Isn't Hezbollah and its 40000 missiles (conservative estimation) actually an insurance-policy for Iran in case of an Israeli first-strike ?

There really is not much to gain for these ruffians in a direct conflict with Israel, on the contrary!

Tempting to eradicate the next dangerous and unpredictable neighbour, but I think the Israeli cabinet made the right decision.

Is it true that actually, Hezbollah is not a terrorist organization but a part of Lebanon's official military? And this classification, according to international law - amounts to Lebanon declaring war on Israel and justifies us attacking Lebanon directly; not just Hezbollah militants and their weapon stores. Please check this out because I heard it from a former Mossad director at a Zoom event hosted by Hebrew University a few months ago. Cannot remember the director's name. If this is true, why not just attack Lebanon directly, using cyber methods I'm pretty sure that Israel has access to. This would allow us to destroy a significant part of Lebanon's infrastructure without risking IDF lives; giving Lebanon a bloody nose and a deterrent to attacking us. (I heard the last war with Israel nearly bankrupted Lebanon.) Any thoughts?

Hezbollah has an abnormal relationship with the Lebanese government and, because it is a terrorist organization, uses this leverage of a threat over people’s lives (Lebanese officials for example) to get what they want and how they want it in Lebanon, politically and geographically as well.

Abnormal relationship. What does that mean? If the Lebanese government disavows Hezbolla and really does not control them, fine. If not, it just seems like an excuse for the Lebanese government to attack Israel without claiming responsibility.

Not that simple. Hezbollah has tremendous infrastructure and it would lead to a civil war which, judging by the civil war in neighboring Syria, the Lebanese people and even government do not want. So “easier” to appease Hezbollah than deal with the issue.

Thanks for the update and clarification of what is going on in the north. May all good decisions pay off for Israel and, eventually, for the displaced northern residents. “Soon” would be even better.

"At present all we can do is look down at our feet in embarrassment." writes Lord Carlile here in The UK.

Well, Lord Carlile, I tell you that the people who matter in The West fully support Israel for however long it takes as she roots out Hamas completely.

The Militaries in the West knew well that this War with Jihadist Islam was coming when they supported Israel's formation in 1948. They knew that the threat from Nationalist Islam was coming from Arabs and Persians who were going to attack The West, with both Armies and Terrorists, to challenge Western Civilisation from the 1950's onwards.

This is the war cycle we are in now.

The Middle East is wracked with Islamist Militias, exactly at Western Military planners had predicted. Many of these Genocidal Militias are supported by Nazi Ideology, both in the Arab World and by Nazi cranks in the West. We have monitored both of these things

Enough of the Liberal Hand-wringing and the posturing of Embarrassment, from closet Anti-Semites here in The West.

Israel is now doing the job. Civilian casualties are a sad but inevitable consequence of the Hated Hamas which has inveigled itself amongst civilians. But the Military personnel in the West have not wavered in support of Israel.

Because they know that Hamas, and Jihadist Islam and its Basiji Militias, and States like Iran , are so much worse of a mortal threat to The West.
