If Mamdani wins, we can expect more Mamdanis running for office all over the country--because the Democrats will promote and support ANYONE they think can win. The bigger the margin by which he wins, the bigger the support will be to run more Mamdanis for office. We should focus on that nightmare scenario first and foremost (and so should non-Jews who don't want the USA turning into England. But the non-Jews won't because most of them are still thinking this is all about "the Joos." It isn't).

I’m not sure if I can agree with you. The fact that Mamdani has gotten even this far is a very clear indication that NYC’s status as a major center of secular liberalism has already broken down. Whether he wins or not isn’t really the point. We now know that a plurality, if not outright majority, of NYers are not particularly bothered by his barely veiled antisemitism. There is no good side to that, irrespective of our feelings or the ultimate final outcome of this election.

That’s an interesting perspective, thank you, and in fact - one I share. My main point was actually about how we need to prepare for either outcome, which I think sometimes gets lost in the broader debate about how we feel about it.

Which is why, knowing what is coming , we need to be prepared in every aspect of our lives.

It is, after all, that day and that time.

Today, Bibi has ordered a new stance for the entire military, and called for both enlisted and volunteers to increase substantially, and to work as a unit, not separate groups.

It would seem to me Bibi feels as I do, and so does Don. And it becomes increasingly apparent, so does Our Creator.

I wholeheartedly agree with you about being prepared. Unfortunately, what we're seeing from our leadership (in Israel and in America) is reactionary, not pre-emptive. In addition, this can't remain a problem just for Israel and Jews to resolve. It will impact everyone, not just us.

You nailed it. The liberalism has left but what remains is the Zombie corpse infected with a dangerous Socialist virus. This will not fly in White

Christian America. Introduction of a 101 level college course on The History of Islamic Attacks on western Civilization will appear. It would be an eye opener for all the budding young Socialists.

We Jews are resilient. 80 years ago they had just finished killing million of us. Today we are the power in the Middle East. Less then 20million Jews left and we have kicked the crap out of every single Arab nation.

And seized Admiral Greta’s Navy and kicked her back to Sweden.

I am guessing that his win (it is now Thursday) will give certain people a feeling of permission, more than ever, to persecute Jews in the city. And he talks about doing away with anti-terror task forces?!? I fear for Jewish businesses, as well as individuals walking in the street. I have no desire to visit New York until this craziness is over.

Your fear is rational. My thoughts (and hopes)are that the nation as a whole will be revolted by attacks in this Muslim infused city. It could create a thunderstorm of disgust and weaken the new mayors strength and diminish his base. I’m from a holocaust family and was taught to always look over my shoulder even when my rational American mind said I was safe in this country. That said I believe moderate Muslims will realize they can’t let the hatred they ran from be allowed to grow here. Radical Islam doesn’t trust them either.

Shalom.

If Mamdani wins: Flee

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/1-million-new-yorkers-say-they-will-flee-new-york-city-if-mamdani-wins-todays-mayoral-race

Some people never learn and are stubborn.

Mamdani is telling or has told everyone and especially Jews exactly who he is either in the campaign or in prior communications. The Left calls him a Socialist - The Right a Communist.

That is mainly correct labeling, but he is also a Jihadist.

The article states that whites, older folks Sliwa and Cuomo voters and people from Staten Island are the most apt to leave NYC.

If nothing lese, at least think about getting the hell out of there. His winning tells you the vector that NYC is currently on. It is a terrible one.

Your essay made me incredibly uncomfortable which is a good thing. It is making me think and feel, but mostly think. The sly fox has been fomenting in the hen house for decades. Statistically we vote in repudiation of our own self interest to be viewed as the 'good Jew', the 'loving Jew' rather than consider that which extends beyond the tips of our own noses. We deny our own humaness to fit in, not stand out (too much). We cringe when a fellow Jew is in the news for malfeasance of any kind, and kvell when a fellow Jew changes lives for the better. I'm not sure this happens amongst other ethnic/religious groups, but it makes us that much more human. I will be who I've always been, an unapologetic Jew who feels more drawn to her religion than she's been in 50 years.

Joanna Landau's avatar

I appreciate that you recognize that feeling uncomfortable about it is a GOOD thing - because it means we need to be active, think deeply (not too emotionally) and prepare for what's coming. And yes, being unapologetic about who we are is key to our longterm existence.

Thank you Joanna for such a wise strategy! Ive been trying to get a similar message out for decades.

How can I /we help elevate your message? We need you now at a time when Israel can redefine itself after the war. And American Jews can choose to see themselves in a new way as well. This requires a continual narrative, workshops and stories to change hearts and minds.

Thank you, Sally, I really appreciate that. The best way to help amplify this kind of thinking at this time is to share my Substack - Reputation Nation (https://joannalandau.substack.com/) with others who care about these issues. The more people who share and engage thoughtfully with this approach, the stronger the collective shift becomes. I'm also working on setting up something more tangible, which I'll be sharing in the coming weeks and will invite to follow!

I have learned that, when given the opportunity to delegitimize and attack Jews, the world gladly lines up and says “Me!Me! Me! I hate Jews and have been waiting for this permission”.

A smart, practical Jew will see this for what it is: a need to arm up.

If Mad-Mani wins, every single NYC Jew should make alliyah at least outside NYC, boycott the city economically, and refuse to do business there. Make NYC pay or others will follow suit. Mad-mani voters will be glad to see you go.

All that will be left are “Jews for Mad-Mani”, a tribe as insane as “Jews for Hitler”, who deserve whatever Mad-Mani and his brownshirts have in store for them.

Zohran Hamas Mad-Damny won. This sets off a foreboding alarm for the veritable Pandora's Box that's in store as well as a formidable precident for an increasing number of Islamists taking office in the USA. The word INFILTRATION comes to mind, & this is not nearly being a dramatic. I for one am not calm & relaxed. Rather than lose our collective wits, we sane Jews who recognized & warned about Mad-damny's extremist identification & nefarious inclinations need to catch our breath, assess our surroundings realistically, & be prepared to react &/or counteract calmly. While there are no guarentees of how his reign will unfold, it's quite possible that a percentage of those who voted for him (religious, a-religious Jews, liberal Jews & non-Jews alike) will grow disillusioned. With all my heart, I hope that the Jewish segment that enthusiastically supported him will finally recognize his fundamental hate & disavowal of them as Jewish souls - --regardless of their degree of Jewish identification. Realize it's not only "the Jooz," either ---And how illogical is it to embrace someone who HATES you?!

AM ECHAD, Jeannette N.F.

I'm not relaxed either. This is not the outcome we had hoped for - but as you said, the best way to take it from here is to catch our breath and not respond emotionally. I very much hope the communal leadership will conduct the debrief I suggested, so that the response is effective. I also hope they won't view this as purely a Jewish issue, and reach out to those who view this development as a grave danger to NYC and America to form alliances and take next steps together.
