In one class I mentioned Israel for some reason pertaining to the course content. Suddenly, all the students expressed hostility, something I had never seen before. When I questioned them about it, they said that their attitude was due to what a history professor had taught them. Then the political science department welcomed a "Palestinian" young man as if he was a celebrity. The chairperson gave him a personal tour of the university, as he discussed his "victimhood." At the same time, the administration was eliminating the philosophy department, the home of critical thinking, by attrition. Philosophy generally teaches various universal forms of ethics, rather than relativism besides having explicit courses on critical thinking. Given these experiences, I can relate to the insights in the article, especially those about how contemporary education is corrupting the American mind.
My Grandson 20 years ago was being taught in 10th grade in a suburban Philadelphia High school 15 miles west of Philadelphia in a middle class neighborhood that Jews were the new Nazi's and Israel was the New Nazi Germany. I've come to believe that very little about civilization happens organically. So much appears scripted for our consumption. It seems to me that any elected official, from local positions all the way to the presidency, gets entrusted with power only after some kind of control-file has been obtained, something that can be leveraged if necessary to influence their decisions and votes.
