Bob, so true. There’s an old saying that every obstacle is an opportunity, and what was meant to weaken Israel may ultimately force it to become stronger and more independent. We’re seeing that already with the Abraham Accords, the emerging Isaac Accords, and growing ties in Asia with India.

Israel has to keep thinking transactionally and continue building alliances with countries that genuinely share strategic interests. We’re fortunate right now to have Republicans in power in the United States, but Israel has to plan for the possibility that political winds change in 2028. If that happens, it will certainly be bad for Jews living in America, but it could also be very bad for Israel if it doesn’t adapt.

I’ve been advocating for weapons independence from US for a long time. It happened during the Yom Kippur war with politically delayed arms deliveries. It happened again in recent conflict. It was clear to all that the dependencies on every 4 years changing political US administration can be disastrous. Yet, it continued as a drug dependent addict to supposedly “free” aid. It seems that the “party” is coming to the end by the Democrats being very clear about their position and independence will be gained.

not to the victims of the "Occupation"....

Michelle's avatar

Victims? Almost every day in the 2000s Palestinians crossed over to kill as many Israelis as possible by way of suicide bombing. Checkpoints reduced the killings. Look at all the other checkpoint situations in the Middle East... It's not rare!

I just read this morning in "Israel Realtime" that the Israeli gov'mint just signed a NIS 600 million agreement with Elbit Systems to purchase domestically produced weapons systems. That's a good start. Commenting on another point that you made, not only are Democrats troubled by Jewish power used unapologetically, they are also troubled by American power used unapologetically. They will not be happy until we are plunged into a new Dark Age and the star and crescent replace Lady Liberty at the top of the Capital.

By our blood & עצם we have reached a level of maturuty to understand what is the ner tamid.

The world has shamelessly displayed itself, raw, unabashed hatred of us; this, as when our sacred knowledge is stolen, sold, or bartered, as ever it does becomes poison upon those who covet and by design can only be used against themselves in the worst of ways. The sins of ages past shall unite us.

OUR PEOPLE, we who understand what in truth is the ner tamid shall bring us into our purpose on earth. Who is the the ner tamid, it is we united, unsullied by the humiliations burned into our flesh. They thrmselves have brought us to understand and unite before the Eternal. May we all know and understand and in this era we find ourselves in with those who are asleep in the dust awaiting .....

"WE ARE THE NER TAMID"

"Modeh ani l'fanecha; thank YOU G-D for having made me a JEW."this I proclaim from the living world into the heavens; that all our beloved ones wevare in mourning for with we who are 'in the breathing break the chains imposed upon, the barriers of time and space to bear witness of our strength.

-I speak for my kinsmen slaughtered at Babi Yar and my friend Simone May זייל

I miss, who became a JEW by the Grand Rabbi of France at the close of WWII. My defiant beloved friend I weep for in tears of blood, JEWISH blood united.

The problem is that if Israel is not provided adequate conventional weaponry, it increases the chances that it would have to rely on its nuclear arsenal.

So cutting arms sales to Israel increases the chances of nuclear war.

Sherrie Mathieson's avatar

No rational country looks to USE its nuclear weapon. It's "insurance". Only Iran would use it with NO hesitation.

Liberal Don's avatar

and face an onslaught from many nations?

Eric R.'s avatar

Lack of adequate conventional weapons could put Israel in a position where it would face an existential threat.

Dana Ramos's avatar

And there is no other country on earth facing an existential threat, no other people in the world. If Israel is facing annihilation, they should use whatever will save them. Never Again means never again. Allowing half of the world's Jewry--only a mere 15 million people in the world--slaughtered, yet again, must not happen.

Excellent article. Israel needs to turn down that aid and soon. One thing I don't see is their ability to stay as the number 1 Middle East military without advanced military technology purchases from the US. Why do you think they have the 2nd best Air Force in the world? They just cant do what massive, well funded US defense companies like Raytheon do. I see the Dems then moving to just trying to block US arm sales to Israel.

Wondered for a long time that with all their technological know-how, the Israelis haven't built their own strategic bombers. Hopefully the plans are on the books and with the rift between Israel and the US growing, any constraints will eventually be shrugged off.

j p m's avatar

There is no way Israel can build something like 100 F35s from scratch.

Sam's avatar

Google or AI Israel's world standing as a technological giant especially defense and weapon ingenuity. Israel is a close second to the US and more impactful than even China. Israel's expected growth and dominance in defense and military innovation is expected to see continued massive growth and, in some sectors like Military MoneyBall weaponry, even surpass the US.

Israel spends $32 billion a year on its own defense. The $3B in US aid they're required to spend on American weapons goes to the bottom lines of RTX, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, General Dynamics, and L3Harris. If Israel takes its $3B elsewhere, those stock prices feel it. Shareholders better pay attention.

100% agree. No more begging the US and having what happened during the Hamas war happen.

Other than Israel's war of Independence in 1948, it has never fought a war without some sort of military supply, assistance, or support by a major power, either the UK, France, or the United States. It remains to be seen how well Israel will fare relying solely own supply and manufacture of weapons, ships, planes, tanks, and armament, plus backing in the Security Council by the United States. As an American I'll continue to vote for candidates who support Israel.

The Democrats have found their single, distinct brand. They’re the US Anzi Party. I’m done voting for them.
