"Naturally, critics will condemn Gazan resettlement. But nothing Israel does will gain their approval." That is it right there. NOTHING Israel does will ever be met with approval, even when they finally save the world from a nuclear Iran--they'll still shit on Israel.

The two points I was going to make! And Israel should do something re Iran sooner rather than later.

I agree, but I think the plan is to really tamp down the Houthis before going back into Iran because the Houthis have a lot of firepower and it's Iran's last proxy that can pose a big threat. Trump is pounding the Houthis every day and I think this is all in preparation for the Iran attack. However, if Trump can get the Ayatollahs to resign peacefully (once they realize they have nothing left but the death of them all) and lay down their arms, it would be the best solution. But they are religious nutjobs who want to be martyrs, so I think force will be necessary.

Excellent points, all. I particularly want to see the threat of nuclear power go, as well as a new regime in Iran. What a catastrophe. I was attending U of Texas, Austin 1974 - 1977 and the Iranian students were demonstrating continually against the Shah (faces covered for fear of what might happen to their relatives back home). So sad how it all played out. The ayatollahs are far worse.

It will never change the narrative. It’s not about them or what they’ve done—it will always be about us and what we do.

As for Gaza and the idea of a remarkable change, that too is far-fetched. Do we shower and then put on dirty clothes? What about Gaza will cure them of the mind virus that drives them to seek our destruction?

Have you thought about getting your information from a more reliable source than the pseudo-intellectual and dense Aamerican Pravda, which writes with unselfconscious seriousness that Israel was behind the Kennedy assassination, and other dense nonsense.

Well written and the sad reality. Things will not change until a significant majority of people living around Israel want a paradigm change. Enough Arabs must WANT to coexist and cooperate with Israelis to allow for change that will be beneficial to all living in the Middle East. Can you imagine if less money was spent on armies and weapons and more on housing, schools and hospitals. And that means schools that did not teach hatred, but math, language, history.

From the perspectives of Israel's adversaries, this is a religious war. Prospects of benefits in this world won't cut it, compared to instant heaven and 72 virgins. One of the serious mistakes that the Israelis made was to assume that increased economic prosperity, housing, schools, etc. would moderate the Islamists. Do you have any idea what they teach in their "schools"? Gazans are raised to believe that the greatest good in the world is to kill Jews!

I’m so sick of this. After October 7, 2023 I began to read the Quran. I did this to try and understand what I was seeing in the world around me. I was taken by surprise by the level of Jew hatred in the world and had grown up in a Christian society, Jewish, I felt accepted and comfortable. So in my journey so far with Islamic theology I conclude Islam is a death cult masquerading as a religion. For the peace of the world Islam must change. I lived through Vatican II and actually thought things had gotten better as a consequence of the pope’s rejection of deicide and supercession. I’m old and terrified as I was as a child when I had to physically fight for my life because I was Jewish, I was nearly killed and I nearly killed a neighbor over “let’s go fly a kike and it’s you”. I can’t believe how naive I was thinking the world had changed.

Recent polls show about half of Gaza's population wants to leave, which is encouraging.

It helps to look at the example of Mexico: without any violence, but spurred by better economic opportunities elsewhere, millions of Mexicans have voluntarily left their native land to settle in the United States.

After Oct 7, the sensible approach is to prevent any reconstruction of Gaza so that for the locals, the gap in economic conditions between Gaza and Congo or Somaliland will spur them to leave voluntarily.

Why would Gazans come to the US (land of white supremacism and Jewish power, remember?) when Congo and Somaliland beckon?

‘Ethnic cleansing’ is a punitive label to be tossed around at the aging hollow UN. Period. I personally first read it used in the Bosnian/Serbian war which was at the least, Islam moving in on someone else’s land. They did not, do not, belong. The Trumpian paradigm shift is so bottom line that ignoring all the labels and falsehoods and militarily getting rid of the hate filled murderous neighbors is the only course. To Life!

Given the necessity of having peaceful neighbors, and the fact that Israel will never forcibly remove Gazans from Gaza, maybe the question is WHO would be able to move the Gazans and not be subject to universal rebuke.... SUGGESTION: Put the Saudi's in charge. They are the only ones ruthless enough to not only effectuate a program that would eventually temper them, but would be able to head a group of Abraham Accord countries to recapitalize and rebuild the area. I wonder how many times one must repeat oneself before anybody notices. Israel and Israel alone should determine the future of Gaza, as it must do for Judea and Samaria. The solution: declare Jewish sovereignty over the three areas, flood it with Jews, place the Muslims there under a civil-military governing body that closes all mosques, educates Arab children in Hebrew with Israeli textbooks, closes down all international aid, has the Muslims work for a living, denies them any voting rights, and punishes any public disturbance severely. Of course, Muslims will be allowed to leave whenever they want. In fifty years, if the Muslims behave, they can run their municipal services.

Why is it so difficult to get a paradigm shift? The reason is clear: The necessity of annihilating Jews is specified in the Qoran and in Islamic Law. It is entirely legitimate, even obligatory, for Muslims to treat non-Muslims as inferior and subordinate. Infidels may be killed, enslaved (sex slaves being very popular), kidnapped for ransom, or released. Christians and Jews, as "people of the book," may be spared, if they pay the jizya tax and accept dhimma status as inferior and subordinate. The problem with Israeli Jews is that they are not obedient to Islamic law, and thus are deemed legitimate targets for Islamic revenge through torture, murder, rape, arson, and kidnapping. It is no accident that a number of the genocidal groups mentioned in this article, e.g. ISIS, are Muslim. For Hamas and Hezbollah there are other motives for revenge as well. In Islamic law, land once controlled by Muslims remain Muslim forever. Muslims conquered Jerusalem in the 7th century, and so it goes against Muslim law for Jews to occupy the land and be self governing and autonomous. Finally, Jews for 1500 years were viewed by Muslims as the lowest of the low. But from 1948 to today Israelis beat Arabs militarily multiple times against great odds. To Arabs, who view themselves as warriors--they did, after all, once conquer half the world--defeat at the hands of the Jews is shameful and a stain on their honour. They believe that the only way to cleanse that stain and remove the shame is to defeat the Israeli Jews.

A new paradigm for Gaza? Try this, after fair warning, carpet bomb Gaza until there are no buildings, no infrastructure (there wasn't any anyway). The bulk of the population will have either fled or died because they didn't. The remaining will sneak into whatever countries they can. End of Gaza terrorists. The land-- let it sit as a reminder for a few decades.

Cut off all water, power, food, and electricity. Open up the Shalom border and sell one way tickets to some far away Arab country to whoever shows up at the border crossing. Gaza is rubble now and will be completely unlivable in a relatively short period of time. Maintain a military presence within Gaza and deal with any Hamas activity aggressively. Pretty soon you'll have no one left in Gaza and you can then proceed to bulldoze the entire strip and annex it to Israel.

The single biggest problem that I see is that reconstruction is not realistic given the destruction without resettlement. It is not ethnic cleansing. As you point out, "ethnic cleansing" like "genocide" has been misapproriated and misused for politicial propoganda purposes. NO ARAB NEIGHBOR WILL EVER RESETTLE THE GAZANS, PERMANENTLY OR TEMPORARILYWITHIN THEIR OWN BORDERS, AND WITH GOOD REASON. Historically, Hamas and its affiliates and offshoots have been expelled from every country in the ME they have touched, Eygpt, Jordan, and all the rest. Egpt threw out the Muslim Brotherhood, Jordan threw out the PLO for trying to overthrow the monarchy. These groups have been nothing but sow division, political unrest, and trouble wherever they go and whatever they touch. And there is nothing to indicated the the PLA is any different, it is merely one more shapeshifter of its predecessor groups. That is also the reason they have never been absorbed as citizens in these other countries and so for 75 years they have been able to sidestep the issue and blame Israel. The answer should be that their neighbors absorb them as Israel absorbed 800,000 Jews who were "ethnically cleansed" and summarily thrown out of every ME nation in which they had lived for thousands of years prior to 1948, and whose synagogues and schools were erased. That is ethnic cleansing - something that has absolutely NOT been done by Israel to anyone else. Rather, Israel is a plurality that has embraced and protected the rights of all of those living in its borders, including Israeli Arabs, Druze, Christians, Muslims, LGBTQ and other citizens. The remainder of the Arab world needs to step up to the plate, bring these people into the folds of their borders, deradicalize them by also deradicalizing their own rhetoric, and sign the Abraham Accords. The Gaza Strip can only continue to exist without Hamas or the PLO or some other iteration. It needs perhaps control by a group of the more moderate and front thinking Arab nations, or better yet, put it back under Egyptian control which is where it was when it was under the control of the All-Palestine Protectorate, an Eygptian client-state created by the Arab nations in 1948 at the same time Israel was created. My guess, Egypt will oppose this idea, as will all the other Ara nations who do not want these groups, and have never wanted these groups. Long overdue to put the problem of a workable and durable solution on those who for 75 years have chosen to look the other way and shift the blame. Make them citiziens of the Arab nations who are their benefactors - Jordan, Egypt, etc. Give them citizenship, passports, rights and the consequent obligations of citizenship, as Israel has done for its refugees who were expelled from home countries. Its time for reality, not pipe dreams.

Another alternative - send them all to Iran, their financier and benefactor.
