Vanessa, there’s no doubt about it. For Israel and for Jews, this isn’t some diplomatic exercise. It’s a question of survival. The rest of the world doesn’t have the same stake in it. They want the problem over and done with, so they keep pretending that if you draw the right borders and create two states, somehow there will be peace.
But Gaza was the proof. Israel left. It removed the settlements. And what happened? Hamas took over, and eventually October 7. And now you want Israel to do essentially the same thing in the West Bank and hope for a different result? Give them another territory from which Israel could be attacked?
The problem is exactly what you say: this is an ideological war. Until that ideology changes, there can’t be a two-state solution. And changing it begins with the children and the schools. It means changing what they're taught, stopping the support that keeps Hamas and other armed groups alive, and overhauling the international institutions that perpetuate the conflict.
Israel ultimately has to take care of itself, because Israel will live with the consequences if everybody else's peace experiment fails. That's the part the rest of the world can afford to forget. Israel can't.

The only problem is you completely ignore the fact that Gaza, post 2005, was and still is regarded under international law as an occupied territory. No air or sea ports allowed, no control over their own border, no control of their imports and exports, no freedom of movement, no control even of the amount of food coming in and the economy was externally controlled to ensure it remained dependent on aid etc. etc. Despite this occupation and suppression the photos of the landscape show that Gaza did many incredible things in those 20 years. They had more hospitals and medical facilities per capita than in most western countries. They had a higher level of education than many western countries. This despite the Israeli penchant for invading every few years to disrupt any long periods of stability. They had to endure ground incursions in 2006, Operation Cast Lead in 2008/9, the major ground invasion Protective Edge in 2014 and now the almost complete obliteration of the entire region since 2023 which has still not ended.
A two state solution is most certainly out the window now. The only possible peace is for the Zionist project to admit it failed and shut up shop for good.
From your post one would never know that Gaza also shares a border with Egypt. Why aren’t you asking why they never opened the border? Allowed freedom of movement? Allowed them to control their exports and imports? Put the focus on everything the surrounding Arab nations have not done for Gaza and your whole nonsensical narrative falls apart.
