We have outlived every empire from Pharaoh through the USSR we will outlive these fabissenah bastards (as my grandfather would call them) too....Am Yisrael Chai!
What about the disgracefully “sabone” Jews that voted 65% for a Dem/socialist/marxist party that fosters anti semitism on US campuses , is against the Israeli nations attempts to destroy a barbarous enemy, from Barry Soetoro to corrupt Joe Biden to the Jewish kapos in the house & senate. Yet vilifies the greatest U.S. president for Israel & the Jews in history. These fools would have been led into the showers looking for the soap & towels. Shalom
I am not sure how much you help the current state of disunity in the Diaspora community with your above comment, Terry. Two Jews, three opinions. Get over it.
This is the most moving and powerful essay I have read. To hear the description of Yossi was wonderful! I believe you have suffered constantly during the last 18 months and even more before. You have made your way by not listening to the US calls to stop. You have pursued your own path! You have refused to bow down and that is right. The UN is corrupt and biased, never accept what they say! Please carry through your course of self determination. You have done it through history, carry it on.
I was born and raised in the Valley, so it was a wonderful surprise to see one of our locals highlighted. While VBS isn't our shul, it is for many folks I know, so I've shared this with them...that may mean word will get back to Yossi very quickly! 😉
Goldstein's declaration, "Israel . . . is not just the name of the state that was formed in 1948; it is also the name of the Jewish People as a whole" is the very antidote to the anti-Zionism toxin even many Jews are swilling today.
>”For two and a half millennia, the nations of the world have led global affairs while the Jewish People were exiled from their homeland. In those two and a half millennia, what has been the state of the world?
Perpetual war.”
Anyone who can read these words and not burst out laughing cannot be considered a rational person. A cursory look through the history books does not reveal peace reigning in the world from 1047BC to 587BC or 140BC to 44AD. The religious narrative of the conquest of the land of Israel was hardly bloodless either. The author needs there to be a link in order to justify his ridiculous antipathy to “goyim”. Let me assure him that there are plenty of people who wish Israel and Jews well and think the United Nations is dangerous. Tarring us with the same brush is a great way to harden hearts.
Bad Idea to leave the UN. This would at a stroke isolate Israel from the League of Sovereign Nations, and let our enemies call us not a country anymore because all the other countries of the world are members of The UN.
Not sure I can agree with you, Dan. It seems to me that most of the UN’s member states are already hoping Israel ceases to exist. I certainly do not agree the membership in the UN legitimizes the State of Israel.
With regard to Mr Chodosh's remarks; while respecting his outrage, it can not be a substitute for an analysis of just why some Jews turned traitor and so facilitated 'Jew washing'. The immaturity of youth explains some of this. More is related to need for peer approval and acceptance into 'The Circle of the Righteous' as defined by dominant zeitgeist, currently Wokeism, a degenerate product of poor French Philosophy, the Frankfurt school and a very successful March through the Institutions .
It's no surprise that this radical pseudo-philosophical hodgepodge has reached the usual end point of disguised or blatant of political antisemitism of the Soviet variety
In the Soviet Union it was okay to be a Jew, and even receive plaudits if you showered contempt or worse on unreconstructed Jews as you relinquished some and preferably all your Jewish identity while still keeping the now empty label Jew. There were nominal Jews on some of those Ivy League demonstrations.
Sad to say but I strongly feel that the Second Independence war is NOT over yet. They will try once again all together to destroy Yisrael. They don’t value that HASHEM Almighty is with Israel and IDF and IAF . It is all written in the Torah but sad to say , Anthony Blinken and many Jews like him don’t believe in the Torah. The final battle is yet to come soon . The world leaders and politicians are corrupted and looking for their own personal welfare and prosperity. HASHEM Almighty has the control of everything everywhere all the time. HASHEM will soon take the lead. The Third Temple and the Kingdom of Israel ( Davidic Dynasty) are eternal and Sanhedrin will also be in the Third Temple on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem. The final peace will come only after Shechinah is dwelling in the Third Temple on Mount Moriah in Jerusalem Very Soon Baruch HaShem.
And I remind you, as I always do when you speak here Mr Urho, Hashem Almighty did not save The Jewish People, frum or otherwise, from The Holocaust. Likewise Wotan and the Norse Gods did not save The Nazis from total defeat in WWII. Thus Totalitarian Religion is Debunked by simple Logic.
To the believer, every good thing that happens is a heavenly reward, every bad thing a divine trial. There is no way to reason someone out of a position they did not reason themselves into.
I still like Religion for all the important things it did and does still bring Humankind. Just don't call G-d almighty (which is the basis of Totalitarianism at least as bad as Marxism or The Nazis) because in the face of Logic and the horrors of Religious War it REALLY annoys me! Also, maybe G-d is just not Almighty. Which can sneak through logically. Best wishes. Hope this helps.
Good grief. If this kind of overblown rhetoric (to give it a distinction it doesn’t deserve) is the best that can be produced by this author, I don’t think much of it. You can be angry at the United Nations and inane leftist rhetoric without sneering at everyone else by proxy. Let’s be frank, assuming the maximal amount of truth to Jewish doctrine, the 2000 year lack of a Jewish state and accompanying diaspora has nothing to do with the “Goyim” and everything to do with the Divine will. As we retreat from maximal truth, the situation looks ever more embarrassing. To those who are angry at what I’m saying, reread this piece and replace every reference to Jews and Israel with Thais and Thailand. Sounds absolutely self absorbed and ridiculous doesn’t it? It would be lovely to talk about Israel and the Jewish people without having to roll my eyes at the magical thinking so prevalent in these spaces.
Hi Matthew, I’m sorry you didn’t like my writing. I’m just coming to talk about a few historical points: the Thai people did not emigrate to Thailand until about the 6th century, and they did not form their first sovereign state until about the 13th century.
By the time the Thai people had first established sovereignty in their land, the Jews had experienced: the Babylonian exile, the Greek genocides, the first Roman genocide, the second Roman genocide, the early Christian pogroms, and the crusades.
The European nations of the world, who dominate the UN, have been massacring Jews since before Thailand even existed.
I’m sorry that my writing made you roll your eyes, but I really appreciate your historical comparison. I had never thought about the history of antisemitism compared to the history of Thailand, and you have given me a lot of good food for thought.
Ted, I feel you miss my point. Scientifically speaking we all came out of Africa. Human beings are all of the same species, we have the same hopes and aspirations. Please abandon the idea that the world is against you or the Jewish people, there are friends and enemies in every nation including Israel and the Jewish people. Shalom!
Perhaps I did miss your point, but I would be very careful about telling Jewish people how they should or should not feel about antisemitism. The United Nations is undeniably set against the Jewish people and the Jewish state; the international Red Cross has not visited the hostages once; “Zionists” are being bullied off of college campuses — until I see the other nations of the world standing up against such obvious evil, I reserve my right to feel how I do about them.
You can feel how you want. I can feel how I want. I’m telling you that I understand the problems you have with the United Nations and the Red Cross and college campuses. I’m a conservative, I have many of the same criticisms. I am going to say, for the last time because I think I’ve been very clear, that when you take the United Nations and generalise to the entire world (aside from Israel) you are smearing a lot of people with a bad brush. If you come up to me and yell at me and say “that’s for how your government votes in the UN!”, I have a right to call you out. If you don’t wish to attack me and other non-Jewish Israel supporters, maybe stick to criticising the bad guys?
So . . I tried the exercise you suggest, but, not being a student of Thai history, I fail to see the relevance. I’m still not sure why you take such offense at the essay. How could Jews NOT be absorbed by their current situation, both in Israel and in the Diaspora? The author does not let us off the hook of being responsible for our own destiny. Does that mean you are a self-hating Jew or an anti-semite? It is hard to know. I hope you confine your own hatreds to private eye-rolling. I am not angry, just mystified.
No study of Thai history is needed. Merely an appropriate scepticism for outrageous claims. You may not be angry, but I am that you immediately jump to antisemitism at the slightest criticism of a narrative (not a people). Perhaps you and the author could turn some of that self absorption inwards and stop attacking your friends and supporters because goodness knows you need them.
Matthew, this website sort of exists as a place where we Jews can come and feel a bit sorry for ourselves. Do forgive us. We don't actually deserve what History has thrown at us. Anti-Semitism was the first Racism. The Wars of Roman times created The Diaspora as The Jews were scattered. The Monarchs and the States then burnished their Power by Hatred against Jews. Not our fault. Glad to hear of your continued support.
Respectfully, everyone has their woes. Slavery was no picnic for my people, but sitting around whining and creating self-aggrandising narratives lead to Hotep and Black Israelite rubbish. If I see such crap, I call it out.
Great article. And re independence from the rest of the world, including the US -- Israel has to start manufacturing all of its own weapons. As much as possible. That will ensure true independence.

Good point, Terry! Some of our brothers/sisters are super slow to catch on!!
I am not sure how much you help the current state of disunity in the Diaspora community with your above comment, Terry. Two Jews, three opinions. Get over it.
I value clarity over agreement
I agree with you. It's not about agreement versus clarity. What we need is solidarity and positivity.
Made my heart swell. Thank you.

Nice work

What a beautiful tribute to Yossi, to the resilience of the State of Israel and its citizens, and to the endurance of Israel, the people.

Probably true. Pardon my French, but better to be inside the tent pissing out…

I went to Hebrew school at VBS in the 1970s. Our Rabbi was Schulweiss. It was a fabulous synagogue.
