Agree that Trump helped get the hostages back through influence by Qatar, which demonstrates Qatar has immense influence with hamas when they choose to use it for good. As for Trump's statements that hamas must unconditionally surrender and must disarm, that seems to get ignored as he pushes Israel into phase 2 and announces there is peace now in Gaza. I'm hoping Trump sticks to his original strong statements of support, but have reduced hope with his belief Qatar and Turkey need to be involved.

I suspect that most westerners believe that honorable people do not lie, although British diplomats have historically found ways around this requirement in dealings with the Arab World and elsewhere. It is still probably difficult for those of us in the West to conceive of the requirements of Islamist honor, where, and as with British imperialism, the underlying test of honor rests with protecting and expanding the Islamic State rather than behaving objectively honorably.
