Nachum, a perfect 🎯
This needs to be made into a play. Pronto. There is another play out there called The Zionists ( if not familiar look it up). Many have raved about it. The characters ( a Jewish family) were caricatured in my and others' opinions in a cleverly slanted manner. A compare and contrast would make for an interesting college class, assuming professor and students would even read Nachums masterpiece and not personally attack the few zionists on campus
It was very brave of Nachum to enter the ring of knowing to provide a master class for perfect definition of cognitive dissonance. All feelings against one of facts. Brilliant!
I’m in awe. Up against the worst kind of a pedantic posse. Ignorant fools using their spoon fed tropes to try and gang rape the Jew. Thank you for representing our people with moral clarity in this ongoing war where we win the physical and righteous part and somehow are losing the PR. I wonder how much of this effete intellectually bereft mob were Jewish? To me, that is the most disturbing depravity of this era we are living through. It’s also interesting that what’s happening in the world is again a reaffirmation of the need and legitimacy of our Jewish State of Israel.
It wasn't necessarily a *real* dinner party .. this might've just been a perfectly apt imaginary dinner party, where all the roles & conversations reflected real life.
If you wonder how Israel is "somehow losing the PR", simply look at some aerial photos of Gaza. And then ask what portion of the population of Israel supports a Gaza with a government led by Palestinians. (Not this year. Or next. But some time in the indefinite future.
If you wonder how Israel is somehow losing the PR, simply look at some aerial photos replete with missiles being fired from tunnels beneath buildings and booby traps set by Hamas in every building - and ask yourself why the missiles, terrorists and booby traps never make the cut into western reporting. And ask yourself whether you would support a government led by terrorists who fire missiles at you and repeatedly affirm their desire to destroy you.
I don't "wonder how Israel is somehow losing the PR." I can see why by seeing all the demolished buildings , or looking at polls that indicate less than 20 percent of Israeli Jews support Israel and Gaza as being two independent states.
We’re losing the PR for one simple reason. The antisemitism that has always lay dormant for a certain period of time, then boom. There were no bombed out buildings, no civilian deaths or maiming in Gaza in October 8th when the world was mobilized by the Qataris, the Left and whoever has Jew hatred in their DNA. The Double Standards, Delegitimization, and Demonization are the symptoms, not the etiology.
No, that's simply not correct. Yes, obviously there's antisemitism. But simply looking at aerial footage of Gaza shows what a tremendous amount of damage has occurred. And then simply reading or listening to Jewish Israelis-- even especially those in leadership positions--and there seems to be virtually no support for Palestinians in Gaza ever running their own country.
Aerial photos of Germany at the end of WWII… 600,000 German women and children killed in Anglo-American bombing of Nazi Germany.
This was a reflection of the binary the Nazis presented to the world -- Defeat us utterly, or kneel before us. The free world chose the former, but at immense cost.
No different here. Hamas, and Palestinianism as a whole is not negotiating or fighting over boundaries or borders -- it is a binary -- Defeat us or we will kill you all.
All the moral blame for all the death and suffering stems from that psychotic, sadistic, maximalist position.
Holding out "recognition" as some theoretical cherry on top to be affixed after they get all their demands met is not a good-faith negotiation.
No good-faith negotiation in the history of the world has proceeded under those conditions.
Let me know when they START from recognition and negotiate in good-faith FROM THERE.
If you think I ever suggested that Israel negotiate with Hamas, you're very mistaken.
My suggestion is in fact that Israel set up a government that specifically only includes candidates that have been pre-approved by Israel.
PS The type of low- civilian-casualty warfare that is possible today was simply not possible in WW2, when a bomb landing within 1000 feet of a target was considered very good.
I'm sorry Mark but you are over simplifying. It's true that precision bombing was not possible 80 years ago but it is also true that the RAF and USAF deliberately targeted civilians on several occasions, most notably at Dresden in February 1945. There was a good reason why Bomber Command did not get a memorial until 2012 -and it has been regularly vandalised since.
You may add the American strategy beginning in October 1944 when the B29 came into service and the Americans had taken Saipan and the Marianas in the Pacific in hard battle’s which brought us and the heavy B29’s within range of all of Japan. We proceeded to fire bomb Tokyo mercilessly at the same time as we were trying to finish off the Nazis by bringing home the war to the Germans by bombing Berlin to rubble. No one was complaining.
Now, Israel suffers the worst, most barbaric, unprovoked Pogrom against defenseless Jews since the Holocaust (which is denied or whitewashed by the likes of Tucker Carlson and his ilk) and Israel defends itself. Yes, millions of Gazans are displaced, but, with warnings by leaflets and phone calls, the population with the enemy combatants, Hamas, completely embedded. There is no doubt innocent civilians have died and lives have been turned upside down. However, independent military experts including urban war expert John Spencer has stated irrefutably that the percentage of civilians killed by Israel is the lowest in the history of warfare. Yet, the obscene lies of Genocide bandied about completely inverts the truth that it is Islamists stated goal time and again to this very day is the elimination of the Jewish people.
War is hell and that is where the enemies of the Jewish homeland are invited to attend.
Instead look at steak photos of Gaza from before October 7. It's quite a beautiful city on the Mediterranean. Not a bit of it looks like an open air prison. All you have to do is not invade and butcher you're neighbors and you can have nice things
Yes, and Berlin would have remained a beautiful city in Germany if the Nazis hadn't invaded Poland and the Soviet Union.
But the fact is that there were more than 2 million people living in Gaza on October 7th, and the vast majority had no idea it was even going to happen, let alone were involved in planning or carrying out the attack.
In fact, on October 7, 2023, about one-third of the population of Gaza was under 14, and likely about 22 percent were under 20 years old. It's nonsensical to tell them, “if you don't attack and butcher your neighbors, you can have nice things” because there weren't any children under 10 years old attacking and butchering their neighbors.
The one lady I know goes to weekly Palestinian protests does it because she thinks it is cool. When told gays are discriminated in Islam she had to rethink her stance.
Oooosh, that was a story with presence!🥵 Thank you sir for this text,I’m sitting hanging over my breakfast table and so mentally exhausted and drained empty of thoughts and words. What the hell can we say who watch from afar, safe and comfortable..? I promise my blood pressure sky rocket and my head feels twice its size of frustration and anger. Those people in the ”court” are the worst, most despicable creatures I can imagine. So full of self rightousness, imagining being morally superior for all these empty talking points, word sallads, vocsbulars and absolutely ignorant of the topic up. How is it possible to handle that shit storm without losing focus and just smack some nose bones..? If this is an authentic story, then you are a master of self control💙🇮🇱🤍🇮🇱💙
I had an argument with my aunt along those lines -- and as I was pointing out some facts which rendered her position entirely moot -- she raised her voice and declared, and I quote: “I don't care about facts -- I just want the killing of children to stop."
This was 2 years ago or so, and I just retreated into stunned silence.
Silence at times seems to be the only option.I find myself wondering though if a well phrased question to end on might be worth the effort. - “What relationship does honesty have with peace?” Might be one that seeks to be evading your aunt. Even if it has no discernible effect on her, it might help us.
Am I the only person reading this who keeps thinking about Jeremiah’s decentralized temple system (31) and Ezekiel 9? Having written spiritual conversation out of mainstream thinkers, modern thinkers inevitably tend to assume that this all comes down to an inability to reason and honor empirical truth. But what if that is ultimately rooted in a spiritual on/off switch that some people literally have turned off?
This (article, play, Oscar caliber movie?) is beyond brilliant! Is there anyone left in New Yorkistan who would produce it and give it a much deserved Broadway run?
PS - your content is outstanding and this post in particular finally convinced me to upgrade to a paid subscription.
I’m not Jewish but I have some dear friends who are. I’m sorry to say that sometimes they sound as bad (dumb) as the “polite people” described in the essay.
Bravo! It’s an interesting psychological phenomenon that wokes lose all ability to reason when it comes to Israel. But it’s not only the wokes. I was banned from a Substack for simply refuting the “replacement theology” heresy.
One point to make: why so many Gazans died was because in their elaborate tunnel system they never permitted civilians to shelter there. They used the population as human shields. So who is responsible for their deaths?
Brilliant literary form. THe only quibble is with "My answer is that war ends when the aggressor can no longer wage it or decides the cost is unbearable" Who is the aggressor is not the point and could be subjective. Should be "one side". And since Hamas does not have any cost beyond which the war is unbearable, and they will wage it to the last man, we have to say, since we are no longer being polite, that they must be EXTERMINATED. Or else the Jews will be exterminated by the Jihadists. They are worse than the Nazis and the Japanese, who did have such a threshold cost (and the Japanese were not even genocial towards Jews, but that's not the point).
Of course the Palestinians are not Hamas, even though many supported them, some out of fear, some out of hope. After the extermination can come a Marshall-like rehabilitation and reconstruction plan, where peace and love can be taught and practiced.
And there’s the difficult piece. Israel, as the bigger and stronger party, is seen as responsible for unilaterally solving the problem. The tacit reasoning is that Israel has more power, and therefore it has the ability to bring this to conclusion.
This lacks understanding that peace requires two sides in cooperation. Conflict is unilateral, however and can be initiated by any party at any time. Power has nothing to do with it, the smallest and weakest party is able to initiate conflict any time it’s physically able to do so, and the biggest and strongest party is unable to prevent them from making that choice.
The only way the stronger party can unilaterally prevent conflict is through restraining or destroying the weaker party. Israel is expected to neither destroy nor restrain though, but still find a way to prevent conflict by virtue of being the stronger party. It’s logically impossible; no matter how weak they are in any factual sense, unrestrained factions have the ability to drive conflict down to the last person standing.
The Nazis weren't "EXTERMINATED". They were replaced by a government that was sufficiently committed to rejecting Nazi ideology, and committed to democratic government, that the government wasn't dangerous to its people and it's neighbors.
Fair enough, but they were disarmed. And that could only happen when enough of them were dead. The new government could never have arisen otherwise. Same with Hamas: unless most of those guys are gone, and the remaining ones disarmed, there is no prospect for a new government to promote peace and prosperity.
I agree. The very difficult trick is to find replacements for Hamas, who are committed to democracy and peace, and can be supported enough that Hamas can be prevented from returning to power.
There are apparently over 500,000 Palestinians in Gaza over the age of 25 at present. It seems to me Israel should be able to find enough peaceful Muslims within that group to run the government of Gaza.
I’m not sure that this really happened or if this is a fictional account of all that is cliches and memes. What is apparent, whether non-fiction or fiction, is the setting and the players. All upperclass, upper crust, uptown, white professionals who most likely were Mamdani supporters who either made or inherited their wealth. Their moral superiority and moral certainty is over the top. Limousine Liberals who espouse the leftist position of the day.
Their idea of “moral clarity” is to never let facts get in the way of their “moral narrative” and who’ll be the 1st to say that they have “Jewish friends”.
I'm getting old and this was the very first thing which told me where this was going. Excellent writing!
I have learned through all my years and experiences that when someone uses "conversation(s)" what they really mean is they are going to attempt to school the opposition about how they are wrong. It is a disingenuous way to sound fair and wise, but is intended to attack the person(s).
I don't know if this was a fictional story or one based on an actual dinner party, but I liked it.
Thank you for the information and the insightful peek.
1) Greatest thing I've read on the entire history of world conflict with Jews. 2) Did this actually happen, I must know! 3) I would love to have all of his great retorts at my fingertips with such wit, elan and accuracy! 4) The surrounding explanations of the decor, food, etc. were equally brilliant.
I suspect far too many of us remain silent in the face of these enlightened people who claim moral authority in situations like this. I am not racist or anti Jewish they say.. but... And just maybe parading around in every Free Palestine march makes them experts ... but then again maybe not !! Lol thanks but no thanks, I'm suddenly not hungry now and if you'll excuse me I'm done !!

For comedy, tragedy or fiction

Yes sir
I was thinking the same thing! Dinner With Deniers.
"My Dinner With the Whack-a-Moles."
Whack-a-Mole dinner with Deniers
"Look Who's Invited to Dinner!"
My thoughts exactly. This is meant to be performed. This calls out all of the racism, present stereotypes, and massive ignorance.
There’s hope for us yet! Thank G-d for your intelligence and talent.
Same thoughts !!
exactly my thoughts .... will look up your recommendation.
Totally. “My Dinner with Andreawitz”
Abigail’s Party Redux…..
This was an educational tour de force. Should be made into a play and produced on Broadway.
Kind of reminds me of the ancient debate called The Disputation.

Yes and imsgine the protesters who would have fits( ot worse). Guess who's Coming to Dinner 2.0?
Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, 2026 version. I love it.
The intensity of their protest would reveal how much of a threat they consider the work
Bingo
There was a great movie reference! “Guess who’s coming to dinner?”
This should definitely be made into a production
The one lady I know goes to weekly Palestinian protests does it because she thinks it is cool. When told gays are discriminated in Islam she had to rethink her stance.
One down. Ten million to go
Sadly, in the New York political climate of today, I’m not sure you could find anyone willing to actually produce it.
..and act in it…
Then go outside of New York, way off Broadway. “Build it and they will come“
Oooosh, that was a story with presence!🥵 Thank you sir for this text,I’m sitting hanging over my breakfast table and so mentally exhausted and drained empty of thoughts and words. Absolutely loved the last line. On point!!
Brilliant and brave!!!!! My favorite statement: This is why these conversations are impossible. You keep retreating into facts.”. Thank you!!!!!!!!

A perfect statement, for sure - although I would most expect it from the mouth of a MAGAt, not a Democrat.
But sanity and morality have somehow been inverted over this particular topic.
You were, unknowingly, one of the characters in this play.
Am I the only person reading this who keeps thinking about Jeremiah’s decentralized temple system (31) and Ezekiel 9? A+
People with no facts are a challenge to debate

Love the New Yorkistan metaphor. Apt depiction.
Nice comment, but would have preferred New Yorkabad, 'stan being a country, e..g Britainistan, Londonabad.
Such a great essay.

A portrait of likely Mamdani voters.

EXTERMINATION ABSOLUTELY THEY ARE LIKE BEDBUGS YOU CAN NOT LEAVE ONE ALIVE
IF G-d had NOT been disobeyed GAZA would have always remained Jewish --
same with JUDEA AND SAMARIA

Or maybe just Asperger's?
A joke is supposed to be funny.
