I usually enjoy your insights and analysis but this time, I feel you truly played neutral trying to equate both parties being bad for Jews. Trump has proven himself THROUGH HIS POLICIES and ACTIONS to have been one of, if not the best President for the Jewish people and for Israel. The Abraham Accords alone would have given him the Nobel Peace Prize if he was not Trump. The Republicans are the choice that Jews have to make because another 4 years of Dems rule would destroy us. Between WOKE, DEI, White Oppressors etc etc, we better make contingency plans to move to Israel or somewhere where there is low antisemitism. The reason you were neutral IMHO is because you did not want to turn off Left leaning Jews from buying a paid subscription. Basically, you sold out. ahimsa papa j
UPDATE ON THIS COMMENT ----- I was being unfair to accuse Joshua of playing up to his left based leadership. I had just started reading Future of Jewish and i labelled him based on the one article. I have to confess that I was wroing. papa j
Accusing the author of selling out is unfair. He was simply reminding Jews that even if Trump wins, the history of American support for Israel does not suggest comfort for Jews. The left antisemitism currently awash in America and the West is not going to disappear just as four years of a Trump presidency is not going to prevent, even if it delays, America's drift to decline. Something much bolder is needed. However, you are right that in the current context it is a no-brainer as to how American Jews should vote: solidly for Trump. And Jewish organizations should say that loud and clear.
Stephen. what can i tell you? I am a cynical old Jew from Brooklyn and seem to always look for ulterior motives. In my defense, I am right at times. I appreciate your input. Thanks my friend and all the best. ahimsa papa j
Lilly had obama initiated the Abraham Accords, he would have gotten the Nobel Peace prize but because it was Trump that did it, virtually nothing was said.
Anything and everything good that Trump has done has been ignored, overlooked and pilloried for it . We need to come to a single standard and not the double standards and hypocrisy that exists in the world today . Yes you’re right about the Abraham accords being very important to achieving peace and security in the Middle East .
This is just my opinion but Iran orchestrated the Oct 7 attack cuz they did not want Saudi Arabia and Israel to sign an agreement. That would have changed the whole dynamic in the Middle East
You’re absolutely correct and Saudi Arabia was on the brink of signing that agreement . It’s on hold for now but they will come around once the war is over.
I am banking on it. The big thing for me is November. The Republicans IMHO have to win or life for Jews is going to get much worse. I invited you to my FB group but you never replied? is it the cologne i am wearing LOL papa j
If any of you are on Facebook, there is a great FB Group called LOVE ISRAEL. STOP HATE. There is no censorship and all political views are posted. The link is https://www.facebook.com/groups/loveisrael.stophate
Support of Israel is appreciated from ANY source, but to clarify, the group you are suggesting is an evangelical Christian group. Again, your support is appreciated!
I agree with Jerry and others that there is too much both-sidesing all things in America, this essay included.
It’s hard for this liberal-minded person to admit, but in terms of actions—not words—Trump has been better for Israel and Jews than Biden. Not only did he (Jared) get the Saudis to agree to normalization with Israel, He got them to do that without promising the Arabs of Gaza and Judea a single thing. Now Biden is backtracking on many of the elements to which the Saudis had agreed, and to the detriment of Israel.
Not sure I quite agree with this article. It is another quid pro quo. It misrepresents conservative Americans as potentially anti-semitic. There will always be antisemitic Americans but the violence we see now in America is almost 100% from the Progressive left or Moslem Americans. As far as Israel goes, until Biden overrules his antisemitic state dept nothing will change. He is a puppet and the state dept has a 70 year history of being Anti-zionistic as well as antisemitic. There is no difference in the except for politician.
Very well said .... you know who supports Trump overwhelmingly? The Orthodox and the Israelis. The orthodox know who is attacking them in the streets and it is not the Left. ahimsa papa j
Note: Not only did the Trump team negotiate the Abraham Accords, they got the Saudis to agree to leave the Arabs in Gaza and Judea out of the discussion. Biden is backtracking on those elements of the deal to the detriment of Israel.
Biden would also never have moved the embassy to Jerusalem. And anyone who thinks Arabs have a greater claim to Jerusalem is not relevant to a valid discussion on the topic of “colonizing” and “cultural appropriation”. Those who hate those things would advocate for the removal of the structures the colonizing Arabs built on The Temple Mount in an effort to culturally appropriate the holiest site in Judaism.
I appreciate your opening sentiment that "We cannot depend on either Biden or Trump," HOWEVER, I felt it needed to be underscored in your close that in THIS situation, the lesser evil is to vote for Trump. Overwhelmingly, Biden and his lovely VP & Blinkin-Shit cabinet have dogged, blamed, and abandoned Israel, American Jews, the Jewish Diaspora, & true democracy. Biden & his cronies winning the next election is tantamount to a protracted spraying of insecticide on the Jewish people and our land Israel, & watching us slowly die. BIDEN = SUICIDE., or at the very least aiding & abetting it. One cannot depend on people reading between the lines (Trump is the lesser evil & the better/ONLY choice for Israel) when readers are roped in by a message of neutrality. I wish you had ended by taking the choice away from neutrality & stating this clearly.
Trump moved our embassy to Jerusalem . Trump agreed to sell Israel refueling tankers to Israel but Biden cancelled that deal on his first day as President . This has denied Israel the ability to determine when they can act independently versus the Iranian nuclear facilities-like they did with Saddam's and Assad's reactors. Trump allowed the testing of the "Arrow-3" anti missile over The gulf of Alaska in July of 2019 [Jerusalem Post] , which was noted by N.Korea,China and Russia . Biden's action has allowed Iran to "spin-spin-spin" their uranium to weapons grade and he is responsible for Iran to "Break Out"when ever they wish to announce . Hopefully they will do so before the election so that Trump can point out how Biden has abandoned Israel.
You are right. Jews are right back where they always were. Everytime I talk to my friend I ask if her passport is up to date. I have dual citizenship and I'm selling my house. The proceeds will buy me something in Israel close to my daughter. These are peri.ous times.
I agree. I don't think Hamas will be destroyed. Gaza and Judea/Samaria will have to be policed by Israel endlessly because we don't have leaders and a citizenship (other than religious zionists) who want to kick the Pallies the hell out. Israel is in a constant state of INSECURITY because of its addiction to US support and to left-wing lunacy that's willing to trade land for peace even among those who want us destroyed. That doesn't sound like a place I'd feel secure in. Canada might not be that great for Jews right now but at least we have some politicians rooting for us and I haven't personally been denied any rights because I'm Jewish. Still, Josh's suggestions for preparation are good; worth following. I make sure to keep a nest egg in US dollars in case I have to flee from Canada. And I've already sold real estate that would keep me here.
Consider RFK Jr! He is a lifelong , committed Zionist who has been clearly and unconditionally pro-Israel in his public statements since Oct. 7. Independents are now more numerous than Democrats or Republicans.
RFK Jr also believes Sirhan Sirhan was innocent and recommended for his release from prison. He's also said he supports the "palestinians" and thinks they are innocent. They are not innocent; they are complicit with hamas. The population of Gaza IS hamas, there can be no separation.
We one hundred percent need to go back into suitcase mode. Make sure whatever you do own can easily be walked away from. I'm also going to point out that Argentina (though not without its problems) needs money and people who know how to create capital and they currently have a very friendly president. Since we can't all flee to the same place for obvious self-preservation reasons, Argentina should be high on the list on new Jewish emigration and capital infusion. They are also rich in natural resources which would be good for trade with Israel, and heavily Christian, which is a culture that would favor us more than hurt us at this time.
I don't disagree with any of this! Argentina (for all of its many faults) is one of the better of a bunch of bad options - there are very few countries remaining friendly to Jews, let alone openly supporting their Jewish populations or their public relationship with Israel, no matter how many of them are quietly and privately booking contracts with Israeli defense firms. Also, our collective investment could help stabilize the Argentinian economy in many ways. I just genuinely don't see good options, so doing my best to think practically. And to directly respond to Laura: I am in no way giving up on America (which I think of as my home and love deeply!) but I genuinely don't see the harm in being readier than our grandparents were in the 40s, so adopting a more flexible posture and beginning to build relationships and communities in places we haven't yet makes sense to me.
Other than its president, Argentina sucks. I think it's crazy to believe any third world or developing country is better for Jews while you and others here berate America, which I'm really getting tired of. Latin America is not Jew-friendly. America is also heavily Christian with a culture and population that is probably the most pro-Israel in the world. We do need to bar muslim immigration and other third world immigration, including from south of the border, both legal and illegal.
I tend to agree. South America has not traditionally been Jew friendly. Their countries are unstable and constantly getting taken over by one type of extremist or another.
The Jewish community is always better off in a country where, how imperfect it may be, the rule of law is observed, such as the Biden administration does. The system of law still functions in the USA , whatever Fox News may tell you.
Unfortunately, that is exactly what is at stake in the november elections.
Jamelle Bouie wrote in the NYT about a second Trump precedency: A “post-constitutional” moment that justifies the radical use of executive power to quash protesters with the military, the gutting of the federal civil service in favor of a spoils system for Trump loyalists and the seizing of the power of the purse from Congress."
In Germany, having some experience with the rule of thugs, the present Republican could simply not exist - 'Verboten'.
A ride in to the dark side of Trumpism is a one way drive in to the dead end alley of arbitrariness for the Jewish and other minority communities.
"rule of law is observed, such as the Biden administration does"
That would be DOJ memo to treat parents who complain at school board meetings as "domestic terrorists"?
Or the made up prosecutions of Trump based on legal theories never applied to anyone else? The day after Trump's civil trial Gov Hochul set a meeting with NY developers to assure them that legal theory would never apply to them. Can you name a single one of the 34 felonies Trump was convicted of? Because payments to keep quiet are legal in NY and mixing up legal expenses is a misdemeanor, not a felony. Don't feel too bad, the prosecutors couldn't either, so they didn't specify what felonies Trump was charged with until closing arguments, so the defense couldn't respond.
Or compare how a 75 year old woman goes to prison for two years for blocking an abortion clinic by praying but 100 pro Hamas demonstrators get off scott free intimidating a synagogue congregation in LA.
Some rule of law you've got there.
Do you really think you're fooling anyone with this crass, clumsy piece of Biden propaganda?
The American judicial system has its flaws, but it served the Republic well for over 200 years, as until recently Republicans and Democrats concurred.
The legal apparatus consists of all flavours of the political spectrum.
When mr. Trump was found guilty by a Jury of his peers unanymously - no doubt his lawyers included a few Republican voters in to this body - suddenly the whole legal system is rigged ?
That is exactly what I meant - undermining democratic institutions is part of the Republican plan. Not good for minorities (or anybody for that matter).
"When mr. Trump was found guilty by a Jury of his peers unanymously"
Nope, since the prosecutors didn't specify the felonies until closing argument, the judge gave the jurors a menu of three possible felonies and said they didn't have to agree on which one he committed; they could break 4-4-4 and he would still consider that a "unanimous" verdict.
That's what passes for proof beyond reasonable doubt in Biden's judicial system.
SCOTUS is undermining democratic norms and institutions more than any one entity—and Biden refuses to take any step at remedying that situation, in spite of commissioning a panel which offered a number of suggestions. Would they be hard to implement? Of course. But Biden isn’t even willing to try. Why is that? The dems like to run on the threat of SCOTUS taking away rights, which is also why they have no interest in doing anything about it. At this point, the strategy has failed, but Biden hasn’t changed his approach. He’s still running as someone who would correct this SCOTUS while simultaneously claiming he has no ability to do anything about SCOTUS. What a leader.
I saw the opposite of the rule of law on more than 50 campuses recently—all supported by anti-semitic professors and administrators funded with billions of dollars from pro-Islamic terror governments and organizations—and the Biden administration is ok with all of that “rule of law”.
I wish someone from the free press would address the " 2025 Agenda". The left is convinced it is bad for jews. The right won't say why Jews have nothing to fear. I'm confused and looking for an insightful explanation.
First, not sure where your information about Republicans shorting the Jewish population of the US comes from, but you’re just wrong.
More importantly (though everyone else does the same) you want someone in office who is better for those of Jewish heritage. Everyone claims that they strive for what is best for America … just my group first.
Everyone denies they pour fuel on the fires of identity politics, but play the identity card every friggon time.
Article hit right on many important but overlooked facts: Palestinian extremist Maher Bitar as Biden's Senior Director of Intelligence at the NSC, Emhoff's daughter's anti-Israel activities.
But the forest behind these trees: Republicans have become a strongly pro- Israel party. Reagan was the one who made Israel a non NATO strategic ally, meaning US arms sales were no longer limited to keeping parity with Arab countries. Bush senior was not pro Israel but his son, George W. Bush, was a good supporter.
Much of this comes from the (new, conservative) Republican party dependence on Christian Evangelicals.
You are basing this on a hypothetical scenario of the future and on the distant past as opposed to what we actually know in real time about the democrats. I'll take my chances with Trump and the GOP. Other than a few fringe nutjobs, all of those marching for hamas, harassing and attacking Jews are coming from the left and muslims. None of them are Trump supporters or Republicans.
I do admit to being concerned about Tiffany's Lebanese father-in-law, but all we can do is go by Trump's policies toward Israel in the 4 years of his presidency and those policies were pro-Israel. I don't think Trump will suddenly implement pro-hezbollah policies because his daughter married a man from a Lebanese family.
"But such Jews must be aware that the Republicans have a dark antisemitic past, and just because they are friendly to the Jews today (for their votes and political donations) does not mean that they will forever and always be"
Other than Israel, what other countries would be safer for Jews than America? Certainly not European countries where the situation is far worse for Jews. This advice is misguided and dangerous. At least in America there is a strong base of support for Israel and Jews that does not exist in any other country. If you were making the case for American Jews to go to Israel that would be one thing, but it's absurd to advise American Jews to apply for citizenship or visas in "other countries" which have far worse antisemitism problems.
He's not horrible for women's rights; he simply can't get enough of women. The striking down of Roe vs. Wade was not done because the Supreme Court was ruling on the legality of abortion; it was done because of the faulty jurisprudence that led to it in the first place. No one is going to outlaw abortion, not even the people who would like to do it - witness the voting on abortion every time it is put to the ballot in a state red or blue. One should not confuse Mr. Trump's vulgarity for Mr. Trump's policy. And please note the many competent and talented women who were given high positions in Mr. Trump's administration. Quite the difference with the slime of Mr. Biden's. Women's rights are a non-issue in this election. You can vote for Trump in peace.
I am a woman, & yes, this bothers me, but we are going in circles if we "yet, yet" with each candidate, who both have MANY flaws. Israel & the Jewish Diaspora are the highest & most precious & existential platform for ME (perhaps not you), so I am not going to get distracted by all the "yets." Medinat Yisrael & Am Yisrael are best served with Trump. Again, Biden is & will continue to be an insecticide upon us. We have to avoid insecticides at all costs. The life of our people depend on it.
Trump’s favorite child is an Orthodox Jew. His grandkids are Jewish. Trump moved the embassy to Jerusalem. He oversaw the Abraham accords. In the US he wanted to build a border wall. The greatest issue in this election is the invasion at our borders under Biden (or Obama 3.0). I highly doubt we would have seen Russia invade Ukraine and Oct 7 genocide had Trump been president.
I did not leave the Democratic Party. The Democratic Party left me…. Years ago.
I usually enjoy your insights and analysis but this time, I feel you truly played neutral trying to equate both parties being bad for Jews. Yes, I concur, we appreciate everyones support. Dont know where we would be without evangelical support.
Indeed they are (although I'm not).
Why fight anti-Semitism alone when such enormous numbers of non-Jews want to help too?
Agreed, we welcome and appreciate everyone that supports us and the evangelicals have remained constant in their support for good over evil.

That's a critical political alliance that is not easily replaced.
Trump's record on Israel is outstanding, made possible by the pro Israel wing of the Republican Party that first came to power with Reagan.
American Jews have one option: Trump 2024!
So what if that leaves people free to call a bearded person in a dress "Sir"?

"Check eligibility requirements for citizenship or long-term visas in other countries"
Yet not voting is not the answer either. We have to choose the lesser of two evils.
Correct, & Trump is the lesser evil. This Democrat is voting for Trump.
Yet he’s horrible for women’s rights.
Again I will not argue.
Marina, _Yet, yet, yet, yet....."
I will not argue with you because you clearly have your mind made up.
What rights have you lost under Trump?
The right to have an abortion, due to justices he appointed.
😂 Ok.
What a stupid reply.
Years ago.
This!! 💯
