I recently heard about a Jewish woman in Michigan who said that she was going to vote for El Sayid because she was voting “as an American, not as a Jew.” My response to her would be “Oh, you think that you are an American? That’s nice. I think that I’m an American too. But it doesn’t matter what we think. 90 years ago there were 6 million people who thought that they were Germans, or Poles, or other European nationalities. 10 years after that they were nothing but ashes.”

You could also say that people who care about America shouldn’t vote for Muslim terrorist supporters. I don’t understand how this is so complicated to the wood crickets

I don't understand my fellow American Jews at all. What are the liberal values of the dsa? Take over the means of production, defund police, open prisons, boycott Israel, tax the rich and Middle class, open borders, give priority to people of color rather than by merit? These are things they have openly supported. The problem you have is catching up. The old school democrats have not denounced any dsa policies. There is in my mind no more dems as we knew them. Please stop pondering and get with reality.

As one brought up in a strong Jewish Democratic household...the world has changed, and not for the good. Therefore, you need to vote on the candidates stand on the issues and not on the party.

Eric R.'s avatar

The Democrats want us in boxcars and ovens. That is all you need to know.

gmfeld's avatar

"The Democrats?" Oh, please, a gross overstatement to brand the entire party. I call bullshit. You don't think there are Nazis and antisemites in the GOP? The US party that has historically housed antisemites. Do I need to introduce you to Paul Gossar? Marjorie Taylor Green. Tucker Carlson. Steven King from Iowa. I could go on and on. We have enough issues to deal with, we don't need this kind of exaggerated BS.

Les Vitailles's avatar

Marjorie Taylor Green: primaried by President Trump

Tucker Carlson: called a "complete kook" by President Trump and booted out of MAGA

Thomas Massie: primaried by President Trump.

The only exaggerated BS is the one trying to pretend that there is a single Democratic leader willing to criticize even one prominent antisemitc Democrats, of which there is an embarrassingly large assortment to choose from.

gmfeld's avatar

I've already responded to that and I'll say it again: as to each of MTG, Carlson, and Massie, Trump "booted" them only after each of them first broke with Trump over the Epstein files and Iran. Who do you think you're fooling with that Trump BS?

MFritz Friedman's avatar

Gmfeld - In your quest to label BS, I’ve got one unexaggerated question for you — why are you even reading a blog entitled The Future of Jewish?

gmfeld's avatar

Let's be clear: giving Trump credit for booting MGT, Massie, and Carlson from the GOP is backwards BS. Gotta call it when you see it.

Liberal Don's avatar

yes, support the Likud and its slaughter of the Palestinains.....

Eric R.'s avatar

Easy. Vote Republican because we’ll keep you alive. Everything else is secondary

gmfeld's avatar

Last I looked, the Nazi Paul Gossar was in the GOP. He's just one example. And BTW, how many Jewish Republicans are in the US Senate? Shouldn't take you too long to count to zero,

Shaked Koplewitz's avatar

Ted Cruz stood up to antisemitism in his own party. I can't imagine the likes of Schumer or Lander doing it.

Liberal Don's avatar

and one never asks why there is antisemitism.......

Adam's avatar

Where are the daily rallies calling for the annihilation of and violent attacks against the Muslims, Chinese, and Russians?

Your self loathing obsession is a sickness

Les Vitailles's avatar

Because Democrats will bend over backwards to try to justify some part of the antisemitism taking over their party.

Les Vitailles's avatar

All the prominent antisemites in the Republican Party were publicly expelled from the MAGA movement by President Trump in person: Marjorie Taylor Greene, Thomas Massie, Tucker Carlson.

Remind us again how many prominent Democrats are publicly condemning Abdul El-Sayed, Zohran Mandani, Ilhan Omar? Shouldn't take you too long to count to zero.

gmfeld's avatar

Since you won't address it, Paul Gossar is a GOP Congressman and an acknowledged Nazi. And Trump, he dines with Nick Fuentes and Kanye at Mar A Lago. How many times has Schumer invited Fuentes over to his house for dinner? And those marching Nazi's who are the "good people" on both sides? Let's be clear: Trump did not "expel" as you say MGT, Massie, or Carlson over their antisemitism. In fact, the "expel" went the other direction: each of them broke with Trump over the Epstein files and Iran. So your point about Trump is 100% BS. To be clear, my point is only that there are antisemites galore on both sides of the aisle. And to deny that and just point at the Dem party writ large is a gross distortion.

Les Vitailles's avatar

You live in a fantasy world in order to continue your relationship with the Democratic Party, an abusive relationship at this point:

Nick Fuentes went only once to Trump’s house as the uninvited guest of Kanye West (who at that time had not uttered any antisemitic comments).

The “good people” at Charlottesville was a reference to people for and against removing Confederate statues there and not in reference to Nazis, as looking at the sentence Trump said preceding “good people” will show, This can now be verified at even the most liberal fact checkers.

How many times will Schumer support Abdul El-Sayed, a clear and present danger to the Jewish community, as we saw from this condoning the attempted bombing of a Jewish school in Michigan?

The NYT is the Bible speaking gospel to my Jewish family who support Israel and will vote Democrat for 2 reasons 1. Their TDS 2. The NYT and it's media allies like cnn. The fate of Europe and 10/7 are all explained and rationalized by their insistance that white Christian nationalism is the true enemy of the jews in America. Since the Megan kelly's and tuckers are at least republican adjacent and even some SI sources agree, nothing can convince them to change their minds. It's very frustrating. Even when the trump era ends, they hate Vance, who's not israel's greatest advocate, so I don't see them changing party. They scoff at tne idea that the DSA will ever get a enough support to have any affect on the Jewish population in America. Sadly until the Times tells the truth about Israel, liberal jews will continue to vote Democrat .

Liberal Don's avatar

NYTimes does tell the truth, that's why your angry w/them....

You don't know how to vote for? Here are some clues:

NY Governor Kathy Hochul said her job (fighting antisemitism) would be easier if Netanyahu wasn't there. In other words, there is a justified root for the antisemitism in her party but it's gone too far.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is Jewish and said she's too scared to attend the midterm nominating convention for the Democrats because of antisemitism.

On the other hand, the most prominent antisemites in the Republican Party were publicly and personally booted out of the MAGA movement by President Trump: Marjorie Taylor Green, Tucker Carlson, Thomas Massie, and others.

Know who to vote for now?

Sid, thanks for this excellent read. America is home to some 44% of the world’s Jews .. that is a lot.

Within that, there’s the % who are religious, all to varying degrees, those who can relate to the importance of Israel, and there are those where their Judaism is just their heritage, and nothing more, and I am sure many have never even been to Israel.

Only Jews in the diaspora know what it means to be associated with Israel .. non Jews can not describe it, nor comprehend the feeling.

Whilst you refer to anti Israel / anti Jew stance of the New York Times, likewise, we have the Guardian newspaper in the U.K. An odious paper always looking to dish the dirt on Israel.

Thank you. The struggle is real, as they say.

Wow. Excellent insights from someone who has a very distinctive vantage point on the rabbit hole so many of our politicians chose to slink into. One can only wonder what their song choices were. But what happens at karaoke stays in karaoke.

What took you so long to come to this conclusion. But better late than never. Hint: running to bomb shelters every hour tends to speed the process.

Adam's avatar

The author makes almost no hints of resolving his internal conflict and despite it all still seems to want to vote for the Democrats because of an idea he has about them from long ago when he decided he was one

There is literally nothing wrong with Bruce Blakeman or Saritha Komatireddy, but the headline of his article is about how he doesn’t know who to vote for because Kathy Hochul, Mayor Jihadi, and Tish James’ enablement of Jew hate makes him want to try really hard to still like them

Disgusting

I am with you. The Dems have abandoned me and my fellow Jews. That's true of the incredibly biased, antisemitic NYT. "All the antisemitic news that fits, we print." But it's so hard, knowing Trump is such a horrible idiot and how many fellow idiots follow him. He's done 2 things I agree with: he finally stopped the unsustainable influx across the southern border and bombed Iran's nuclear sites. But even a broken clock's right twice a day. A pox on both the extreme Right and Left. I pray we correct the course of our national ship. And, that MAGA Republicans, American lefty, anti-zionist Democrats open their eyes and learn,

Neither party is perfect because they’re flawed because they have flooded human beings and them however, I do believe the Democratic Party is going much more off the rails towards evil than the Republican Party. The Democratic Party also seems to identify now a socialist party and show more sympathy to Muslim extremists than Israel. Just my opinion.

HMM Well Sid based on you comments about the liberal Jew you are as far as i am cocerned you and year liberal Jew cronies lit the match that started the fire. And now that the fire is out of control and everywhere now you see the danger that the fire might reach your or any loved ones homes. So now yo grab a bucket of water. Sorry Sid not all things are better late than never and this is the big one.

Classical liberals should stop carrying water for a radical, anti-Semitic, Islamic apologist faction that treats disagreement as contamination. Now under radical Socialist control, when centrist Democrat Party dissenters become “MAGA Light,” the message is plain: independent judgment threatens the club. Moderates who tolerate that treatment of America First supporters are helping establish a standard that can eventually silence them, too. Defending Jewish safety, religious liberty, and Western constitutional government should require no apology or ideological permission slip. Those principles deserve leadership willing to defend them under pressure. Vote accordingly, and make every candidate earn the trust being requested. Liberalism cannot survive on the sufferance of people who regard tolerance as a temporary concession to be withdrawn once they have enough power.

Hey Sid Stein - “Halevai” (for the uninitiated it means “if only”) you were the only Zionist to ever say “Give it up for Zohran.”

Not that they’re Zionists (you can’t be one and a draft dodger too), but our old bros the Satmars said it loud and proud back in ‘24. And now again for Hochul and the other DSA yokels in ‘26. What’s wrong with them harmful idiots?

Now that I know that your friend Tex has got the Satmar beat covered for the NYT, do you think Sultzburger will dispatch him to uncover the answer the Times would never cover? My own theory… the Satmars are convinced DSA stands for Donate Substantial Amounts.
