Shai Davidai stood up to Columbia but he left because they treated him so shamefully. Thank you for this piece - it is 100% spot on. Tragic for American Jews and so sad for the country.
Wacky is not the word to use. Wacky infers harmless and just stupid. Academia has been Left to Far Left for years in ideology and has ramped it up , especially in the Humanities and Social Sciences. It is a concerted and evil effort to brainwash students in racist Jew hating ideology and the concerted effort to dehumanize and demonize Jews, while cheering when Jews get killed by radicals and jihadists. That is not wacky, but unbelievably evil, no different than Stalin's attempts to purge and kill the Jewish intelligentsia, as well as the Nazis' campaign to commit genocide on the Jews.
Thank you so much for your wonderful/honest essay!!!!!......it's utterly painful to know what's going on our Ivy League Universities (and these supposed to be the most intelligent people?)...... Am Israel Chai.......
Yes, and it's important that everyone, esp Jewish people, know and accept this. Judge them by their deeds not their flowery words: our Social Justice madrassas (much like their Marxist predecessors) want to harm not help Jews.
And it's the same radical, hate-filled academia which spawned Charlie Kirk's assassin. They are turning out a generation of revolutionaries and psychopaths.
The American Jews should establish their own self- funded universities in the pursuit of excellence and merit in academics. Its time for some pro-active leadership to save this generation of aspiring Jewish youth in our perplexing and threatening times.
I agree. And I had to clear my eyes and look again when I saw that of all places, Brandeis was dealing with SJP/encampment/"Free Palestine" bullshit. Insane.
Absolutely. I am also a part of the Jewish Classical Education movement, which is an attempt to do precisely this, although we are beginning with K-12 schools first. But there is a lot of opportunity here for better alternatives.
Unfortunately, it's clear that the greater part of administrators and faculty are virulently anti Israel and anti American so I expect more of the same from the universities in coming months and years.
Very insightful. What the universities want is to create a racial utopia that unfortunately has no room for Jews—or anyone else who does not assimilate or convert to the new secular creed of multicultural humanitarianism. What is still very strange to me is that they make plenty of room for Islamist radicalism, which is totally at odds with their professed values. I guess it’s a numbers thing: there are around 2 billion Muslims, but only 15 million Jews. Since university enrollments are driven by demographics, it could just be cynical calculation about who you can afford to piss off.
Of course there have always been quotas but they were disguised as selecting students according to geography. I hope American Jews will cool to these schools but fear their need for wealth and power will win out.
Hello Dana… I am not trying to speak for Alison, but the way I understood her words was as follows: Many high-achieving (or high aspiring) parents want their children to attend Ivy League schools because of the name recognition, academic esteem, advantages in hiring, and subsequent professional benefits that typically accrue to those graduating from such schools. So, the desire to see their child gain those benefits, might cloud the parents, as well as the students, judgement in considering alternative institutions that might be less accepting or tolerant of antisemitism. Perhaps there is more to it, but that is how I understood it.
If that is what she means, she's actually correct. It just that the word choice and way it is being expressed is so similar to sooooo much we hear from haters; i.e, "Jews only care about money and power and taking over the world and controlling everything..." You know what I mean?
Yes, of course I know what you mean Dana - and it grieves me and angers me any time I hear those sentiments expressed in one way or another. I am estranged from my oldest friend, who once put his life at risk to save mine, because of his persistent innuendos to that effect, as well as his continued sharing of materials that were obliquely antisemitic. I know what you mean, and am very sensitive to such slights myself, no matter how they are couched. But, we do have to be very careful not to allow ourselves es to ‘fill in the blanks’ when we honestly don’t know a persons heart. That is what the ultimate enemy of all mankind, but especially the Chosen People, would encourage us to do. And the only way to avoid falling into his traps, is to show a person grace; to always assume the best, until we know for certain what was intended.
you are correct. Well stated. And I didn't make assumptions, which is why I asked for clarification. I'll assume the best until or unless she says otherwise.

Thank you for your kind words.

The Ivies are a CRT DEI and anti Semitic driven sewer where narratives have displaced merit and the search for truth

Yes, I am unfortunately working on a new piece about this now.
Thank you for writing this, it so clearly hits the nail right on the head.
Thank you.
This is an incredibly depressing essay, and it's true down to the word.
Sickening. And hard to really grasp.
Thank you. It's hard to write about these things, but they have to be written about.

Yes, I'd like clarification, too.
