I remember attending a lecture during my college days given by a priest who was also an attorney. The priest talked about the trials of Jesus before the Sanhedrin and Pontius Pilate. He pointed out that “If it was true that Jesus was killed by the Jewish leaders, he would have died by stoning. Crucifixion was not a Jewish punishment—it was a Roman punishment—for the very worst criminals and the very worst offenses against the Roman Empire.”
Thank you for your article, I enjoyed reading your perspective of Jesus as a Jew. If you haven’t, you should read the New Testament Gospel accounts of Jesus’ trial and death starting with his entry to Jerusalem at Passover.
What has happened to Jews, historically, is tragic. I pray we never see anything like the holocaust again. Blessings Rabbi.
Jesus Christ was indeed Jewish as His genealogy in Matthew 1 proves, “And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” (1 John 2:2). Anyone who tries to persecute the Lord’s People is evil and blatantly ignoring Scripture: “I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid.” (Romans 11:1a). “And if some of the branches be broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wert graffed in among them, and with them partakest of the root and fatness of the olive tree; Boast not against the branches. [speaking of Israel as the “natural branches”] But if thou boast, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.” Christ died because of our sin, and anyone who blames the Jewish people alone is ignorant that “…all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23). Please also know that Bible believers such as myself do not have crucifixes (like Catholics do). Jesus is not on the Cross - he said: “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen;…” (Revelation 1:18)
But Jesus was a Palestinian wasn’t he? The present Holy Man in Rome’s predecessor Holy Man Francis (a Jesuit of course), allowed a nativity display in the Vatican with the baby Jesus wrapped in a modern day swastika - a keffiyeh.
Yeshua did not make a public, political declaration of himself as an earthly "King of the Jews," but he accepted a spiritualized version of kingship when questioned by Roman authorities, while the public, non-Jews, and Roman officials actively used and inscribed the title
PILATE did not kill 250,000 Jews. He was a cruel man like most Romans were but 250,000 is like 25% of the entire Jewish population of Judea, which is ridiculous. By the way, when men were crucified they were naked and the cross was not that high, and the nails went through the wrists and through the heel bones of each foot.

Maybe not Jesus “as a Jew,” since that phrase has become so freighted with self-hatred and perfidy, but Jesus—the Jew.
Rabbi, for a moment there I thought you were about to covert!
