I agree with you totally! Canada was once a beautiful Country. Now it is a monstrosity! They have created a war from nothing. Trudeau is a coward and has lost his mind! How dreadful it must be to be Jewish and living in Canada. I do believe that when the new government replaces him, as they surely will, things will change. However that is no comfort to you in the meantime. The world has taken leave of its senses. You will get through it though!

Montreal has become the bombshell centre of these hate filled violent protests with the police maintaining a pacific presence from all evidence. Mayor Plante is shamefully absent only able to meekly condemn the actions of the rioters. No action will only embolden rioters to further escalate the violence.

As for Justin Trudeau, you are correct. He dances as Montreal burns.

This will not end well.

A sad, but true commentary, and not unlike the US, France, and England who appease their Muslim groups because of their cowardice and lack of backbone. I can almost accept the inherent antisemitism in communities who have now been given permission to come out of their holes and scream to the world of their hate for Jews. What is difficult for me to swallow are the so-called leaders of Western countries who show blatant disregard for Israel and Jews. The only recourse will be for these gangs of elitist know nothings to be voted out of office, or have their terrorist supporting Muslims turn on them. Either way would be fine with me. Keep the faith Stephen, change is coming.

I assume Trudeau is pandering to the Muslims as there’s now noticeably more of them than Jews.

It’s a lot worse in Europe where there are even more Muslims.

No more Muslims please. I don’t want to end up like Europe.

Another excellent op ed thank you! I would like to share with the readers a direct quote from a letter published by The Wall Street Journal.

“The hypocrisy and irony of applying the theory of settler colonialism to the existence of Israel is beyond belief. The creation of the state of Israel is actually the goal of this theory: to reclaim the land by the indigenous people displaced in past colonial conquests. The indisputable facts of Jewish history in the Levant should make the proponents of this theory rejoice in the return of the Jewish people to the land of Canaan. Either there is a statute of limitations within this theory, or its application to Israel is purely an expression of antisemitism. The complicated history around and since Israel’s creation is open to nuanced arguments on both sides of the conflict, but the false idea that Israel is an example of settler colonialism serves no positive purpose. “

This was inevitable. With Muslim Canadians outnumbering Jewish Canadians by at least 20 to one, we Jews were bound to end up with the short end of the stick. Pierre Poilievre, Trudeau's Conservative opponent, came out pro-Israel and protective of Canadian Jews for a while. Let's see how long his support lasts.

This came as an email from Anthony Housefather, the Liberal MP in my Montreal district. I never liked this guy and the party doesn't value him much. But he is trying, for all the good it will do. We need a Jewish Defense League NOW. And the means to arm ourselves in a country that bans hand guns.

"Last night Parliamentary colleagues from around the world had gathered in Montreal for a NATO summit. A group gathered to demonstrate and crossed every line including smashing windows and burning a car. As part of the activities, anti-Israel and antisemitic slogans were chanted and an effigy of the Israeli Prime Minister burned. Three people have so far been arrested but this is insufficient. I have consistently tried to impress that this type of policing is insufficient on the Montreal Mayor, the agglomeration council and police.

So I want to tell you what I have done and what I recommend those of you who are Montrealers should do.

First, I immediately issued the following statement:

“Tonight in Montreal it appears protests have veered into lawlessness. I have consistently asked Mayors to advise police that criminal & municipal bylaws need to be applied. Tolerating behaviour like this to avoid escalation emboldens those breaking the law and scares others."

Then, I reached out to the Montreal Mayor’s office, local police, and the offices of the Prime Minister and relevant Ministers alerting them to the situation and asking for statements. Strong statements condemning the activities and advising the RCMP are in communication with local police and rioters needed to be held accountable were made by the Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Minister of Public Safety. You can find these all on their X pages.

I will be joining others at a meeting with local police next week and I will be raising the permissive nature of the policing with them again directly. I will also be following up again with Mayor Plante’s office.

I have also asked the Mayor of Public Safety to convene the Provincial Ministers of Public Safety to discuss the hate on our streets and find a way where the provincial and federal governments could help the municipalities deal with the issue of the hateful demonstrations. I will be pushing for that over the coming week.

For those of you who are Montrealers, I suggest you reach out to Mayor Plante and to your own local Mayor and Councillor. I suggest you say that you want police to enforce the laws and not simply keep the peace. And I suggest you ask local Mayors to raise the issue at the next agglomeration meeting question period (there is a Mayor Question Period) and if you are willing to go to the Montreal City hall raise this issue in citizen question period at the next Montreal Agglomeration meeting, please do so."

Suffice to say that the Australian Jewish community feels abandoned by the openly pro Palestinian lefty government who cannot condemn anti semitism without conflating it with non existent Islamophobia. They posit that this will not end well for Canada once Trump takes office. Thank you, Truedope!

"anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab racism" and "Palestinian and Muslim identities"

And now a word from our alternate sponsor: "genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group" Article II; Geneva Genocide Convention.

Question: how much are "Palestinians" a distinct group under the Genocide Convention and how much are they Judean-Samarian or Gazan Arabs?

To begin with the easiest categories to examine first, are they a race? The Cambridge Dictionary defines the term as

A: one of the main groups to which people are often considered to belong, based on physical characteristics that they are perceived to share such as skin colour, eye shape, etc.;

B. the idea that people can be divided into different groups based on physical characteristics that they are perceived to share such as skin colour, eye shape, etc., or the dividing of people in this way

C. a group of people who share the same language, history, characteristics, etc.

According to the above definitions, they do not constitute a distinct race because they resemble in every way Jordanians, Syrians, Iraqis, etc. Furthermore, their language and culture is distinctly Arabic. The matter of their history is interesting. They place their history generally within Arab history. The idea of a unique history will addressed below under National Identity.

Are "Palestinians" a religious group? No. They are Muslim, which means they are followers of Islam. That is their religious affiliation.

Are they a unique ethnicity? Again, No! Their ethnicity is Arab. Theyy describe themselves abeing members of the Ummah, that is, Arabic people.

Are they a national group? They are not now nor have they ever been a nation. In point of fact, the concept of Palestinian nationhood only came into being in 1964.

To sum up, not being a "a national, ethnical, racial or religious group" per the Geneva Convention of which defines protected groups, they are actually, Judean-Smarian and Gazan Arabs fighting tooth and nail to endow themselves with a distinct national identity.

Two other points to keep in mind. If we are going to use words to communicate with each other, at least let us use them accurately.

1. "Phobia" means an excessive and irrational fear.

2. "Miseo" means hatred. It. van be used as a suffix or.a prefix.

3. "Antipathy" means dislike of a thing.

Hence the appropriate term to apply to the dislike of Arabs would be Arabo-antipathy' to dislike of Islam would be Islamo-antipathy; to dislike of the followers of Islam would be Muslo-antipathy. All of them are awkward. Far better to say Antipathy to [fill in the blank].

If anything, what is commonly referred to by Muslims, Arabs in general, and so-called Palestinians as Islamophobia is actually an antipathy to these people, proably earned through decades of hostile actions to their host countries.

Secondly, be it noted that Muslims have a religiously derived hatred towards all non-Believers, whom they call Kufrs. Many of the threats to democracy non-Muslim countries are facing on the streets, on campuses, and too often in the Halls of Power, and notably in the media would go a long way to being eliminated if anti-Kufrmesia laws were put into place to protect social cohesion through civil discourse.

Just a thought. Don't think we should hold our breath that it will be entertained for a second by opinion makers, social influencers, or legislators.

1% RWNJobbery

Yes Frederick, Australia's current federal & state governments have done a spectacularly shameful U-turn regarding Israel.

In 1983 our then Prime Minister R J Hawke was Israel's greatest admirer and ally and public supporter on the international stage. Bob Hawke once remarked that if he could be reincarnated he would choose to return as a Jew. He must be turning in his grave at the appalling deterioration of tolerance in his once admired nation.

Our multi-cultural policy is failing aided & abetted by PM Albanese and Foreign Minister Penny Wong, with the support of Victoria's Premier Jacinta Allen who is suffering from a noticeable case of ostrichism.

'Divide and Rule' has been played since Roman times here in Europe so that the Political Elites can ride herd on us all. Anti-Jewish sentiment is played off against Islamophobia, and vice-versa. Anti-Semitism in the Liberal Elite has always been the Useful Idiot of State Fascism in the police forces and the Secret Services. So, Try to see to the end of the Play in all of this: The money to be made in isolating and intimidating each community, as we are swept up into the grip of the security services and into the pre-Fascist dawn of corruption and Expulsion that follows. The correct response is Solidarity across and between all communities threatened by this: No Pasaran!
