“What the hell is going on?” is a weekly series in which we bring you the most bizarre, outlandish, and surreal developments from around the Jewish world during the past week.
The repetitive chorus of "yes, but Islamophobia" has long grated on my nerves, but lately, it's reached a crescendo of irritation that's becoming unbearable to endure.
This is already starting to backfire on these hateful people. My peers and I have quietly agreed to no longer even consider the resumes of students with Muslin names, or most any student that will graduate from these high profile anti Semitic universities.
Each day the absurdities become more intense and it's then when I must turn my brain off and meditate. But "What the Hell" brings some levity to this craziness. In the midst of all of it, we need to have some humor to dispel the seriousness. And while Mel Brooks got a lot of pushback on his treatment of serious subjects, he said, "The only way to get even with anybody is to ridicule them," he said. "So, the only real way I could get even with Hitler and company was to bring them down with laughter." This may not be for everyone, but humor can bring some light in these dark times. For me, your "What the Hell" does just that.
What the hell is going on? The usual smoke and mirrors orchestrated by the Islamo/Leftist alliance. Jewish communities must continue to stage their own counter-protests. Jewish donors must stop their money from feeding the universities. (This is a big thing and I'd like to see more Jewish donors held to accounts for continuing to fund them.) But I suspect the unholy alliance may be pushing things too far: they are starting to alienate non-Jews with their campus shenanigans. I normally don't wish for violence but in this case I hope it gets out of control - passing over Jews (as the angel of death passed over Jewish homes when bringing the final plague against Egypt) and hitting complacent non-Jews where they live. Maybe then will we see action taken against this scourge on democracy and decency.
What nonsense! I do not, under any circumstances, endorse terrorism by Jews (G-d forbid). But the natural tendency for the violent Jew-hating protestors is to spread their venom all over, so everyone gets hit. They cannot help this. It's in their nature. I just hope when this happens, the Jews are protected. Maybe if the non-Jewish university administrators shut down this horror, no one would be hit. Maybe if enough "Goyim" protested no one would get hit. But their own anti-Semitism, disguised as political correctness or just plain apathy, will eventually be their undoing. Because the monsters are not just hitting on Jews, they are undermining the fabric of American society and that affects everyone.
Wrap your head around this, students are not suspended for threatening to burn the school down, threatening students, camping illegally, blocking access. I have been suspend at the University of Guelph/Humber for calling Hamas Nazis. Can we rename the University of Guelph, the University of Hamas?
Hearing this makes one brainsick; One begs/prays for Post Traumatic Syndrome to set in, yet the post 10/7 trauma just keeps coming, unrelentingly. It is one thing thig that droves of W.A.S.P college kids are donning Keffiyehs, but now the images of them on every campus USA, in common areas, quads & community lawns, kneeling down in groups to parrot Islamic prayer is yet another farcical layer. I never much liked Halloween, primal scream, but this is downright unbelievable. I live in a populace Jewish region of L.A., the San Fernando Valley. It is sometimes called "Little Tehran" because of its very large expat Iranian community, A sizable portion are Jewish. This morning in Whole Foods, I saw a Persian man with a Kipah, & in trauma-induced solidarity, I remarked to him, 'AM AHAD!' He half-smiled but looked a bit jarred. Lately I have taken to greeting those wearing Kipot when I encounter them with the same greeting. Usually it's been Israelis, & I warmly get the same acknowledgement back. Proceeding to the Sushi counter, the young very obviously Latina woman was wearing a Keffiyeh. I asked her a mindless question about the Sushi to check my accuracy, & yes, her inflection was Latin. My Birthday Cake Greeting to a cousin on Facebook was "liked" by a man named Abdullah Husseyin. Out of curiosity I clicked to see his wall. His large wall photo was of a line of flags with Jewish Stars on them. Inside each star was what looked to be a swastika. I asked my cousin if this looks this way to him as well (I wanted to share the photo here, but don't see how), & his response was that "This man is a "big supporter of Israel." I'd love a second opinion, but my eyes seem to be fully functional.
So, back to the recent rash of articles in Future of Jewish & some in Tablet that emphasize Obama & Bidens disavowal of the "Abraham Accords" & Bidens essentially helping Iran to have & legitimately use nuclear war heads, this once "Liberal," retired Educator, Democrat, cannot conscionably call herself completely Liberal anymore. Free speech isn't free or liberating when it lauds, supports, & begets further Terrorism. TERRORISM, that's not a Gray term, it's an absolute. Here's the problem; Trump seems to favor whomever heavily support him/ hoist him up, and since a frighteningly growing majority seem to be "converting" to Anti-Zionism, who's to say that Trump will not appease these supporters in his stances as he has with skinheads, "Proud Boys," etc? Forget about his daughter & son-in-law. What he did for Israel & Jews during his presidency isn't insured as a repeat-performance if he took the reigns. We are in jeopardy.
No. First of all, Islamophobia is BS and entirely incomparable to Jew hate. Secondly, the very term implies an irrational fear of Islam, and given current events, a fear of Islam is NOT irrational.
These appalling events are, in your words, an unbearable escalation! My heart beaks for you. Israel, keep your head and go forward in whatever way you choose. Only you can fight this. We that love you will give whatever support we can.
I would like to add some good news to my previous post! I watched a wonderful programme tonight on a British mainstream television channel at peak time.
Sam Holder a Journalist for ITV took a journey all over Britain to celebrate Passover with a wide range of different Jewish families. It really was uplifting and so educational! Israel has such an incredible history. Sorry if this is not appropriate to the post, I thought it was important
Deranged and satanic doesn't begin to describe these universities. Covering a synagogue bus and a memorial to Ann Frank, cutting ties with Israeli researchers in the hope that will appease the savages they stupidly and suicidally allowed into their countries. The jihadi hordes the west let inside the gates are out of control and the response from authorities is to throw Jews under the bus instead of mass deportations of muslims. I'm beyond disgusted with the pathetic cowardice of the west. So much for "never again". WW3 is upon us and this time the bad guys are going to win because the west has surrendered. This is not anywhere near the greatest generation that won WW2. The only thing stopping another Jewish holocaust is Israel.
Here’s the thing. I know it looks bleak right now for Jews, and justifiably so. The ugly outpouring of hate and ignorance is a shock to many of us. Ancient blood libels somehow are recrudescent in the modern digital world ( although this says more about the immutable visceral capacity for hatred than anything else). But Jews will be stronger after we get through this gauntlet.
We will pull together again across the world. We will innovate to fill the gaps left by ambivalent allies and fair weather friends. We will create new alliances. We will heal ourselves.
The regressive nature of what we are seeing represents the deliberate manifestation of antisemitism to save corrupt, failing ideologies. I don’t think this is a show of strength by our mortal enemies. It’s a show of desperation.
Let’s use the anger and the sadness and the pain to do great things as a people. It doesn’t matter if the others acknowledge us. It matters that we do the right things for the right reasons in the right way. The right thing is usually the hard thing. We are built to do the hard things. We were chosen to do the hard things. We do not falter. We do not shrink from our destiny.
We are not savages. We lead by example. Those who see the truth will be our true friends. The others are beyond our control. Proud of you guys.
This is what's driving me crazy about the U.S. (where I live): How is the daughter of Tareq Al-Suwaidan allowed in this country? And while I'm at it, I hear that some pro-Palestinian professors cancelled finals so that students could focus on demonstrating. If I were queen I would decree that every student must take finals and hand in papers as previously planned, or forfeit the semester -- without a refund.

Precisely.

Thank you for detailing your plans. The Goyim now know.

One can only hope this will be their undoing, but witnessing the prolonged torture destruction, & mass conversion of innocent minds is excruciating.
Believe me, the Goyim already know.
Yes, at the Passover Seder this year, the analogy of the Mala ha Maved & his relevancy to our post 10/7 crises also hit me.
When is their 15 minutes over?
Hahahah.
Somebody kick them off the world stage... Please!! 😫
Not soon enough!

Islamophobia suggests an irrational fear. There's nothing irrational about it.
"All Jewish kids should be kept safe and we should not have to tolerate antisemitism or bigotry for any Jewish students."
There, Ilhan, I fixed it for you.
