Twenty years ago, the thought of describing Islam as you have done would have sickened me. Because I couldn't wrap my head around the idea that Muslims (or anyone else) could not be assimilated into Western secular societies. But my husband of Blessed Memory, warned me. A Sabra who spoke Arabic as well as Hebrew, who fought under Ariel Sharon in the IDF, who worked with Arabs and was friendly with some, warned me. One, he said, you must show strength to an Arab or he will never respect you. Two, no matter how much they like you they will almost always kill you if their religious leaders order it. Today, I realize my husband was right. Josh, your words are right. And Winston Churchill - who was not right about everything - was spot on (and ahead of his time) when it came to recognizing villainy. He warned Britain and the world about the evils of Hitler and the Nazis 10 years before WW2, but no one listened. At the turn of the 20th century he likewise warned Europe about the evils of Islam (a.k.a. Mohammedanism). Today, as Israel valiantly fights Islamic deceivers and conquerors – and Western nations foolishly welcome them by the millions into their midst - let us look back to Winston’s observations, written in his 1899 book The River War: “How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement, the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.” Sadly Winnie, no one listened to you about Islam either. And Europe is falling.

Joshua, you are absolutely correct in everything you have stated in your article. Shared humanity is a lovely concept, and those who stress it, "makes them feel good." (As Einat Wilf has said about the war and it's pro Hamas supporters. The irony is you can't have shared humanity when the message from DEI, excludes certain groups and encourages divisiveness. You can't have shared humanity when as Ido Aharoni said, "Hamas is a death cult." There is one huge and dangerous reason we can't enjoy a shared humanity because it is so difficult to counter the hate for Jews and Israel, which you wrote about in another article (I believe it was yesterday's), and that is the huge swath of money controlling politics, businesses, real estate, education, universities, etc. that is infecting our Western values because of the "obscenely generous donors." In cities like New York and elsewhere, the police do little to nothing because of the progressive no bail laws that follow the catch and release thinking. As one of many examples, at Berkeley recently, an IDF soldier was to give a speech to Jewish students. The protesters broke windows and forced the Jewish students to evacuate the auditorium. Now in the world of sanity, the police would have evacuated the protesters so the event could go on. I don't know how we can counter this except to say Jews must come out in full force and be as loud as the opposition. It's difficult though when the police are there to protect the pro Hamas people, as they do in New York, and disperse the Jewish groups. I agree with you that on a community, neighborly level we can have a shared humanity. But I will not attempt to with people who would like to see my demise. Cowardice reigns here in the US when it comes to Jews. The only courageous people left are the Israelis. Am Yisrael Chai!
Absolutely spot on. What, in your opinion is the best way to counteract the threat? How do we un-indoctrinate the "Westerners" (woke or naive or intellectually lazy)? Many of them will not admit that they know that islamists are murderous, misogynistic, homophobic brutes but are too afraid of being ostracized, "cancelled" or considered racist. How does one get the truth out when faced with governments and media that pander and kowtow to islam? I welcome anyone to suggest some workable solutions (apart from my knee-jerk reaction to kill them all and let g-d sort them out)
My opinion about the best way to counteract this threat is to isolate it. Do not let it into mainstream politics, institutions, education, media, businesses, and organizations. Let those who live in LaLa Land live there with whomever they want, but they are not welcome to participate in and influence mainstream society as long as they do.
Geert Wilders, now PM of the Netherlands, seems hell-bent on preventing Islam from taking over his country. He's banned Muslim immigration and put restrictions on Mosques. Of course, he's being labelled a racist by the mainstream media and that is why other countries are scared to push back against the Islamization of theirs. But Wilders doesn't seem to be a racist; just a realist. Given the "fatwas" issued against him by the Muslim world, he's a very brave man.
Theo Van Gogh, a descendant of the famous Dutch painter Vincent Van Gogh, was a friend of Geert Wilders. He made a documentary on Islam. In 2004, Theo was murdered in the street by an Islamist extremist named Mohammed Bouyeri. Theo van Gogh was hit by eight bullets and his throat was cut. A note was attached to Theo's body with a dagger stating that Ayaan Hirsi Ali, an ex-Muslim who provided content for the film, would be the next victim.
Ayaan Hirsi Ali was a former refugee from Somalia who became a Dutch Member of Parliament. She was a confidant of Wilders. A fatwa has also been issued to Ayaan Hirsi Ali. She has been targeted for many years and now lives in the U.S. She is a true feminist, fighting against female genital mutilation and arranged marriages.
Wilders made his own short film about the Quran in 2008. He has had to have more security than any other person in Denmark for the past 20 years, wears a bulletproof vest every day, and has to take a number of other security steps just to stay alive.
What more proof do Western countries need about the dangers of Islam? I heard that Britain voted for a ceasefire out of fear that British Muslims would bring chaos to the streets if they didn't. Do they not have police and a military to protect themselves against these monsters? In Montreal, Canada - where I live - politicians are likewise afraid to apply our anti-hate laws to pro-Palestinian protestors when they preach hate and violence to Israel and Jews. The Western world has gone insane.
If I look at a country like the UK or elsewhere in Europe - if I was afforded the privilege or opportunity of being able to live and work in a civilised country, I would assume that I should at least obey the laws of that country and not demand that my version of what is right or wrong be implemented. If I do not like their laws - leave.
May I respectfully point out that this threat is already in our mainstream politics, institutions, education, media, businesses, and organizations. What is happening on American campuses may signal the death throes of the U.S. my father came to, as a child, from Ukraine. Students are being trained in an ideology that will destroy freedom, while fantasizing that they, in their militant enlightenment, can and must bring about utopia.
Excellent article Joshua, also very sad about the state of affairs in our world. Unfortunately, the way I see it, when “The Rule of Law” falters in our democracy then a dictator seems like an acceptable replacement. We’re living in very scary times.
Another fantastic article from you Joshua. I especially liked the quote from Luai Ahmed describing the Muslim outlook and how backward they are, studying the same parts of their teachings over and over again…not changing or going forward. They are practicing Psychological Terrorism on us, as you said because they can’t compete militarily. How can we fight this? I never thought this could happen in America and I am not naive. I taught history.
Excellent article, Joshua. You are spot-on and so obviously correct in your assessment. History has shown us repeatedly that appeasement of those intent on aggression and domination is a dead-end. The general tack of the West to coddle and make excuses for terrorists and their supporters is not only ineffective, misguided, and self-defeating, it is revealingly weak -- the kiss of death in the Middle East which we should know by this time.

Thank you Joshua. Keep up the outstanding writing. It is good for my soul to read something real.
Happy to hear it!!

That is the rational, respectful, decent way to approach it. Most of the people in question are not that.

So true. We are in for it, but I have hope we can turn it around.
How about one strike and you’re out?

Any violence by a naturalized citizen should result in the revoking of citizenship and deportation if the entire extended family. Just saying.
The answer is to keep speaking up and out as long as it takes to all whether they like it or not or listen or don’t. It has to be.
