What you say is so true! It is just so sad. Israel is a force for good in the world! I know that to be true because I have loved and spent time in Israel since I was a teenager. The media do not tell truth, they twist the truth to suit their false agenda. I simply can’t understand it. Israel is the buffer zone to the West and the Muslim world. The lies that circulate are truly evil. Israel will prevail!

Excellent, concise article. It defies understanding and proves one thing...Jews will never be acceptable to those dedicated to hating us. It doesn't matter how we live, raise our children, celebrate our holidays, worship our God, help our fellow citizens, write brilliant books & music, invent life saving equipment & new technologies, and how joyfully we embrace life. None of it matters to them. The realization of that should not deter us, rather it should embolden us to defy their hate with an even deeper commitment to each other and to live out loud.

Toda for this. I don;t always agree with your take on some things, but I appreciated this pieces and a name of others.

I’ve been having to deal with trolls expressing how educated they are because they have read Pappe, Finklestein, Naomi Klein et.al. Besides the obvious (that they are not only outliers/out-and-out-liars, exploitative, hypocrites with monumental egos in need of being seen as “disrupters” and alternative “thinkers”, perhaps you can help? Have your written about that crew? If not, please do … Toda.

Familiar with Finklestein. Ugh. It's some kind of mental illness, don't you think?

Agreed. But more than that, I think this article should be reprinted in the New York Times and other papers for a wider audience read.

Wonderful writing. What we are witnessing is the Marxist propaganda playbook (same one used by the DC Demonrats). Everything they say Israel and Jews are, isn't. Everything they say Israel and Jews aren't, they are. Right is wrong and wrong is right. Everything is upside down and inside out. If only the rest of the world would realize that it's all propaganda.

1) " In 1975, the UN General Assembly passed Resolution 3379 declaring Zionism — the belief that Jews deserve a homeland — to be a form of racism." How incredibly ridiculous when it was the UN that created Israel! 2) I recently finished Dara Horn's "Everyone Loves Dead Jews". Absolutely worth reading.

My only correction would be a line addition before this one... " After the Holocaust (which, it bears repeating, killed one-third of world Jewry), the surviving remnant dared to ask for a small slice of their ancient homeland"...

which would talk about the Jews who had remained in the land for generations and the earlier aliya in the late 1800's from Yemen and then from Russia and the creation of a functioning state before the Holocaust...

I have never been to Israel and I am not Jewish.

I started paying attention after 10/7 when I would express my shock and repulsion at the extreme sadism of the attack and my confusion and disgust with the celebrations that broke out all of North America and be met with silence. It's like otherwise thoughtful people have lost their minds and joined some perverse cult that paints a patriarchal death cult as righteous.

You don't need deep reasoning skills to see that Israel is a lone democracy in a sea of violent and corrupt regimes and it is one that punches way above it's weight in the quality of that democracy via its pluralism and it's discourse not to mention the country's astonishing innovations.

I just don't get it and the silence-to-condemnation of this extraordinary state from otherwise intelligent people disturbs and depresses me. I feel very isolated in my own community as a result and have tried talking rationally to people, but they just avoid me.

Thanks for this essay. It needs to be read far and wide.

Oscar nominated because the films are anti-Israel.

It’s a country of immigrants, dreamers, engineers, and poets who live under the shadow of existential threats and still manage to produce Oscar-nominated films and really good falafel.

My couple of visits to Israel - both on my own were filled with adventure and fun. A beautiful country - just remember to answer when a barista yells 'Ken' at you !

Great! My usual nebbishdichy trite suggestions: a) "small slice of their ancient homeland" - underline or BOLD "their ancient homeland"; b) "West Bank" add - (properly and historically known as the ancient Jewish lands of Judea & Samaria) - or any version that includes "Judea & Samaria"; c) "own press is often its harshest critic" - "harshest, worst, most biased anti-Israel and anti-Semitic critic".

Brilliant, concise and totally correct. It’s such a shame that if an anti semitic actually took the time to read this and research the facts they would probably just ignore it. They have become so warped in their thinking and outlook it will take eons to change their minds. That’s ok though because us Jews are going absolutely nowhere!!
