These bombings were not popular in the West, and indeed Israel was very heavily supported during the 1960s through to the 1980s. A popular pastime of British students then was to spend summer breaks on a kibbutz, whereas now you'll find them marching against Israel in street demos.

That change has come about. There has always been fringe support for the Palestinians... but it was just that, an extreme fringe, and these bombings did cause outrage years ago. But we're talking 20-40 years ago... and that fringe in support of the Palestinians has grown, mainly with the advent of social media and Al-Jazeera's birth not long after the milennium.

But I suppose it's so long ago that it's hard to remember that swing in support from the left-wing from pro-Israel to anti-Israel.

But one encouraging statistic recently. Despite the street demos in London, sometimes a 100,000 strong - which might give the impression that most Brits were Palestinian supporters - polls of the mainsteram gave a different story. On a Sky TV poll, 64% said they were against the demos and on GB news it was 71% against.

Golda’s quip sums it up.

Excellently articulated...

I would also stress the toxic antisemitic curriculum that is promulgated by UNWRA in their schools in Gaza and in the PA territory... produced by the PA and finally subject to investigation by EU donors...

So there is no longer a AI to monitor FB? On most any post that is sympathetic to Israel, I find that if I scroll the comments, there is a stream of invective and accusations....of "how do you feel about the 17K incinerated Palestinian children" and various "stolen land" and go back to where you came from, comment. Or course, some names are Arab, some South Asian, many are European names , Finnish, Swedish, and those Gaelic/Irish rendered names that we usually encounter in Anglicized forms. Rachel Corrie the martyr of the woke left...a director asks for information about staging this propaganda play....Corrie was with total indifference to her safety by a pro terror organization of the far left placed in a WAR ZONE in which she lost her life...much as Arab children are instructed to throw lethal stones and otherwise put themselves in dangerous situations as in the border of Gaza/ Israel. Now the asajews , "rabbis" and many celebrities virtue signal over the so called Trump/Netanyahu planned ethnic cleansing. No group of 300 plus imams and celebrities have voice contrition and outrage over Oct. 7th of '23. NOR will they ever do so. It's not in fashion any more to celebrate Israel and its achievements. Instead it's not ethnic cleansing of Jews....it's "go back where you came from" or Juden Raus. Without SHAME the left like to shriek at anyone who dares to counter the leftist racists.

Thank you for this history !

How helpful it could be for peaceful coexistence for brave journalists to constantly expose this. There are similarities to the child soldiers in Africa, who are kidnapped, brainwashed and taught to kill. Thanks, John Matthews!

"the usually moderate Palestinian Authority president, Mahmoud Abbas, lending his support: 'We welcome every drop of blood spilled in Jerusalem. This is pure blood, clean blood, blood on its way to Allah. With the help of Allah, every martyr will be in heaven, and every wounded will get his reward.'"

If this is the voice of a moderate, we hate to see what a voice of an "extremist" is. Intifada Jihad is not an extremist ideology. Because it is is based solely on the Koran and Hadiths, it is the Pious, the Devout, the True Believers who obey what their sacred texts tell them to do to fulfill their religious duty.

"how and why did this use of young people and teens as a useful and valued spearhead take root in Palestinian society?

To get the answer to this, you have to go back over 40 years"

Actually, a little further back, to 610 CE when Mohammed started writing the Koran via his Jewish scribe. Nu veden).

"In the current Gaza war, there is not enough newsreel footage to determine how much young people feature on the front line"

There was universal moral condemnation when it was discovered that various militias in Africa and Asia put child soldiers on the front lines. When Hamas uses the same tactics, there is no cry of outrage. Why? The difference here is that child soldiers are only killing Jews, so if not A Very Good Thing, at the least No Big Deal.

"cover for their main militants "

Subscribes and thus adds tacit Jewish approval to the Western media willfully misrepresenting terrorists as merely militants. Terrorists are those who kill innocent civilians — men, women, children, and the aged — with the sole intent to strike fear into a populace thus demoralizing them so that they no longer support their government. Militants, on the other hand, are armed men who seek armed conflict to promote a political cause.

Has anyone ever tried fighting inhumanity with inhumanity?

As aberrant and abhorrent as it would be, why haven’t the Israelis - indeed the entire right-thinking world - ever considered ’leaning-into’ the Hamas-Intifada child fodder / martyrdom paradigm? All ya gotta do is say: “You want your child to be a martyr? We’re happy to oblige. Thank us later. Be glad we’re not asking you to reimburse us for the bullet.”

Not that the Israelis wouldn’t move heaven, earth and populations to avoid making martyrs - hard as that avoidance is. After all, do Israelis like Islamists enough to give them that much satisfaction by taking the easy route?

Wanna know the secret irony? Israelis also believe that every IDF warrior - whether dead, wounded or in primo survivor shape - has earned a front row seat in heaven for eternity. The difference is that the Jews believe you don’t have give up your life, but rather enjoy a full, wonderful life with loving partners, prodigy, family and friends long before they cash in the celestial IOU that are every veteran’s reward.

In a macabre way, leaning-in takes on a bubble-bursting veneer, sorta like exposing Santa or the tooth fairy. It may enable confronting and learning a painful truth that is part of most everyone else’s growing up.

Unfortunately, that is already happening during this war. According to Haretz and the Times of Israel, some Israelites have used Arabs as human shields, shot Palestinians in safe areas, raped Palestinian prisoners, and given the IDF a bad name.

It provides Hamas with more ammunition and sullies Israel's reputation. We can't afford this. It harms who we are as people. We are a holy people- designed to bring peace to the world.

We don't get there by becoming what we despise.

Sam Harris actually commented on this a while back, saying that Hamas often use children and women as human shields, which often works and stops the IDF firing. So of course you are going to get some of the same in reverse.

But if you then get an Israeli hiding behind an Israeli child, there would suddenly be no deterrant because the aim of Hamas is to kill every Israeli, including children. So with Harris giving this example, you suddenly saw the difference.

The rape though and killing of innocents in safe areas is indefensible.

I don't recall international outrage after these mass slaughters of Israeli kids. I certainly don't recall any alienation from the "palestinian" cause. In fact, the worse the "palestinian" atrocities against Israel, the more popular their cause around the world.

.....................................................................................................................................................................................

"Particular horror was attached to the number of children killed, with one bombing at the Dolphinarium Disco in Tel Aviv specifically targeting young teens; of the 22 killed, the youngest were 13 and 14. These bombings caused outrage in Israel and internationally, alienating many to the Palestinian cause, and shortly after the dividing security wall was built".
