Of course you can quote Tanakh. And rightly so. But look at how differently Jews and Christians for example treat the same texts. The question is how we can reconcile a spiritual story with rationality or historical events. In the end one decides which approch one prefers.
Thank you Jerry. I don't think the populace of Isral is the problem, but I certainly think the political nd military big wigs failed very badly over October 7th although subsequently they have got their act together. But I certainly agree with you over the USA/Diaspora Jewry. And do visit Israel. Its worth it!!!!
Totally in agreement, they did fail us Oct 7th. Once this war is over, there will definitely be an intense investigation to find out what went wrong and which individuals are accountable.
As far as visiting Israel, its on the bucket list but been hit with Long Covid and that has really hurt me health wise.
Keep up the good fight Jeremy and all the best to you. ahimsa papa j
I have never been to Israel so I don't want to be "over confident" that my view is correct but I dont think Israelis are at all over confident. I don't believe a country that has been at war since its inception could possibly be overly confident about its future. They weren't over confident in any of the concessions they made to the Arabs. What they were in fact was "extremely hopeful" of the future. If you want to call them guilty of anything, it would be that they were terribly "ethnocentric". They thought that the majority of Arabs want to live in peace, want to raise their kids to be successful etc. That their culture was that same as ours. That was their mistake.
Where I agree with you Jeremy is with the Diaspora Jew ..... They are way too guilty of being over confident. "Never happen in America" Are you crazy? "Demonstrations calling for Jewish Genocide in America" .... what drugs are you on?
Complacent, over confident and somewhat irrational. They cant even see the overt change happening in the Democratic Party. They cant see that Harris will be worse for Jews and Israel. They are over confident that the Dem Party is our friend and our ally even though they have thrown us under the bus continually.
Overconfidence may be the undoing of the Diaspora Jews in America and in Canada.
With all due respect Rabbi Rosen, I believe the Tanakh expresses a contrary view in quite a few places. Not wishing to belabor the point, I share just this one:
Isaiah 48
1 Listen to this, O House of Jacob, who bear the name Israel and have issued from the waters of Judah, who swear by the name of the LORD and invoke the God of Israel—though not in truth and sincerity—
2 for you are called after the Holy City and you do lean on the God of Israel, whose name is LORD of Hosts: 3 Long ago, I foretold things that happened, from My mouth they issued, and I announced them; suddenly I acted, and they came to pass.
4 Because I know how stubborn you are
(your neck is like an iron sinew and your forehead bronze), 5 therefore I told you long beforehand, announced things to you ere they happened—that you might not say, “My idol caused them, my carved and molten images ordained them.”
6 You have heard all this; look, must you not acknowledge it? As of now, I announce to you new things, well-guarded secrets you did not know.
7 Only now are they created, and not of old; before today you had not heard them; you cannot say, “I knew them already.”
8 You had never heard, you had never known, your ears were not opened of old.
Though I know that you are treacherous, that you were called a rebel from birth,
9 for the sake of My name I control My wrath; to My own glory, I am patient with you, and I will not destroy you.
10 See, I refine you, but not as silver;
I test you in the furnace of affliction.
11 For My sake, My own sake, do I act—lest [My name] be dishonored!
I will not give My glory to another.
12 Listen to Me, O Jacob, Israel, whom I have called: I am He—I am the first, and I am the last as well. 13 My own hand founded the earth, My right hand spread out the skies. I call unto them, let them stand up.
14 Assemble, all of you, and listen!
Who among you foretold these things:
“He whom the LORD loves shall work His will against Babylon, and, with His might, against Chaldea”?
15 I, I predicted, and I called him; I have brought him and he shall succeed in his mission.
16 Draw near to Me and hear this:
From the beginning, I did not speak in secret; from the time anything existed, I was there. “And now the Lord God has sent me,endowed with His spirit.”
17 Thus said the LORD your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I the LORD am your God, instructing you for your own benefit.
Guiding you in the way you should go.
18 If only you would heed My commands!
Then your prosperity would be like a river, your triumph like the waves of the sea.
19 Your offspring would be as many as the sand, their issue as many as its grains.
Their name would never be cut off or obliterated from before Me.
20 Go forth from Babylon, flee from Chaldea! Declare this with loud shouting, announce this, bring out the word to the ends of the earth! Say: “The LORD has redeemed His servant Jacob!"
21 They have known no thirst, though He led them through parched places; He made water flow for them from the rock; He cleaved the rock and water gushed forth.
22 There is no safety—said the LORD—for the wicked.
May Adonai continue to pour out His grace upon His Chosen People, comfort and encourage them in the time of trials, give wisdom and courage to her leaders, valor, might, power, and victory in battle to her warriors, and unity of spirit and will to her people, turning the hearts of His people to Himself, that they might worship and serve Him in spirit and truth, and walk in the fullness of His blessed will.
Another certainty in the Middle East, is that Only the Strong Survive.
In parts of The West, The Strong are shunned: In some parts of the Global culture across the planet too. In fact, Jealousy against Strong and Successful people is what motivates this part of the Culture, as some people seek to shackle and silence what The Ordinary People themselves know: When threatened, Only the strong survive. Nowhere is this more true than in The Middle East. So, roll on a Trump victory, and the same for Israel too. For only through VICTORY against Islamism (as against Totalitarian Nazism and Communism before it) comes PEACE, so that the Liberal Freedoms and the High Standards of Living which we all value here in The West can continue.
Yes indeed survival requires strength and ignoring the appeasers.

“We did not predict Covid.” The World pHarma Organisation knew about it, they created it in their Whuhan lab.
The WHO Is part of the UN which is unelected and, constantly criticises Israel.
The UN is the head of the beast, it needs to go.
Think of all that prime Manhattan real estate!

Human Nature is the only political certainty. For Good or for Bad .....
Surely not the only one but I take your point!
