As a non-Jew who is very sympathetic to the Jewish people and their mission of tikkun olam: you are not without friends amongst us Gentiles. I personally deeply appreciate Jewish ethics and Jewish resistance against tyranny and injustice. My opinions are shared amongst many other mon-Jews.
Sad but interesting essay. I'm an atheist, secular Jew who does have a Jewish identity, given to me by my parents, who passed down that we are all a tribe, and we should aim to do good. The phrase I heard most growing up was Do Unto Others... So it's possible to have a Jewish identity without religion (I realize you're speaking generally), but yeah, it's lonely. I would love being in a community. I don't know where I'd be if I didn't have martial arts behind me, giving me the strength to say Fuck You to the haters, and to wear my Magen David openly. I firmly believe all Jews should be in self-defense classes if not martial arts for the self-confidence it brings, and we need to be able to take care of ourselves.
As a Gentile who has love and support for Jews I find this so very sad. I cannot imagine what it must be like. But I continue to pray and care for you. I know it isn't much, but it's all many of us can do. My own adult son, raised to love Israel, is now a believer in the propaganda. He knows where I stand. It has divided us. We were once very close. So the Jewish problem touches Gentile lives as well. Mankind has gone mad.
The situation is outrageous. My heart breaks for you. I still believe that this will eventually change. Western society will realise the horror that will engulf them. I will always stand with the Jewish people and Israel.
Depressing essay which brings up some valid points and some nonsense as well. Not sure what to make of it but being a Jew, won't waste my time overthinking. Instead, will go cycling for a few hours and then head off to the range for an hour or so of relaxing, meditative, target shooting. Genesis 12:3
There's NO "nonsense" she wrote. She makes some excellent points, and no one is wrong for expressing their opinion, even if you don't concur. Things are BAD; We cannot sit in denial. "Target Shooting, wasting your time!?" - -Wow, you're being flippant.
I don't know about this one. Yeah, there are a lot of Jew haters out there. But growing up in the "golden age of Jewish life," America in the second half of the 20th century, I noticed very little antisemitism. Well, in the '50s were weren't allowed to join the "best" country clubs, but my family couldn't afford even the lesser country clubs, so who cared? I went to an elite university where a disproportionate number of students, staff, and faculty were Jewish. The Nobel Committees have awarded us an awful lot of Nobel Prizes ... surely they didn't hate us. I really want to believe that the hatred of Jews is an amplified response of a much smaller number of actual antisemites who make a lot of noise disparaging and even killing us. Even today, it seems like antisemitism, at least in America, is a large component only of the universities (a dramatic and tragic fall after my own college days). So I fear what will happen when today's antisemitic college kids take control. But they aren't there yet, so there is still time. I hope.
I was fortunate to live during the American golden age of tolerance for Jews. Unfortunately the golden age is over. The horrific murder of most European Jews only gave us 80 years of peace. Quite a great cost, which we do not want to see repeated, although extermination of Jews remains a main goal of Muslims (including those engaged in immigration jihad in Europe).
I heard someone say today “I bet everything we’ve heard about Muslim terrorists has been Zionist propaganda for the last 20 years.” I was thinking about the 16 million vs 1.8 billion Muslims today too…I’m starting to feel real existential dread not just for Jews but for all of us.
Ms. Greenfeld has written a very depressing post. I have been an assimilated Jew most of my life. At 17, I left my parent’s home in a Jewish. Neighborhood. Now, at 84, I I look back on my interesting and good life. I have lived in many different neighborhoods. I have never experienced antisemitism. My friends are a mix of everything and have made my life full of rich experiences. I won’t go on, but I think the author is wrong in her assessment. By the way, everyone who knows me, knows I am Jewish, have studied the Torah, light candles on Friday nights and belong to a synagogue.
I am 85. I grew up mainly in Jewish neighborhoods and schools. But when I ventured beyond, I saw signs that said "restricted to Christians." My family was not welcomed in various facilities, but we went anyway, and ignored the icy looks. I remember boys at Easter roaming the streets looking for Jews. And who knows what opportunities I lost because they had "enough Jews."
The situation is serious but not as serious as this piece indicates. The hatred of Jews in the United States is concentrated among radical leftists and Muslims. Throughout the vast majority of the country Jews are well respected as is the Jewish state. The problem is that Jews have always congregated among other Jews and they are generally found in large numbers in big cities. These cities tend to have a large population of the kind of leftists who menace not just Jews but the entire decent population. Many Jews are in fact leftists and they now feel (for good reason) endabgered because they have been turned on by their fellow progressives. If they were aware of another world that exists of normal moderate decent people they wouldn't be so afraid. This is not to say that the Jew hatred that masquerades as supporting the Palestinians is not a huge concern. It is. And that is not to say that Jews dont have anything at all to fear from the Neo Nazi type of Jew haters. They do. But things are a lot better than some fear mongers are claiming. And many though not all of those fear mongers are in fear because their entire world is the progressive world and they think that is everyone.
54 Muslim countries in the UN. Plus another maybe 60 dictatorships or faux democracies. More than half the UN. 1.9 billion followers of www.thereligionofpeace.com AND 15 million Jews worldwide, maybe 15% who don't help Israel or even worse, cause damage to Israel.
The recent surge in antisemitism in the west has very much to do with open immigration from muslim countries. It's interesting that while Egypt, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and many other Arab countries ban the muslim brotherhood, the west welcomes it. The west is rapidly becoming more islamized than the Arab world. I think what's happening is that many of their crazies, who have increasingly become pariahs by their own governments, have immigrated to the west where they are being allowed to spread their poison unobstructed.
F*** the Haters. They are simply wrong. The problems come when a country's government policy becomes infiltrated by Hatred. This has not happened in The West. Whilst it is true that we have documented The State maintaining teams of Anti-Semites in some of the Services, these Elements are not the whole of The State (at least here in The United Kingdom). This vocal Nazi minority in The Services is now monitored and exposed and documented, and actually, Jews are quite respected for the valuable job we do in this regard. For the real danger is organised Nazism.
I think the real danger is from muslims. That is what's fueling the recent surge in antisemitism. You also have Qatar buying western politicians and institutions. Keir Starmer is shameless in his pandering to Qatar and attacks on Israel. I hear that London has a large number of muslims in its police force.
I support the Trump administration, but I fear that it is too weak (or too compromised) in regard to Qatar, a Muslim Brotherhood state devoted to Islamic supremacism.
The author makes many valid points and the situation is serious. There is some extrapolation perhaps that overstates the amount of hatred because it seems concentrated in certain areas. Nevertheless Jews are under siege. Experiencing prejudice and constantly being on the defensive do have definite psychological impacts. But the reason it’s getting worse now is because it’s being amped up from the top as a political tool.
98% of this is paid for and organized by the Red-Green alliance of Commies and Islamists. There are the usual far right reprobates, and the new paid lackeys on the Right like Candace Owens and Tucker Qatarlson. Both of whom are probably getting paid by Islamists.
Learn to use and safely carry a gun if you can. You aren’t going to win in a 5 on one street fight. Trump is working on this problem , but in America the Democrat municipalities look the other way and tacitly encourage this violent intimidation. They aren’t going to just go away without bringing afraid of the consequences of their actions. Better they hate us and fear us than thinking we are easy prey . These are shit people who are emotionally deformed. They aren’t going to be your friends and you shouldn’t want them to be. Do whatever you have to do to avoid becoming a victim of these terrorists.
BELIEVE ME, we appreciate Gentiles like you. A LOT. We NEED you. Thank you.
ditto
Thanks!
Thankyou, Germen, but it feels overwhelming how many are against us, Instead, illogically, these people are supporting terrorism.

Target shooting is far from a waste of time. Stressing over "Why everyone hates us" is a waste of time, and not healthy.

Have you seen the admission statistics of elite colleges recently? Jewish enrollment is way way down. And I know it’s not because we’ve gotten dumber.
What Jew hatred does is simple: It makes people dumb, makes them get used to being dumb, normalizes accepting fiction as Truth, over facts!
I heard someone say today “I bet everything we’ve heard about Muslim terrorists has been Zionist propaganda for the last 20 years.” I was thinking about the 16 million vs 1.8 billion Muslims today too…I’m starting to feel real existential dread not just for Jews but for all of us.
I just watched the Netflix Turning Point documentary on 9/11 and the war on terror. Have Americans forgotten already?
Nailed it.

Do these people support Israel? Are they appalled by 7/10? Is it a non issue?
I am asking, not doubtingwhat you are saying.

Wow. There's a lot to digest in your essay. I recognize myself in some of what you say and it makes me sad as hell.
