While not mentioning the word, this fine essay alludes to one of the most pernicious, misused concepts which “Progressive” doctrine has forced upon us: “Equity.” (The “E” in “DEI.”) And Jews, along with other ethnic groups which are “over represented” in certain occupations, fields, businesses, etc., are among the most-victimized by this often-stealth attack on meritocracy. I’m gratified that there has finally been some effective backlash against this toxic, highly discriminatory practice.
Excellence and merit are anathema to lefties. Historically, as I understand it, Jews were kept out of many jobs over the centuries so they became physicians, lawyers, and financial/banker types to combat this discrimination and became vital parts of these fields. Equal opportunity has sometimes been replaced by equal representation. A lack of opportunity may show up in representation, but representation doesn't always show a lack of equal opportunity. Democracy is a form of government, the least worse of all, which may involve “ equal “ or “ proportionate representation”, but just about anywhere else, this “ proportional ” requirement seems to be a false category. How “ equally represented” is genius? How many Mozarts, Shakeapeares, Da Vincis, Newtons? You get my drift. It will always be a tiny group. The only thing you could do about the “equal representation” of genius is level the field by eliminating those qualified as geniuses. Or you can decide that a Gaussian curve is fraudulent, because at its “ fat tails” some extraordinary events occur that actually can make the most difference in the world, and that fact just doesn’t feel right. “The Black Swan” by Nassim Taleb was one of my favourite reads years ago. I often return to it. Its idea is “the extreme impact of rare and unpredictable outlier events—and the human tendency to find simplistic explanations for these events, retrospectively”. “ Fat tails”, “Gaussian curves” , geniuses and the excellent performance of any minority should be illegal, shouldn’t they, since they are “unfair”.
