Britain, France, and Canada are no longer world powers. They are just countries.

I agree. But it all ignores the soon-coming Gog/Magog attack in Ezekiel, the final week of years from Daniel, and the last three chapters of Zechariah. It is very likely that these will come to pass in the next decade. G-d has told us what He is going to do. The world has not a clue.

The problem is with these Religious schemes is they can be used by Malicious actors to create false actions against the holders of these Beliefs. G-d may not actually exist, and therefore not ‘Save Israel’ when wrong and catastrophic moves are made to ‘Fulfill prophesy’. False Leaders and Manchurian Candidates have been used against many Civilisations by Colonialists, and we have heard European Nazi elements in Six planning the same. I repeat, G-d may not actually exist.

The Objective Reality and the study of the Wars of History indicate that the reality of an All Powerful G-d is unlikely. But I am open minded. Best Wishes.

Very nice, Bob. It seems to me, an American Jew, that Israel's main problem is relying too much on the fickle US government. Whether it is the gelt or the tools of war, Israel must learn to say no thank you, we don't need your help. Most American Jews will support Israel. Israel must find new sources of weaponry, or manufacture their needs in house. When you are reliant on another country for your needs, you have given away your sovereignty and autonomy. I have no doubt that Israel would have eventually devised a way to destroy Iran's nuclear facilities without calling in the favor of America's big bunker busters. Stand on your own Israel, fight your own wars. I know you can.

You’re right, and Israel continues to work towards that goal. All the more reason for we American Jews, with our substantial resources, to assist by donating generously to worthy, efficient organizations such as JNF-USA; Friends of the IDF; MDA; etc. Thus allowing the Israeli government to be able to increase its resources for defensive military purposes.

Trust God and pass the ammunition! Keep going, Israel, and don't depend on any other human being, not even Donald Trump. Put your trust in Almighty God, and make sure you're right with Him.

"the same diplomatic bait-and-switch that has followed every Israeli victory since 1948: Let Israel fight, then demand it surrender the spoils."

As a famous observation goes, "Israel is the only country in the world to win a war and lose the peace."

"The dream of a Palestinian state is not a dream of peace. It is a dream of Iranian forward deployment, of missiles in Samaria, of drones over Ben Gurion Airport. No fence or Iron Dome can neutralize that."

The dream of a Palestinian state is the dream to create a terror state on Israel's borders to effectively destroy the state once and for all and to annihilate its kufars.

Thank you for this essay, Bob, which I've now re-read twice. Each read produced differing thoughts and considerations, many of which have roots in Ambassador Michael Oren's "2048". Israel's 2nd century is becoming more tangible. This is, in part, due to awareness that on a REGIONAL SCALE, Israel's IDF/IAF/INF have demonstrated IN REAL TIME what the United States and NATO have only SIMULATED on a GLOBAL SCALE. My observation is that the words and demeanors of the US Joint Chiefs and US CENTCOM Leadership convey appreciation of the learnings Israel's IDF/IAF/INF have provided through 22June2025. In 2025, nuclear-armed democracies (US, NATO allies, and India) have witnessed twice how 2 nuclear states can engage militarily and confine their attacks to use of only conventional ordnance. In both instances, neither Russia nor China have intervened, despite (since the 1950s) US and European media and politicians unequivocally promising the inevitability of global nuclear warfare when 2 nuclear powers engage. The fallacy of this "inevitability" is now clarified by the Pakistan-India conflict and Iran-Israel conflict. In a regional war between nuclear states, prosecution of conventional-weapons-only warfare is preferable and unstated for the two nuclear states. Just as the US, NATO, Israel, and India value their democracies and their homelands, there is concrete evidence that Russia, China, and Pakistan are of similar minds. Moving away from these darker considerations, in the aftermath of the Israel-Iran conflict and the Pakistan-India conflict, independently, the United States, NATO, Israel, and India are striving to fund and complete "2025 Manhattan Projects" demonstrating integrated defensive capacities (with >95% reliability) of (i) in-atmosphere hypersonic and non-hypersonic missiles interception, PLUS (ii) space-based, directionality-controlled high-energy laser and neutron sources, PLUS (iii) directionality-controlled EMP devices, PLUS (iv) <to be determined> other defensive technologies. The State of Israel has demonstrated it is indeed feasible to move beyond reliance upon external partnerships--that is moving beyond the France-Israel post-Suez Crisis scientific and technical collaboration to initiate Israel's nuclear capabilities; sustaining Israel's solo expansion of strategic and tactical nuclear weapons arsenal (1966 to 2023); eventuating in IDF/IAF/INF/Mossad prosecution of a 7-front war 07Oct2023-21June2025. Israel's Armed Services are robust due to Israel's (i) conventional weapons arsenal, (ii) strategic and tactical nuclear arsenal, (iii) "domes" technological advancements, and (iv) unlimited heroism and commitment to survival of the Jewish People. Thank you for helping your readers understan that, indeed, Israel is a regional and global power. Full Stop!

I must disagree with the author. Israel is the 51st state of the US and will for the foreseeable future be subject to a veto by the incumbent American president.

With Power comes equally Enormous Responsibility. Khameni is utterly corrupted by power. He cloaks this to his people and more dangerously to himself. Don’t take that Religious route. Israel you are vulnerable to the same.

Israel's number one responsibility is the survival of Israel and the Jewish people. First and foremost. They are very busy living up to that, lately.

Exactly. Stick to survival as the reason to exercise the more cautious type of power, rather than Religious Authority.

Interesting comment, yours. Religion is part and parcel of what makes Israel the country we know. Yes, there are secular Jews there but the country was founded on the Jewish faith as the basic building block.
