I wholeheartedly agree with you! The basic moral principles of life still apply in Israel. I experienced this when I lived there. What a contrast with the way Western Countries raise their children at the moment. No conviction, no discipline, no values, living in a vacuum, waiting to be filled by nonsense. I despair.

Very interesting.

Parents in the US are raising fragile children period, though, regardless of religion.

I was going to write the same thing, Wendy. We have raised a generation of "bubble-wrapped" kids where everyone gets a trophy, even if you fail. We see the results of that, now, in America.

Israelis are wonderful. Israeli kids are wonderful. Let’s keep in mind that we are all on the same side. 💕

Is "fragile Jew" a new way to discuss JWTK - "Jew with trembling knees"? Menachem Begin used JWTK to describe the British Jewish scholar Isaiah Berlin.

I definitely concur with the author... our kids are amazingly resilient and free and choose many different ways to contribute and improve their local community as well as on the national scale... I can't tell you how many wonderful projects have been founded by teenagers in the nonprofit world....

My only issue is the Judaism component... which I find stronger and more pluralistic in the diaspora educational system than in the Israeli education where it has been segregated in effect... not enough yiddishkeit and core biblical understanding of why it is here in Israel where we make our stand... but with that... they are certainly defending us with honour and valour during this long war...

we are still in the pioneer stage...

There are plenty of Fragile Jews in Israel. In the media, academia, entertainment industry, army, and government. It is easy to take the Jew out of exile, but hard to take the exile out of the Jew.

Such an excellent article, Joshua. Everything you identified that builds the character of young Israeli Jews is what is lacking in not only some American Jews, but in American young people. In many families today, there is little guidance or conversation and then they go to schools that don't instill critical thinking or analysis. These young people have not had to contend with the kind of environment Israelis have to live with every day. US young people have been protected, made to feel flawless, and that everyone else is either to blame for any mishap they have, or they are "owed" by society just for existing. Young Israelis showed their strength and determination as IDF soldiers after October 7th. Everything you said was displayed in their courage and bravery in fighting the enemy. May Hashem continue to bless them and all Israelis.
