Absolutely. This is a very very important message that many of us have been trying so hard to put forward. And yet, far too many comfortable Westerners just don't hear it or believe it; they think if only Israel did not exist, neither would the extremism. Even many diaspora Jews believe that. I don't know how much more evidence the Western world needs to finally believe the truth about Islamic extremism and it just might be too late when they finally do. And when they do, they will STILL blame Israel as the cause of the extremism because--Jews. The world is irrational when it comes to Jews, obviously. As for the Muslim Reformation Movement that also seeks to alert the world about the dangers of extreme Islam, it is a wonderful and necessary movement and we see it working beautifully in the UAE in conquering extremism and one that the moderate Arab states in the Middle East are trying to promote; it will become a bigger effort once Israel finishes this war (very soon) as the Middle East attempts to become more like the UAE (and the moderate states will have to battle their own extremists within their countries to accomplish this goal). As one UAE official said this past year, "It is safer right now to be a visible Jew in the UAE than it is to be a visible Jew in New York City."

I'd like to believe that the UAE is practicing"reformed" Islam. Or is it that the UAE is pragmatic? Leans to the West and can justify its new arrangement with the detested Jews of the Quran.

Both, I think. But they have banned terror groups and go after anyone espousing hate against any group with vigor. They don't allow radical teaching or mullahs. There are lots of "coexistence" reformed mullahs who keep pointing to the parts of the Quran where Allah says, "Israel belongs to the Jews," instead of the violent parts, and they espouse acceptance of the Jews, "our cousins and brethren" as they say. I'll take it! Christianity went through a major reformation (they were as bad as terrorists today during the Crusades and Spanish Inquisition, etc). It CAN be done.

I don't have the inside information you write of how Islam is practiced in UAE. If it were the Islam of Albania or Bosnia then I'd be more willing to believe they are truthfully practicing coexistence. Post Christian Europe has resurrected anti Jewishness post Holocaust but on secular terms witness those who join the hundreds of thousands on the street of London, Paris, NY. Jesus may be of secondary importance to them or none whatsoever but Islam must be revered. All that bowing in unison, the call to prayer ....how beautiful compared to that black coated fur hatted rabble.....with rats nibbling their feet....see the floats in Belgium for "carnival" Today...not the thirties...Today .

Yes. I am seeing, hearing watching antisemitism from the christian community. A new lying twist of history that ‘the real Jews are not in Israel…’ etc. I hear that a lot. It is chilling.

thank you for your reply ....yes, that is in the mix of hate directed at Jews and Israel.

antisemitism never goes away completely, but most religious Christians today--particularly in America--are VERY pro Israel and the Jews. In fact, the only people I know being supportive and asking me how I'm doing are my religious Christian friends. Not the secular ones--not a word from them.

I haven’t heard that one! How very chilling indeed, though. Who do they think actually populates Israel?

I don't have centuries to wait for the reformation!! And living in fear doesn't work, either.

It didn’t take the UAE centuries to reform.

Here we are again in the depths of collective sorrow and mourning; and once again this draconian depravity plays out over and over again. What will it take to understand what we are dealing with? The clash of civilizations is in full display. The Palestinians are Hamas. Hamas are the Palestinians. These psychopaths will continue to murder the Jews, the Christians, the apostates and anyone who opposes their medieval ideology.

Excellent summation. How to get the whole world to read it. I am demoralized when I read such excellent writing because I know the people that need to read it never will. But thank you for taking the time to encapsulate all that must be said.

Outstanding! This is a cornerstone. You’ve written so many masterpieces, but this one is the most important and so eloquently stated and spot-on. We must share this widely, and specifically, we must send it to our governmental representatives and let them know it speaks for us and that we will hold them accountable to do their jobs. And let us bombard the media and NGOs with this as well as they are culpable. If enough of us do so, it may have an impact. Thank you, Joshua.

Excellent reality check!

When George Floyd was choked to death by the knee of the police agent, world outrage ignited and is sustained through the BLM movement.

Now that we know the Bibas infant boys were choked to death by Hamas terrorists and their bodies mutilated, where is the outrage by the Palestinian supporters?

Where are the demonstrations by the BLM progressives and the pro-Hamas student movements, the Jew haters and the like?

Where are the western democracies' flags flown at half mast?

Where is that outrage?

Condemnation with one liners is hypocrisy.

Say nothing, do nothing, mean nothing are acts of complacency.

There is only the crying silence of shame.

As always - so well said - the very basis of our free democracies is at appalling risk.

I am surrounded in East London by Islamists - women wearing full jihab, slits for eyes - mosques on every street corner. We used to be a mixed white, Caribbean, Hindu, Sikhu society - not any more

No more negotiating with terrorists. Only ultimatums. Release all the hostages, unconditionally surrender, or Israel will bomb Gaza until there is nothing left.

I agree with what you have said, but I believe Israel is guilty as well. This "deal" they made smelled from the beginning. They haven't learned about releasing large numbers of terrorists in exchange for a drip, drip of hostages, whether deceased or alive. And what do they get, a mockery of the lives of the beautiful Bibas family by Hamas and Palestinians. They get buses equipped with explosives, fortunately, someone didn't understand the concept of time, so no one was a victim. One of the terrorists released was a bus bomber, I believe, in the 90s, coincidence? I don't think so. What will it take for Israel to learn that deals cannot be made with terrorists. While they're going through the phases, Hamas is rearming and getting more weapons. So, I agree with you about the West, which has become inundated with immigrants of their own doing. I hope Israel understands what a vulnerable position it is in, and this slow walk to going back in to Gaza will end soon.

Once Israel gets all of the hostages back - what are they going to do about the 400 miles of terrorist tunnels?

Expand full comment
Diane Steiner's avatar

From what I heard here in the States, if Gaza was to be rebuilt, it will take many years to fill in those tunnels. They say there as many tunnels as the size of the New York subway system. I just read now that Israel did not release any prisoners. It's about time.

Putting apart the role that post Christian Americans, Australians and Europeans and some Christians as in South America play in demonizing Israel and Jews....there are the Jews....some are Israeli Jews....and the cover they provide for hating Israel. The 350 "rabbis" and hard left anti Zionist celebs i.e. Tony Kushner....take out a full page NY Times ad in virtuous outrage over alleged ethnic cleansing. So Gaza is their homeland? A despicable NY Times oped writer Beinart tells us in his latest screed that the strangulation death of Kfir is akin to the Mau Mau massacres of the British colonizers. Jewish Studies teach "Palestine narrative" What hope have we for the future? Post Jewish publications NY Times, NYer NY review of books are hard line anti Zionists....what hope have we?

Agree with your article. One point missing? Have the Western politicians sold their souls, integrity and humanity for islamic money? Doubt they would have done it for ideological reasons. Complicit through greed and self-aggrandisement.
