Thane, what amazes me is the irony. Thirty years ago, I would have assumed that progressives, the LGBTQ community, and especially the Democratic Party would be among Israel's strongest supporters. Instead, many have turned against the one Jewish state while often ignoring the realities of Hamas and radical Islam.

What is even more surprising is that politicians today can gain support by taking increasingly anti-Israel positions. A generation ago, that would have been almost unthinkable in mainstream American politics.

This didn't happen overnight. It has been building quietly for decades. The people many of us thought would stand with Israel are now often leading the opposition. It truly is a topsy-turvy world.

It is ironic and maddening, Frederick. You have right. The very people who should be getting behind the hippies of southern Israel instead chose women- and gay-hating terrorists.

Another irony (among the many): if I understand correctly, some of the Israeli products the Park Slope idiots have voted to boycott are made by companies owned or co-owned by Israeli Arabs, and which employ Muslim, Druze, Christian and Jewish workers. They should rename the Coop "The Gang Who Couldn't Boycott Straight."

The irony they still use Israeli technology. Selective stupidity.

Today I see news in Australia that a advertisement in Facebook , seeking members in a share house says:

“Interests: tea, rice, beans … clean kitchen benches … music, poetry. Dislikes: Zio scum, fascists, Vic Pol, Islamophobes, Zio apologists, gas industry lobbyists. “No swerfs/terfs/Zionists/cops etc thanks very much.”

We know exactly what you mean. So much for the tofu lovers. We gave peace every chance — now you haters can lie in the bed you made.

What could have drawn them? Stupidity, colossal ignorance and self important arrogance. - and of course, the US “educational” system.

and the propaganda propagated by mainstream media, the growth of Muslim communities in western countries, and the huge investment 'behind the scenes' by Qatar in funding education within many universities.

...the old, good, zoological antisemitism

By boycotting they betray their own ignorance of Israel, specifically its diversity. The population is not only Jewish; it includes Arabs, Druze and Christians. These groups have roles in the production of the boycotted products and are thus affected.

As my MIT grad former nephew turned niece patiently and in their most loving way explained, trans and gay folk see palestinians as oppressed, just as they see themselves as oppressed. So as fellow (not sure the term is PC appropriate in this context, but don't care) oppressed folk, the trans and gay folk side with the palestinians. They do not see Jews as oppressed, and they see Israelis as the oppressors of palestinians. Despite my best efforts I have been unable to open the eyes of my otherwise brilliant nibling, who has lost the ability to reason, apply logic, or apply critical thinking. It is like talking to the wall, a loving wall, but still a wall.

The acronym for MIT should now read as "Morons In Training"....

I wonder what the reaction of the leftists in Brooklyn and across the United States will be when the number of violent Islamists reaches the critical mass that has been achieved already across Western Europe? What will be their reaction when their friends and relatives are beheaded or stabbed to death, as has occurred in the last few days to two absolutely innocent men in Belfast, Northern Ireland and Southampton, England, respectively? One thing is for certain: the Democratic Party has been captured by a demented and depraved movement which, if they prevail, will result in the national suicide of the USA.

It seems the co-op didn't learn from the SodaStream boycott that cost 500 Palestinians good jobs, but why think about that when it's all about masking the guilt of their rotted souls. This is a virus that has been spreading since October 7th, and is part of a much larger plan by nefarious actors. I hope the complaint that was filed gets some traction, but it's New York so I have my doubts.

That was something I wanted to include if I had more that 1,200 word leeway. Thank you for knowing about that incredible anecdote.

You're welcome. I just couldn't resist.

Thane Rosenbaum bravely speaks truth. How do we know that? Because he has been vilified by countless leftist jews who hate America and Israel.

Thank you for acknowledging this unpleasantry.

The point that seems to have been missed here is that the Progessive Left was systematically infiltrated by the ghouls of the Marxist hard left. They gradually took over leadership of every organization in America that had more than a dozen members and set it on a new course. The new agenda continues to pretend that it's still all about human rights, and the collective is too ignorant or indifferent to even notice that they have been hijacked. Peace and love, bro.

“astonishing amount of hubris it requires for a grocery store that sells only a few Israeli products to believe that the world values its opinion”. Unfortunately, it requires little hubris. It’s exactly how all this is supposed to work. Death by a thousand cuts(at so little cost). And the world today reflects just how impactful these ‘non-events’ are having on the Jewish community.

I am older than the modern state of Israel. The Left has gotten everything wrong in my lifetime and that now inlcudes emabracing Islam and going back to its KKK Jew hating days.

Confederates, Progressives, Hippies, Communists - the names don't matter - they all are full of resentment, hate and envy.

"Recently, the members of the Park Slope Food Coop overwhelmingly voted to boycott Israeli products and to formally join the ranks of the BDS Movement."

I visited the Park Slope Food Coop once in 1979. I found it creepy. All these upwardly mobile suburban newcomers thinking that now they were hip Brooklynites and going "back to the land."

That sort of thing is still happening, only now they're buying up Victorians in Ditmas Park. And making a virtue of sneering at Jews. Make no mistake: Anti-Zionists are antisemites.

I grew up in Windsor Terrace, before it was colonized by Park Slope wannabes. We were three generations in that house. Maybe some of our old neighbors didn't like Jews, but if they didn't they didn't make smug political noises about it.

As for Bernie Sanders, like a lot of Brooklynites he fled Brooklyn when the going got tough in the late 1960s. Some man of the people! Some fighter! Afraid of getting mugged. But he was safe up there in the green hills of Vermont.

The rest of us nailed our first-floor leaded casements shut and installed bars on the basement windows. And stayed.

Yes. The Farm in Tennessee, which was the largest hope back to the land coming in the country in the early 70s, flew a Palestinian flag at is entrance after October 7th for maybe 2 years

Ironic, I posted a comment yesterday that the left has become so illiberal, intolerant and hateful , today they would cancel Woodstock. Because Hendrix performed the Star Spangled Banner with his teeth, which was disrespectful, making it appear that Black people use metal wire to get the barbecued rib meat that's stuck between their teeth, the anthem is a dog whistle for slavery and he was an airman , likely dropping bombs for the Nazi genocidal apartheid Zionists to wipe out the innocent Palestinians. They initially thought it was Bob " Death To The IDF" Vylan on the roster, but realized it was the fascist Zionist white Jew boy who culturally appropriated the 'fro. Country Joe and the Fish? " One, Two, Three, Islamophobia is good for me", and that Indian Hindu Nationalist scum, Ravi Shankar. That privileged white MAGA bitch, Janis Joplin ripping off Etta James. Just another Zionist oppressor!
