Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of battles in this PR war have been lost by the good guys. This counts as a minor win but in the scheme of things, the so called "innocent silent majority" remains silent. I marched for Civil Rights, Gay Rights and Women's Lib but dont see too many of my so called brothers and sisters marching for me (the Jewish people and Israel). Glad that you experienced resounding support but it certainly is not what generally has been happening. papa j

The fact that this cretin thought they could get away with such ugly, racist behavior tells us that we are still losing the war. I agree that we are losing because of the apathy, cowardice and/or ignorance of that “silent majority.” October 7 woke way too few.

David, you are spot on. Just want to add that we are also such terribly easy prey. Unlike our Israeli brothers and sisters we dont know how to fight. We are great at talking, debating but when it comes to kicking ass, we just cant take care of ourselves. We dont have a Jewish Defense League, we have nothing but large organizations asking for donations. If I had the power, every Jewish school would teach sefl defense as a required subject to graduate. We have to stop relying on others to take care of ourselves. papa j

I was at an event for Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry in the 70's. At it they had an unusual presentation - a Soviet produced documentary of the murders at Babi Yar. It was unusual in that it actual gave a historical account of the Jews being singled out for extermination. This was unusual because for the decades following WWII, the official Soviet history was that all Soviet citizens, regardless of ethnicity, were victims of fascism nothing special about the Jews.

However, at the end of the documentary, narrated in English, the narrator called for an end to "fascism, anti-Semitism, racism, Zionism, and all discriminatory ideologies."

The idea of Zionism being racist is old Soviet propaganda (as, indeed, is the idea of a unique Palestinian nation). It was swallowed hook, line, and sinker by the left wing students of the day. These students have now grown up and , long after the disappearance of the Soviet Union, are teaching these Soviet ideologies - for some perverse reason labeled "progressive" - to a new generation of students, from grade school to graduate school. It is this non-critical indoctrination that Zionism is racism is what leads to this knee-jerk reaction to those of us who proudly identify as Zionists and who understand what Zionism (in its many forms) is.

I seriously doubt the bookstore employee could even produce an accurate definition of “Zionist” or “Zionism” For the hardcore haters, facts and history don’t matter, but for the gullible useful idiots who mistakenly think they are identifying, exposing, and isolating “bad guys,” facts and history can still make a difference. Should we have to keep explaining and defending ourselves? No, we shouldn’t, but we need to—even to some of our fellow Jews. There is nothing racist, oppressive, or wrong about defending one’s right to live free in one’s own indigenous homeland and to defend ourselves against those who come for our blood. The haters have turned our true history upside down. We must be relentless at exposing their false narrative and the centuries of ingrained religious and ideological hate they have for us and with which they are trying desperately to infect others.

I agree with you ....speaking of narratives...they embrace the "Palestine" one ....their professors of MId East and even some in Jewish studies confirm this for them.

It's pitiful that you can't even go to a bookstore and chat with friends over a cup of coffee (our bookstores usually have coffee shops next door or even inside) without some self-righteous snowflake getting his/her underwear worked up into a wedgie. At least no one (yet) painted a yellow Magen David onto the storefront. What I do not understand Andy, is why you did not pull down that sign and have your debate after all? Seems to me that if the store owner truly acknowledged that his/her employee was wrong, your event could have gone forward.

Censorship from a bookseller (employee).

Staggering

I'm delighted they are now looking fir new employment.

To think you can just cancel someone like that is disgusting.

What is far more disgusting, is that ‘the Blob’ will pick up the story and twist it to further feed the fires of the Satanic lie that, ‘The Jews control everything!’

This may not be the correct forum to pose this question (one which I have thought about a great deal). If the West is so evil, so corrupt and vile ... why, why did they come here? I know why my maternal grandparents did (they also raised me); I learned about turn of the past century Life in Lithuania on an almost daily schedule. But with each day, she blessed America convinced she made the right decision to seek a life, a husband and family in this country and would be appalled at the lack of respect and dangerous rhetoric ... from other Jews!!!. I am almost 86, thereby ineligible for "woke-ness" and have spent the majority of my existence reading and chasing information. Would appreciate any edification on this :)

I phoned the bookstore thanking them for their swift action after learning that the employee was fired.. So, it concerns me that a wave of hostiliity (oy, even ,MORE hostility) has developed. The anti-Semitic worker is no longer there. It seems to me that the store reacted favorably. At a time filled to capacity with rage, let's try to make amends.

I was never a Zionist until the FILTH mobilised.

Like many Jews on the left, I didn't identify as Jewish. The FILTH have propelled me from hard left to hard right.

My friends of more than fifty years cancelled me. I now know who I am.

That is someone who would be entirely content for Israel to vapourise ALL of the FILTH. The sooner the better. Hasn't 75 years taught them anything?

They would be no more the pariah state they are called if they simultaneously detonated half their nuclear arsenal over the FILTH than pussyfooting around the way they do.

It's long past time to get on with it. No shilly shallying about. No half measures. Vapourise the fucking lot of them.

as fifty years ago on my ultra liberal SUNY campus the half campus Jewihs.....all the leftist Jews barely acknowledged being of Jewish background. The campus Communist student president had an epiphany and become a black clothing observant Jew. The rest wnt to Cuba to cut sugar cane. I had to be a closet Zionist. Even my Israel bank calendar was mocked as my "Zionist calendar." I had to come out in some small way.

Unfortunately I have trouble with this piece. While I am glad that you got so much support after this event, I wish your eyes would be a little bit more open to what this event means for young Zionist writers and artists. If an event with a major, well-known antizionist Jew’s book can be canceled bc the moderator is a Zionist, imagine what it is like for writers who are themselves Zionists. As someone who has been frequently told by bookstores and publications that Zionists need not apply, I have quite a different perspective on what this event means.

I haven't seen Josh's book nor will I buy it...based on what I believe to be his premise about Israel's war against its extermination. There is a subset of ultra liberal Jews....and I'm stil officially a Dem not so called MAGA....who cannot abide that Israel in pursuit of its enemies has to take actions in which civliian gazans die.....and that it is Hamas policy that they should die either these Jews don't get or dismiss.....Israel is the most moral of armies. hamas the most deranged and depraved. So this bookstore is making Zionism like MAGA synonymous with racist and white supremacism....I can be pretty cynical at my age. I 've gone through every movement, every war, every crisis, and I am sick at heart and very angry that from the NY Times to the Columbia campus Israel is the "bad guy"
