Beautifully said, Josh.

I recently found my great great grandmother was a Sephardic Jew (after years of suspicions). I’m slowly learning about the Jewish faith. This was so incredibly detailed. Thank you.

So beautifully written, keeping in tradition I’m reading this wonderful essay at 12:37 AM. Am Yisroel Chai!

Thank you. You’ve articulated something very important here that was just out of reach for some of us.

Hag Shavuot Same’ah, Joshua! חג הקציר, חג הביכורים!

Thank you Joshua for this essay — one of your best in its insight and poetry in prose!

I celebrated it in Israel, in a suburb of Tel-Aviv (Bat-Yam), between 1960-1964, in citywide processions with my elementary school, carrying fruits of the land. This experience connected me and my contemporaries to the land, to the geography, made agricultural manual work in many kibbutzim empowering and precious, to stay with me forever.

All the best!

Israel to the Jews out of the ghetto. What will take the ghetto out of the Jew?

I listened to this - twice, then a third time.....

Splendidly articulated.

Shavuot has been the festival I've paid least attention to over the years,

and you've imbued it with so much more meaning for me.

Thank you

I disagree. All "Jews" are Yisrealites or also called Hebrew, but not all Yisrealites or then Hebrews are "Jews". " Jews" or the term" Jew" did not exist at Mount Sinai. The forefathers of the "Jews" or rather Yahudah, was one of 12 tribes receiving Torah. By not stating this truth the nations are left confused.

At Sinai, the Good Lord said, "Here is an instruction manual. Read it. Follow the lessons. I know that you will backslide. I know that in your own wisdom, you will think that there is a better way. I forgive you in advance and will continue to forgive. After all, I understand that even though I made you in My image, you are still only human. Just try to do the best that you can." May we continue to try. Win at Life!
