For me - interested as always in ideas and their impact in terms of moral/religious behaviour and related to history and contemporary conditions - this is enormously stimulating. I just wanted to thank you. It shows yet again the way terrible things can nevertheless produce some glimmers of hope and goodness, in this case in reflective thought which could lead to a new vision and way of being/acting for the future. Absolutely fantastic. Oh, and Claire L. Frankel - what you say is totally understandable given what has happened. Not part of the situation, I can scarcely comment. We've all seen the pictures of surrendered hamas fools in their underwear and blindfolded. But what to do with them? They picked up AK- 47s to kill Jewish people and then they decided that they didn't want to die ! Holding them in prison indefinitely would become a burden on the Jewish people. Here is a plan:
1. Kill the leaders. I mean it. Exile will just poison some other unfortunate country's population because these guys are expert at manipulation
2. Test #1: show a full face photo and side photos to each of the former hostages. If they identify any of them as having grabbed them, tortured them, raped them, withheld food or otherwise injured them, shoot or hang that prisoner also
3. Tell the remaining prisoners, "We are going to tattoo you. If we ever find you raising a weapon to Israelis again, we will kill you, no questions asked.
4. Tattoo "Am Yisroel chai" on their neck where everyone can see it
5. Take them to the Syrian border and let them go. After this war is finished.
I think that having an Air Force is absolutely key. I'm not saying it solves all problems, but it is only as a nation that we can militarily defend ourselves. That DOES make a difference -- a huge difference.
