Having heard his “explanation” it seems Ed Sheeran was comfortable letting Macklemore speak on his behalf. He is not innocent - he is a coward letting others do his dirty bidding. Save your passion and your morality for other artists who deserve it and move on from Ed Sheeran. His music is good. His soul is not.
Sheeran broke his silence and made things worse. He tried to be the overseer of a balanced response condemning all the violent deaths. But then he labeled Israel’s response “disproportionate” placing him with the ignorant masses who toss around words that have specific definitions under the international law of armed conflict. This ignorant jingoism is the fuel for antisemitic hate. He’s joined an infamous club.
Purely out of self-interest, too. He can afford to lose Jewish fans. Very calculated. He really doesn’t care about politics. He cares about his pocket book.
Sheeran is a coward. No better description. And a wimp. Two descriptions, same thing. But it needs to be said. Over and over. Coward, wimp, jellyfish. That’s you, Ed. Cold Play? Done with that.
Thank you for putting into words what I have been feeling. It’s heartbreaking to watch them fall, one by one their true character is revealed. “Not him/her as well” has happened so many times these last 3+ years that it actually starting to become routine and I no longer feel the same level of disappointment. I’m grateful they have revealed how hollow they are, so I can no longer look at them as special humans. They simply represent some of the worst in humanity.
How do we get the rest of the believers in "from the river to the sea" to read (and understand) this? How do we get them to understand the basic history and truth here? That is our challenge. Most of all, how do we get our fellow Jews who shrug this off, or actively agree, to volunteer to be first in line at the camps?
Sheeran is either naive or an accessory in this hate crime against the Jewish people. He knew what was happening after the first show and only acted when his $10-100 million dollar tour was going up in smoke.
A quote from Winston Churchill pertinent on many levels in this conflict in America and Israel. “ Appeasement Is feeding the crocodile, hoping he will eat you last.”
Excellent response! I was disheartened when I heard Sheeran give his blurb, I like his music and him but will never support what he’s saying , he blew it. I only hope that he rethinks a recants. No longer a fan!
Before I wrote this, I checked. It was known at outset that “MackleLess”would be his opening act. And we all know what a POS his is. So, I have to wonder who didn’t expect this? The art world — from literature to the movies to the stage — has become increasingly narrow since October 7.
During my lifetime, musicians and other performing artists have often expressed political views at awards nights and concerts. This is the first time, however, that I can remember, that one of them has actually become a threat or endangerment to young children/fans attending their concerts. It’s completely unacceptable. Declare yourselves beforehand. Palestine/Israel has produced the hottest, most extreme levels of dissent among people that I’ve ever felt. Ed, you knew that. You knew your viewpoint could have instigated Jew hatred those 2 nights and been responsible for the death of an innocent child or children had a mob mentality erupted in a section of the audience. That’s on you.
Why, oh why do performers think we are remotely interested in their purical views? All because they have a stage, does that give them the right to harangue their audience?
I found the account if the Jewish mother protecting her daughter deeply moving.

If people do not want to listen, no amount of history or truth-telling will make any difference. This is why history repeats itself.

I think the problem stems from their belief in their celebrity and society’s devotion to celebrity. It is so shallow.
It certainly is. I can't help but feel sorry for the pressures they choose to live under.
