Not shocked at all. Lately? Its been going on since the early 1980s in the US. They lost their jobs. (too bad - too sad)
There was a pro hamas rally with an iman in downtown fort lauderdale in 2008 - they were chanting "go back to the ovens"
As we saw in 1937 when the grand mufti and ah met in berlin - Judenhass comes from both sides. Thanks for sharing this.- It's important that more gen # 2s speak up and loudly. We already know what people are capable of doing to Jews.
PS: My father was also a survivor - my mother a nazi refugee... most of my paternal including my paternal grandparents and many maternal family members were murdered in Auschwitz, very few actually survived.
“Antisemitism is always a means rather than an end. It is a measure of the contradictions yet to be resolved. It is a mirror for the failings of individuals, social structures and state systems. Tell me what you accuse the Jews of, I’ll tell you what you’re guilty of.”
And so it’s no surprise that there are dozens of signatories representing Muslim associations and healthcare professionals excusing and supporting the 2 nurses at the Centre of the storm. Islamophobia and entrapment are to blame, not radicalism nor antisemitism.
A good article. My wife agrees. This morning whilst having our coffee which she makes she pointed out that its gone very quiet on this story. Well not quite quiet since the Muslim fellow needed to go to hospital for a check up. Luckily, for him, a Jewish looking person (a doctor ?) Promised he would be looked after appropriately until fully recovered. The other mention around this incident is a statement from someone that he was fully supportive of the two Muslim nurses. This incident was a real eye opener for the Australian public and i must say that the political response was complete and 100% supportive of the Jewish community. Other than that nothing. The videos around this incident are unbeleivable. Worth a look. Its been about a week. Keep it alive.
I wonder how few days they will spend on paid administered leave. 1 week? Maybe 2? Then they will quietly be let back into their jobs. Investigation concluded. No further disciplinary action warranted.
I'm sorry to say I was not surprised when I read an article about them because I have read many articles about the state of our US medical schools and their DEI departments. There have been residents and med students who have said they will not treat Jews. What is insidious about this is that the heads of these schools say nothing, and some department heads rally alongside them. Those two nurses should have been fired and their licenses taken away never to be near another patient, but instead courage and backbone are missing from all of the leadership. Robert Kraft's Super Bowl "No Reason to Hate" which was originally supposed to be a statement about antisemitism had made no mention of it. This is where the problem of hate against Jews is allowed to metastasize like a cancer without a cure. Until those in charge put a stop to people like the nurses, the revulsion that is felt towards Jews will continue ad infinitum.
This is a very well written article, Julie. Thank you for writing it. Underlying all of this is hatred and intentional political avoidance of dealing with the actions and threats of those who are filled with hatred. I notice the distinct and stark difference in your comments and those Muslim nurses.
Your response was accurate and without hate. You even avoided falsely accusing them of being guilty of murders that one of them had facetiously ( hopefully) confessed to having committed. You displayed no hate just a clear and accurate observation of the facts. You did not allow emotions to rule your choice of words. I admire you for this display of honesty and self control.
The west has been deluded for years into believing that there are two kinds of Muslims, the nominal peaceful ones and the “radicalized” ones. They even invented the word “ Islamophobia” to avoid blaming the Muslim religion for their behavior and their hatred of Jews and anyone else that will not convert to their religion. This reality is, in my opinion, a huge error and a massive mistake.
They are following their religion in all of this. If this hatred was contrary to their religion they would speak up to condemn those who express hatred and kill in the name of their religion.. If we will learn to blame their religion and condemn it for the evil it inspires we would soon take the appropriate actions to counter it.
"The sentiment is hardly noteworthy on the Israel-hating hard Left."
Sorry, Beg to differ because the implication is that only the hard left hate.Israel (and as Israel is a Jewish country, ergo they hate Jews). It is not just the hard Left but the Left itself which hates Israel / Jews. Always a good thing to name the full scope of your enemy.
"The members of the intelligentsia who want to cleanse the world of Israelis perceive themselves to be on the side of the angels. They believe they’re righteous warriors against a state framed in their discourse as a genocidal, settler-colonial, white supremacist, apartheid entity"
Silly question: how can you be enemy alien settler, colonial, white supremacist, apartheid occupiers of your own historical, ancestral, territorial homeland?
"the fact it’s also the world’s only Jewish state, and home to roughly half the Jews on the planet, is simply coincidence"
To cite the smallness of the Jewish state and it's numerical size as reason for the validity of its existence trivializes and thus serves to deny its real legal and historical claim to legitimacy.
"Everyone from the federal government down must stop pairing their condemnation of anti-Semitism with that of “Islamophobia” because this conceals and obfuscates the reality that much of the Jew-hatred we’re seeing today emanates from a section of the Islamic community."
Actually, invoking Islamophobia in the same breath as antisemitism is one way to minimize if not justify attacks on Jews and calls for the destruction of Israel. Truth be told, a closer analysis of this so-called phenomena of Islamophobia reveals it is a political tactic to shut down any criticism of hatred of Jews and violent attacks against them coming from Islamic / Arabic sources.
Sadly, my reaction was exactly the same. Appalled but not surprised.8

Australia is being destroyed from within like much of the west.

Ahmad Nadir represents the nadir of Western civilization.
Very appropriate name.

Great post. Thank you.
Not at all surprised.
Thanks!!! WWW. Wit Works Wonders.

Disgusting.
Well said. Thank you

Why aren't these two nurses investigated and deported?

Other than that, well presented article.
