so aggressive and combative move of approaching humanitarian aid depots.
Again, if that institute had been attacked anywhere else in the world, there would be a deafening outcry. But Israel’s capital of perpetual victimhood for getting punched back has been spent. No one cares anymore when you indiscriminately murder children. And if you think shooting through the bodies of children to get to enemy combatants is acceptable, then I would submit too few missiles landed on institutes in Israel over the years because that may be the only thing that teaches Israel why what they have been doing is not ok.
"the mountain of dead kids....orphans who lost their whole families....indiscriminately murder children....the bodies of children..."
Just when I thought Western liberals couldn't top their creepy victim fetish during the BLM era, here comes the newest must-have accessory for our age of conspicuous compassion, the Palestinian baby!
I don't think I've ever seen a conflict where more crocodile tears were shed, with accompanying moral denunciations (from keyboard warriors who live in safety and know nothing but their own self-regard), than this outpouring of pretend concern for the beloved Palestinian baby—not even during the Rwandan or Darfur genocides, not for the wars in Ukraine or the Chinese conquest of Tibet, did Western liberals ever fixate so totally, fetishistically and ritually on babies and their pain and blood.
I wonder why this is? I guess when all the facts are against you and you have to spew hateful lies like Israel "indiscriminately murder[s] children", when the real bloodthirsty barbarism took place on 10/7 (when Hamas started this war with a massacre of innocents), when the truth is Israel and the IDF are the only entities who even acknowledge human rights and the concept of war crimes in the entire region, and when Hamas and its leaders have said repeatedly for decades that THEY DON'T CARE how many of their own people die, as long as they can destroy Israel—I guess if you still want to run with the crowd and paint the world's only Jewish state as a pariah guilty of 1001 crimes, you have to wave the bloody infant and pretend that Israel isn't fighting a defensive war against a genocidal theocratic death cult who could end all this suffering at any moment by just surrendering and returning the hostages.
And if you don't believe me, here's Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas Political Bureau Chairman: "As I said, and I repeat every time, the blood of the children, women, and elderly – I do not say that it shouts out to you, but rather we need this blood so that it will ignite within us the spirit of revolution, so that it will arouse within us persistence, so that it will arouse within us defiance and a forward advance.”
Hamas may be terrible at governing but they're masters at emotionally manipulating gullible Western liberals and their weepy self-absorbed pseudo-humanitarianism.
Every word you wrote was both a lie and stupid. Congrats! May there be a Palestinian baby under the Christmas tree for you this December. All the cool kids want one!
See that’s where you’re wrong, dipshit. I’m not a liberal. Just when I thought a Zionist couldn’t contort itself any more grotesquely, one like you comes along squealing and about how the bloody infant is just a prop and not an actual bloody infant bloodied by Israeli bullets.
Also, I meant "liberal" in the most expansive sense, as in just about every Westerner (esp the doughy white boys who still play w Star Wars toys), who believe life should always be governed by fairness, due process, democratic proceduralism etc, and who can't seem to acknowledge that for some people battles are more existential and less idealistic (and masturbatory), and that not everyone has been blessed to live in plenty and safety.
Also, why can't a bloody infant be both a bloody infant killed in a war AND a prop? People have turned bloody infants into causes, crusades, PR campaigns, pretexts for all kinds of deeds, whether sacred or sinister. Did you read the quote I included? All these dead babies are PROPS for Hamas, they say so themselves, repeatedly. Arafat said it, Sinwar said it, they've all said it for decades. Am I the villain here for heeding them?
THINK OF THE CHILDREN is the lowest form of argument, the lowest form of moral and emotional blackmail, and in this case is just another piece of propaganda (along w all the other slanders like apartheid genocide settler-colonialism) meant to delegitimize the Jewish state and paint it as a unique evil that must be destroyed.
Israel is simply fighting a defensive war against a barbaric enemy that has genocide written into its charter and which uses its own people as human shields. Everything else is a lie and/or bait for useful idiots.
There's video evidence of Hamas & affiliated Corrupt Aid workers using children as just that: props for their photo propaganda.
Examples I've seen:
1. A child is offered a platter of food covered in silver foil for a photo. Once the photo is taken, the food is taken back and the child is left bewildered.
2. A child collects a heavy container of water from the water tanker. A kindly aid worker (or someone dressed as an aid worker) offers to carry it for the child who initially hesitates but then accepts the offer. This is videoed for aabout a minute then the video guy moves away for another propaganda shot. Meanwhile the kindly aid worker turns around and walks back to the tanker with the child's water, leaving a confused miserable child behind without looking back.
3. A child is offered a nice treat with a warm smile and friendly gestures while the interaction is filmed. As soon as filming finishes the man reaches out to take the food back. The child tries to hold onto it, looking perplexed, but the smile has gone and the child releases the food reluctantly.
Talk about sicko !!!
Not only but also:
Filmed evidence of fellow Gazan men being attacked with sticks, kicked and even shot by Hamas henchmen.
Apparently, some Gazans are very concerned about how they're being a used by their 'leadership' and affiliated aid workers to risk filming of these practices as evidence to post online.
These Gazans want the world to know how Hamas treats them.
You're not helping them by believing Hamas' elaborate performative lies.
I didn’t say I believe Hamas. Where, ever in the history of ever, do you find me saying that. But I don’t play whataboutism when it comes to the immorality of slaughtering children. I don’t care what the objective is. Shooting through children to hit military targets means you don’t get to claim any moral high ground. Period. The IDF are not the good guys here. Hamas can be the most barbaric, destructive, morally bankrupt organization on earth—and they arguably are just that—but that does not excuse the IDF or Israel for murdering those children when those children need rescuing in that situation. I expect Hamas to be Hamas. One would expect “God’s chosen” (and I do say that with the most sarcastic of air quotes) to behave differently. Or, at least, I would expect that had I not read the way “God’s chosen” enshrined and glorified their history of genocide utter contempt for the lives of the people of that region in the Old Testament.
When Hamas stops using women children and the disabled as human shields and running tunnels through infant’s bedrooms they will no longer be legitimate collateral targets in a war of aggression started by Hamas with the aid and encouragement of Iran
This right here demonstrates every reason zionists are hated. Not to be confused with Jewish people—Zionists. People who will contort themselves in the most grotesque ways to justify the murder of innocents.
Is it lost on the rest of you that this goblin mentioned a number of aggressors and offenders yet Palestinians were not listed among them? And yet it still found justification for killing…infants. If that isn’t a robust prosecution of its and those who like its mindsets and moral bankruptcy, then there’s nothing that will convince other than more bombs falling on Israel.
The ONLY entity responsible for death in Gaza is Hamas. Period. You can squawk all you want about Israel, but you're wrong. That you'll never believe that is your problem.
And you can squeal that propaganda all you about Palestine but it won’t change the cold, hard facts that it shrapnel from Israeli bombs riddling the corpses of those children. There is a reason that Zionists are reviled and hated and it’s the defense of murder that you guys practice.
In any other context besides Israel, the atrocities that Israel has committed would be indefensible. And Israel has burned through all the good will and benefit of the doubt the world has to offer.
Actually, Joseph, a lot of that shrapnel is from Hamas or because Hamas would not allow the children to get to safety... Human Shields.
What's more, there are also many Israeli orphans and dead children - Jews, Arabs, Christians & Druze - because of Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, PA (IRAN'S regime & proxies )--- oh, & the PLO.
I agree. There are a lot of orphans because of Hamas. And it is wrong for Hamas to use children as human shields. Not to put too fine a point on it though, use of human shields is effective when in a position of defense because a moral opponent who sees those shields as human will not attack because they see more value in the life of the shields than they do in the military objective.
Hamas certainly underestimated the depravity of Israel.
Douglas Murray in his latest book quoted an IDF major who said that every house in Gaza that the IDF searched had copies of the Koran Mein Kamph and anti Semitic tracts . Contrary to the Hamas propaganda that you seem to have accepted there is neither a Schindler nor any righteous Gentiles among the residents of Gaza who would provide information as to the location of a single hostage
I don’t believe a word that comes out of Israel’s mouth when it comes to the Palestinians. I find it laughable that people barely scraping by with Israeli boots on their necks are spending money on German literature.
I don’t believe a word that comes out of Hamas’s mouth when it comes to Israel. I find it laughable that they are the innocent freedom fighters they’ve tried to present themselves as, especially given they are funded by Iran and their leadership lives abroad.
I know you’d like paint me as some Hamas sympathizer or terrorism apologist but that’s not helping your case. It’s a well accepted fact that when one can’t argue their case on merit, they devolve to smearing the motives or the person themselves.
It falls on deaf ears here. I know right from wrong. I wish more of you guys did, too.
For those interested see this article by Andrew Roberts a prominent British scholar as to why the population of Gaza should be treated exactly the same as any other nation that launched an unsuccessful war of aggression

Real talk. You fire 1 missile into Tel Aviv and you're gonna hit something of value.
Fire 1 into Tehran, Beirut, Gaza and you would have a net loss of one missile
Simply put, to intentionally destroy a center devoted to the improvement of humanity is a crime against humanity and an assault on its future. The silence is deafening.
Spot on!
Damn the attackers!
Great article Francisco Bernal! I spent some time at the Michon Weizmann in 1989. A truly fabulous research institution!!
I don't know why any Jew expects the inherently antisemitic world to show empathy. The few who do are remarkable, as remarkable as those who saves Jewish lives during the Holocaust. Total tragedy. CAR-T will eventually replace bone marrow transplants. A good thing!

When an aggressor uses children to prevent losing a war it will suffer the consequences as did the Confederacy Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan
Lots of Germans and Japanese suffered the same consequences for actively fighting for their equally repugnant regimes

You know what you've chosen to learn or believe. Hamas appeared to have a video camera brigade attached to it on 7/10.
Ask yourself why it has never been deployed to broadcast the "crimes" of Israel?
Might have something to do with the fact that on October 7, it was Hamas that was committing the atrocities. It’s not that deep.
