Trump as always deserves a huge amount of credit for thinking out of the box in approaching conventional wisdom that has failed in its application to the facts on the ground

Trump as always deserves credit for thinking like an opportunistic grifter, who clearly has no ideas beyond those beneficial to Donald Trump. Yes, habitually disregarding laws and ethical norms is unconventional, by definition. No, spewing a torrent of objective lies every time he opens his mouth is not a commitment to "the facts in the ground." Are you really this unserious?

The plan makes the mistaken assumption that Gazans think like westerners. That is, prosperity and a higher standard of living will result in peace and harmony. Though I am sure they would rather be prosperous than poor, no amount of material wealth will override their desire to destroy Israel and establish an Islamic state.

That’s my thought too. I used to think if Palestinians had an economic future to look forward to instead of being robbed by the PA, they would not care about politics and would focus on living the dream. I changed my mind about that even before 10:7. Their dream is a Jew free Palestine from the river to the sea. They need to become real people, not rabid terrorists. Then we can talk.

You are correct. This was the mistaken premise of the Oslo accords. However while the Gazans will take Jew murder over prosperity it may be that they have reached the point where they are no longer interested in being literal cannon fodder for Hamas' losing war.

A good article as far as it goes, but it is missing a few significant details.

"many Gazans have Egyptian surnames that trace back to regions in Egypt . . . . names, along with oral family histories, reinforce the reality that much of Gaza’s population is not indigenous to the land but rather the descendants of Egyptian migrants."

Not to mention that Arafat himself was born in Cairo.

"[The Gazan population's deep historical ties to Egypt] complicates the broader Israeli-Palestinian conflict, raising questions about why Egypt, which borders Gaza, has largely refused to integrate or take responsibility for a population that shares deep historical, familial, and cultural ties with its own people."

Could the answer possibly be because Hamas and Islamic Jihad are intimately connected to the Moslem Brotherhood, a violent organization dedicated to the overthrow of the Egyptian government, leading the government to take a dim view of adherents to the Brotherhood and allies' fundamental religious ideology?

"When Israel administered the Strip following the 1967 Six-Day War, it built industrial zones where tens of thousands of Gazans worked alongside Israelis, fostering a microcosm of peaceful coexistence through economic cooperation."

True. Moreover, Israel employed thousands of Gazans providing them with living wages superior to what they would earn back in the conclave. They also work in the kibbutzim in the and Gazan envelope. Peace through prosperity dividend? Upon retreat from Gaza, the Arabs destroyed the greenhouses, tore up the water delivery system, and turned the metal piping into rockets. Those who worked on the kibbutsim turned over detailed information about the residents (most of whom were ardent peaceniks) and infrastructure to Hamas. Contrary too the author's assertions that "in private, many people there long to break free from Hamas’ control," to this day, Hamas' popularity among the civilians polls from 75% to 80%. Thus the conclusions that "A stable, prosperous Gaza would mean fewer security threats, reduced migration crises, and a better investment climate across the region" may be wishful thinking based on Western values rather than realistic assessment of possibilities and probabilities based on Arab religeo-cultural values and sensibilities. What we in the West (including Israel) from the person in the street, to the media, to Academia, to the halls of political power fail to take into consideration to all our peril is how much Arab societies are conservative, traditional, and deeply religious. Imposing Western solutions that would work for Westerners will not work for societies that see the world through entirely different lenses.

I really like Joshua’s writing. He gave good reasons for his position without any reference to the justifiably defeated Nazi’s from WWII. I like to stay in the present when discussing present problems. I do not mind references to historical realities so long as they are genuinely relative to present ones.

Nazi’s of WWII are not, in my opinion, relative to the real problems we face today. I would not give them that much credit.

"Why would anyone who genuinely cares about the Palestinians want them to remain trapped in a war zone?"

Nobody genuinely cares about the Palestinians. And as far as leaders seeing the world not as it is but as it could be, the problem to this point is that too many leaders see the world as they wish it was rather than as it is. This is the curse of our time.

Trump's ideas about Gaza are aspirational, and for thinking outside the box he should be commended. He envisages a demilitarized Gaza where Gazans can enjoy a better life and Israel's security is enhanced. The deadend notion of Palestinian statehood is ignored, not part of the equation, because it isn't realistic and only leads to war and bloodshed. Indirectly he is saying that just as the "Palestinians", i.e. Arabs, can live happily in Israel and not in a Palestinian state, so too can the Gazans live happily in a non Palestinian state.

Great article!

This is a good summary of the three times that international leadership has walked away from their own state:

https://www.commentary.org/seth-mandel/clinton-arafat-and-a-century-of-rejection/

They don't want their own state. They never have. They want our state, with all the Jews gone.

They claim Gaza is an outdoor prison, but when offered to be freed from it, they will not leave.

Clinton told Arafat that if he didn't make peace there would come a point when options available back in 2000 would be foreclosed. That time has now arrived.

The Palestinians are deluded. Jordon doesn't want them. Egypt doesn't want them. Douglas Murray has some thoughts on where they might go:
