About 60 countries require military service. There are photos all over the internet of Israel’s youth because they are so attractive
And also the king of England is the head of their church. Doesn’t seem to confuse anyone. Don’t know why having a head rabbi would confuse people except for, you know, the “jew “ thing.
I'm not sure that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is about Palestinian antisemitism. I think that it's more that Palestinian/Arab culture sees compromise as a loss of face and prestige. In the West, in general, we aim for a win/win compromise. Arab culture seems impervious to that kind of thinking. If you add Islamic theology that sees "Palestine" as an irrevocable Waqf, that leaves very little room for compromise.
Richard Landes in his book ' Can the whole world be wrong? Lethal Journalism Antisemitism, and Global Jihad" tells the following story:-
'A peasant plowing his fields turned up a lamp. As he rubbed off the dirt, a genie appeared, thanked him for liberating him, and offered him one wish, on the condition that his neighbor got twice what he asked for. After a brief consideration, the wily peasant said, "poke out one of my eyes."
Wonderfully written, I want to share this with everyone. I appreciate the facts presented in a neutral tone. Thank you. I get so tired, frustrated and overwhelmed trying to explain. Another great piece.
But myths and cliches are so strong that in the case of Israel it is necessary to explain the simplest things that no one asks for an explanation for when it comes to other countries.
Why is no one bothered by the fact that there are many Catholics in the parliament (let's take this as an example) of Poland? Doesn't this intertwine religion and politics? Or are there many Muslims in the parliaments of Egypt and Indonesia? Does this bother anyone? Why should the fact that many Jews in Israel profess Judaism (what a surprise!) bother anyone?
Why can't a democratic country be Jewish? How does this bother non-Jews? A democratic country can be Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, and this does not raise any questions, but if the country is called Jewish, questions arise.
A little bit to dispel myths and break cliches: In Israel, according to labor law, there are days off for religious holidays, which the employer is obliged to pay the employee. However, if the employee is not Jewish, then he has the right to choose paid days off on the days of his religious holidays. This is a small example of the fact that all these questions are based on cliches imposed by propaganda and bias.
Why does the question of the religiosity of Israelis arise (this is even just an unwillingness to look at Wikipedia), but in relation to other countries, this does not bother anyone
Conscription in the army is also not an exclusive indicator, and how should this worry people who do not worry at the sight of militarized aggressive countries with military parades with heavy combat equipment?
There are no more protests in Israel than in European countries, where you can see protest rallies several times a day. Why do protests in Israel seem unusual?
And finally, why did the conflict with the Palestinian Arabs get out of control? (Actually, any conflict is something that got out of control).
Precisely because the entire world is biased against Israel (and we saw this when we discussed the previous questions), and one side of the conflict is constantly fed by the sympathies of the world's haters of Israel, ignorant useful idiots and simply people who, with good intentions, prolong the conflict and do not allow it to end. Everything gets out of control precisely where there are too many controllers.
There can be a 25th? state that specifically self describes its "character" as Arab and Muslim.....that is NOT racist. A self described Jewish state is the most racist....according to prevailing thinking. Let's put aside that 'Arab" is an invented 20th century descriptor.
Unless one is from Arabia. That "Turk" is an invented descriptor after the disintegration of the Ottoman empire....Jew is ancient identifier.
Over the years, I've encountered a lack of understanding about Israel....and no expressed interest in visiting. Including among Jews. The news reports are skewed against Israel. I once watched a scene of Israeli soldiers confronting rioters(NBC Nightly News) on the Temple Mount with a close non Jewish friend.....his response..." I don't like them(the Israelis) very much. This from a man who said throughout his life Jews have been among his closest friends.....I explained the news cast didn't show the rioters pelting worshippers at the Western Wall with stones. "Oh I didn't know." That is only one example. I've traveled three times to Israel since 1973....I pray that I have the health to go back.
Go fuck your genocidal bunch of colonist comedians. May Yahweh condemn you on this life and the next. You are the epitome of all that is wrong and evil in this world. There is not one thing that makes me think that Isnotreal has any justification to exist. It was born from terrorism and continues to subjugate the people that have more right to be in Palestine than a nasty Zionist group of Europeans that have no claim to the land that they occupy. One day everyone will comprehend that the only peace in the Middle East will be the destruction of the Zionist entity. Curl up and evaporate.

Just saying

Apparently “compromise” is not a word in the Arabic language. The concept doesn’t exist.

Wonderful essay Joshua. Kinda ironic cuz I have so many questions that confuse me about the outside world and their treatment of Jews and of Israel.
Just for starters.
1. How can so many call Jews colonizers when Jews have lived in the land called Israel for thousands of years?
2. How can they claim Israel is committing genocide when if that was the intent, Israel would have flattened Gaza on Oct 8th
and the list goes on and on.
papa j
Great explainer. Share with other social media.
I'm not confused about Israel. Never have been. But then again, I may not be the deepest of individuals. I am a simple man.

Thank you Joshua!! The list of 7 extra essays is well placed!! Also, this is worthy of a global T-Shirt industry
FRONT: Some questions are so detached from facts that answering them feels like...
BACK: indulging in a bad joke. Thanks but no thanks.
