If you would deny your own people the same right that you would fight for on behalf of others, well, that is an act of self-sabotage that is more of a you problem than an Israel problem.
I remember antisemitic incidents directed against me in the UK, when I was a young man in school and later working.
I personally crucified Christ. Jews have all the money (we came from a lower middle class family and were always penny pinching so....)
Jews control the media/the government/ the world...
"I can smell a Jew a mile away" - a comment made to me by a customer in a shop I was working in whose sense of smell apparently wasn't working just then.
So, in 1973, third day of the October war, I made Aliyah to Israel and can recall over the years having arguments with Jews from abroad who insisted that antisemitism is something of the past while I claimed that it will always be with us - even if hidden. Well, as present events show - it isn't. How I wish I had been wrong way back then.
But I wasn't and it has returned big time. The only hope is Israel, a strong Israel, a democratic Israel. Sure, it has its faults - but it is the only country in the world that will take the self-hating Jews in with open arms when the crunch comes - and it will.
No, you are wrong. As of now, open arms will also be provided by India, Asit has been so throughout history. Unles CIA and Communist China succeed in installing a pro Jihadist/Communist regime, and subvert our basic Hindu values.
And now the liberal Jews in America are supporting an anti Israel candidate for president. Just as they support the migrants from places that hate them, these liberals, fail to look out for their own self interests in the name of progressivism.
I saw a photo of Kamala and step daughter on instagram being praised for raising money for Gaza. Imagine if she’d been raising money for the children of the decimated kibbutzim instead!
An "anti-Israel candidate?" Complete BS propaganda. Which candidate invites Nazi's over for lunch? Which candidate refers to KKK hooded marchers shouting "Jews will not replace us" as "good people?" Which party has the nazi Paul Gossar? Which party has the anti-semite Marjorie Taylor Green? And Matt Gaetz? And Gorka? And Steve Bannon? Who are you kidding here?
I love the Abraham Accords and want to see more BUT Trump is unprincipled to say the least. You cannot trust him. He’s a sociopathic narcissist who wants to become a dictator. That’s not okay.
You need to get off msm. If you go back to exactly what many of these people actually said you will see that they have been misrepresented in the media. That's because the msm is pro blue team so you can't believe anything they write. Go back and see what the person actually said and then decide.
You have a very simplistic view of liberalism in the US. The majority of American Jews are liberals. And the majority of American Jewish liberals support Israel and are Zionist. So you don't know what the hell you're talking about. Choosing Trump over Harris is not choosing America. Trump is bad for America…we are Americans. If you are the type of American for whom Israel comes first over America then you should move to Israel. I love Israel I'm a Zionist and I'm an American. And for the benefit and future of America, Donald Trump is not good. And for the people who choose Donald Trump because he might be slightly better for Israel…then you just confirm 2,000 years of the dual loyalty trope that has been leveled against us by every culture we've been a part of. That may be okay for you wherever you are but it's not good for American Jews or Jews in general to be seen as disloyal to the country that they are living in. Donald Trump is a danger to American democracy. Kamala Harris will follow precedent that Israel is our ally and she said so yesterday in a press conference. She said Hamas must release all of the hostages and no ceasefire until the hostages are released. What more do you want? Just stop making a cartoon of American liberal Jews. Quite frankly the Jewish charitable organization coffers are filled by American liberal Jews. You don't give up your values suddenly, that you care about strangers, that you think that everybody should have health insurance, that you think that the wealthiest people should pay their fair share. You don't abandon your values just because one maniac, a well-known liar and convicted felon and rapist and pedophile says he likes Israel more. You can't believe a word this guy ever says. Anyway, nobody who shares my view ever steps into these conversations because everybody who follows this guy are all right wing Trump loving conservative Jews. Mistakenly believing that you have to be a conservative to love Israel. In my college I was a founding member of a Zionist organization at my school. And I was a liberal then and I'm a liberal now, I loved Israel then and I love Israel now, I was a Zionist then I'm a Zionist now. The far left progressives, Jewish or not, are idiots. And American liberal Jews know that they are idiots and want nothing to do with them. Anti Israel Jews are traitors, plain and simple. So please take these ridiculous opinions and put them under your kepa (a more polite way of saying what i really wanted to say).
Why are we surprised at the “self-hating Jew” phenomenon? Self-hating Americans abound in every socio-ethnic group of American citizens. The ones who “take a knee” when the US anthem is sung, burn the flag instead of saluting it – and, when they’re really partying – burn down American homes and businesses in the name of “social justice”. A self-hating American even tried to assassinate a former US president recently for reasons that haven’t yet been shared by investigators. But does it matter? Not really. Hating one’s own group or country is not unique to the Jews.
What I found interesting was Josh’s comment “…in liberal democracies, some Jews who are Ashkenazi (of European origin) or simply “white-looking” have tried to blend in as “White people,” with the privileges that so-called White people enjoy. By doing so, these Jews have made it exponentially harder to examine historical antisemitism or the ways in which antisemitism still plays out. Without this examination, there is a shroud of ignorance and invisibility around antisemitism.”
I agree. But you would have to research more than a Jew’s ability to pass as white. Where they choose to live is an important factor.
If you look white and want to pass it’s pretty easy. All you need do is not wear any clothing or jewelry that identifies you as Jewish and make sure there is no mezuzah on your door. My cousin, who lives alone in a largely non-Jewish Canadian neighborhood does this. The fact that he is tall, blond, blue-eyed and small-nosed makes his camouflage complete.
In private, he is passionately Jewish and Zionist. He attends shul with the Chabad (not regularly but more than just on the High Holidays). He and I have not discussed how we identify (or not) as Jews. It’s a sensitive subject. I don’t judge him for “hiding”. He likes his house and doesn’t want to sell it. He also wants to be safe and thinks (rightly or wrongly) that passing for white will keep him safe.
As for me, I’m also blond and can also pass if I want to. But I don’t want to. I wear a gold chai when I go out. My door has a Mezuzah. I put an electric menorah in my window at Hanukkah and, although I am not Orthodox my home is filled with Jewish art, books and trinkets.
Unlike my cousin, I live in a largely Jewish neighborhood in an apartment owned by Jews who decorate the lobby “Jewishly” during holidays. It also has a good security system, which includes more real-time webcams than the White House! Our community developed a good relationship with the police. In fact, a few years ago, our building's webcams helped police capture a gang of bicycle thieves!
Thank G-d, I don’t encounter much anti-Semitism in my neighborhood. When I do, I am emboldened to confront it immediately (in various ways).
Forty years ago, I lived in a non-Jewish neighborhood at a time when the word anti-Semitism rarely, if ever, came up. Nowadays, I believe there is strength in numbers for ALL Jews, whether you pass for white or not. We are not defenseless in the Diaspora if we stick together. BTW: I am proud to report that our Jewish community got a group of self-hating Jews called “Independent Jewish Voices” arrested along with non-Jewish anti-Israel protestors. Which sends the message: “Whoever you are, if you behave like an enemy of the Jewish people, you do so at your own risk.”
Maybe you should think of moving to a place where Jews have more political clout. That's what stands between us and the Jew-haters. Florida is good from what I hear.
Joshua is right in his astute assessment of anti-Israel Jews. Israel’s success makes them a target for the “correct” criticisms when it should be admired and emulated. And I agree, if these people think Gaza is so great, they should move there.
I recently reread I.B. Singer's The Manor and The Estate. It was written in 1902 and the same lesson is learned. It doesn't matter if you remain who you are, assimilate, convert you are still a Jew.
I think the post on Instagram tells us how these Jews for Palestine are so disconnected from the reality of the situation. But as you say, where were the protests for the real genocide that has been perpetrated in Syria, Nigeria, Iraq, and so on? Protesting Netanyahu does not change the dynamic of the war, similar to the Pro-Hamas protesters, whose protests have not made life better for the Palestinians. I'm curious to know the psychology behind anti-Israeli Jews, do they believe that what they're doing would help Gazans? Do they care that their protests can serve to hurt Israelis and Jews around the world? As the Instagram says, "You're still a Jew."
They could have demanded that the vile international organization, the Red Cross, fulfill at least part of its duties and visit (find out the condition of) the hostages in Gaza. These bastards did not try to do anything, not even to give vital medicine to the sick. They are lying creatures who have no moral right to speak and act on behalf of anyone. They are worse than the Jewish servants in the concentration camps, who did this under threat of death. These do everything voluntarily.
In the book of Jubilee, thousands of years ago we were called a "peculiar" people. It doesn't get more peculiar than working for your enemy. Nazis are Socialist Lefties, the Lefties work with the Hamasniks, and the Hamasniks worked with the Nazis. Who are the " Right" antisemites?
Years ago, the most vocal anti-Semitism came from whites who identified as Nazis or as righteous evangelical Christians. The media labelled them "right wing". Of course, there was a lot of quiet anti-Semitism going on with no mention of right or left. Jewish men had a hard time getting hired in a variety of professions and trades. Some hotels and restaurants wouldn't serve Jews. Many communities wouldn't sell homes to Jews. If you want to sense how anti-Semitism worked in the old days watch the film "Gentleman's Agreement" with Gregory Peck. My parents lived through that era and confirmed all of what the film portrayed. Today the most virulent anti-Semitism is clearly from the Islamo-supporting Left, who considers Jews oppressors. But Americans who identify as conservative can be anti-Semitic too, particularly if they hold strong "isolationist" beliefs and think the US is supplying weapons to Israel as charity. They are dead wrong. Israel pays for those weapons and gives the US a lot in return (too lengthy to get into here). But JD Vance is a savvy guy when it comes to foreign policy. Which is why he doesn't consider weapons to Israel "charity" but as part of a partnership with Israel to police the Middle East. Of course you will always hear stupid anti-Semitic tropes about Jews ruling the world or thinking that we are superior because we are G-d's "chosen people". (Actually, being chosen carries a big burden; no privileges!) But that isn't coming from the right. It comes mostly from hateful, resentful people who want to blame others for their misfortunes instead of taking responsibility for themselves. Nowadays that comes mostly from the Left, who promotes hate, divisiveness and "victimhood".
They not only gates it they hates it. Couldn’t resist sorry. BTW for my 2 cents let’s forget the niceties of antisemitism and call a spade a spade it’s Jew hatred just like the West Bank is Judea don’t minimise or intellectualise something as visceral as their hatred for us in all and any of our forms.
I am 99% Ashkenazi Jewish. I have family in Israel and have visited 10 times. I think Bibi is Jewish Trump. Both of them belong in prison and Bibi is extending this war to keep his sorry ass out of jail. I am also an American citizen. I would protest Bibi because I think he is a self serving fascist not to cheer for Hamas.
I also believe that it is imperative for Jews to live in the diaspora.
You should talk to people who support Netanyahu, to those who disagree with his decisions but support their Prime Minister, to those who believe that despite all his conclusions, mistakes and miscalculations, during a war he manages the country's political life better than many other politicians. And you probably only talk to those who hate him. A person who takes Israel seriously and understands that the time has come when the country's survival depends on any decisions will never throw around the words "Netanyahu is a criminal, his place is in prison" (maybe so, but who will decide?). These are the words of frivolous people who think emotions.
I remember antisemitic incidents directed against me in the UK, when I was a young man in school and later working.

I miss living in LA. Down in Irvine it’s a cesspool of pro terrorist supporting Jew haters.

These “Jews” are the Erev Rav - the mixed multitude of tag alongs that just wanted to get out of Egypt back in the day.
As the Torah so rightly says, “Your enemies will come from among you.”

Well said.
Hamas would certainly have treated all of these “as a Jew” Jews the same way as they treated everyone else on Oct 7: As a Jew!
Mutilated, burned alive and murdered. Never truer words.

And you support what Hamass terrorists did on 7/10 ?
Support the call for rivers to the sea , Palestine will be free ?
Demand Israel lay down arms and let Hamass rule whole this new Palestine ?
Nothing that Cathy said indicates that. I think you misunderstand.
She can decry bibi , compare him with trump !! Sound like typical woke lefti demrat .
But has nothing to say about genocide of 7/10 🤬🤬
She never said anything of the sort.
