Very informative article. My own thoughts are that if nation rebuilding is to proceed, then tighter terms need to be put in place, along the lines of the Marshall Plan in Germany post WW2. In that, Nazism was totally banned. In the case of Gaza, it would be a complete ban on any terrorist groups. Then we might finaly see moderate groups emerge for elections, which was the case in 1949 Germany - no hint of a Nazi party in sight. The same needs to happen in Gaza and indeed the PA West Bank. Fatah also should be banned and the PA reformed with only moderate electable officials eligible who want to make peace with Israel on realistic terms.
Before you get a country to agree to "no hint" of their former ideology, they have to be decimated and hurting so badly that they "cry uncle" -- as was the case with Germany and Japan. In addition, Hamas carries an ideology with roots that are hundreds of years old. I don't think that would you propose is possible - yet.
Islam only began in the 7th century CE, I believe it is. So, approximately 1600 years old, as compared to the Jews who were there literally 3-4000 years.
I don’t know enough about the Marshall Plan in post-war Germany. Is it even possible to ban all terrorist groups? It seems that there’s a possibility that all adult Gazans ( at least) are terrorists. In Germany, it was possible to know who were members of the Nazi Party.
My heart sinks to realise that the Abraham Accords could be endangered. Please, Americans. Represent to your government that it must resile from ‘nation -building’ in Gaza.
I certainly think you can ban them from power and having any eligibility in elections. In the 1949 elections in West Germany, the first after WW2, all the contenders were moderates. The same needs to be imposed both on Gaza and the Palestinian West Bank. You can’t have one party, Fatah, with a ‘pay for slay’ policy against Jews, and the other Hamas, with a sworn policy of killing all Jews.
There are moderate Palestinians out there, but they’re mostly in business working with Israelis in the West Bank or in Peace Camp accords with Israel. Those are the people who need to step up to the plate for elections.
I cannot believe this deal will make it to Phase 3--and seriously doubt even past Phase 2. All the talk coming out of Trump and his team is about removing the Gazans (for many years, at the least) and letting investors come in to rebuild (those beaches!) for the most part. Tunnels have to be filled in before anything can start and rebuilding could take 15 years; by that time, the Gazans will be settled in other Arab countries, hopefully un-brainwashed and assimilated into their new countries. Any Gazan wanting to return to live and work during and after reconstruction must be carefully vetted. There is also a LOT of public talk about Israel keeping Judea and Samaria as well as Gaza and the Golan Heights--it is all necessary for Israel's security. Trump is serious about all this: A few days ago a reporter asked him what will happen because Egypt and Jordan said they won't take any Gazans. With a serious tone he replied, "Oh, they'll take them. They'll take them. We do a lot for them. They'll take them."
The "bad deal" had to be made to show the people of Israel, and the world, that everything short of destroying Israel was done to get out as many hostages as possible. And to let Trump get into office and make final plans with Israel (Netanyahu is in Washington as I write this--notably the FIRST foreign head of state invited by Trump, and that speaks volumes!) But the bad cease-fire deal can't hold with the plans Israel and Trump are pushing--they are committed to seeing Hamas destroyed as well as Iran's nuke-building sites and the other terror groups. It will be easier to back out of the deal now that Hamas has shown they have not stopped THEIR goals to kill all Jews and take over Israel. I also expect increasing public talk about the dangers to the world that Radical Islamic ideology poses and that will add validity to backing out of the bad deal. And already, the UN is being exposed and invalidated as corrupt terror-supporters, so their lies and protests over the new plans will be toothless.
This opportunity to remake the Middle East and bring lasting peace, prosperity and coexistence (resembling the UAE) is at hand and it would be utterly tragic for the entire Middle East if it does not happen. The final blows to Iran and the terror groups are imminent. Trump and Netanyahu know this and I simply can't believe they will let this wonderful and historic opportunity slip away. Yes, the Leftist media and the "haters" will howl and scream their lies and hate, but that will fade away when videos from Iran, and probably Lebanon and even Syria, are posted of people dancing and celebrating in the streets and thanking ISRAEL (and America) for liberating them and paving the way for a Middle East Renaissance.
I'm optimistic based on everything I've read and seen and heard since the beginning of the war. The very first hint of this plan came just a few days after the massacre. Netanyahu gave a speech and I'm paraphrasing, but he said, "The war will be long. When it is over, Gaza will be rubble and the Middle East will be changed in ways that people will talk about for generations." A reporter asked him if the war will ruin the chances of Saudi Arabia signing the Abraham accords and for peace in the Middle East. With a slight smile and a twinkle in his eyes, Netanyahu replied, "To the contrary. When this is over, the opportunities will be more ripe than ever before." Just a few days after the massacre! THAT is when I knew things were going to be very different this time and Netanyahu had a big, transformative plan. The war would have been over much much sooner if not for the previous USA administration, but... here we are, and it's sooooo close now.
Thank you for details on The Deal. The Arabs in Gaza demolished greenhouses and homes and beautiful infrastructure Israelis had built before forced out by politics decades ago. The people of terror appreciate nothing but murdering Jews. Trump is slaying dragons here at breakneck speed. Something tells me Trump’s anger at the hostage horror has determined a different outcome this time. The days of Camp David posing with terrorists like Arafat, of billions of USA money pouring into the sewer of PLO, of the plight of poor Palestinian theatre is all done. No leader has ever said, ‘move them out.’ That statement alone gives Bibi huge maneuverability with USA support. I hope I heard right: that this is a pseudo deal to get the hostages and then retribution and removal.
Move the Gazan arabs to Egypt and Jordan . Arrange funding from Qatar and Turkey for Gaza redevelopment , to be undertaken by the Israelis . Then offer Gazan arabs 2 options : swear allegiance to Israel ( punishable in breach by deportation ) and return to Israeli-managed Gaza to live and work as residents or claim citizenship in Jordan .
One problem at a time . You can’t redevelope Gaza with them still there . So once the terrorists are exterminated , the rest get put in temporary camps in Egypt and / or Jordan preferably Jordan administered closely . Whilst the rebuilding is underway , Iran is neutralised and regime change effected . Qatar and Turkey are punished by having to pay reparations which go towards rebuilding Gaza . Gazans are then offered the chance to move back under Israeli town management, having sworn allegiance to Israel . If not , they are given Jordanian citizenship and move / stay there.
No more Hamas , Hezbollah has gone , no more UNWRA . Russians , Qataris and zTurks all warned off the area . Syria Yemen and Iraq will be disconnected after regime change in Iran .
Why should America spend money to help build up their enemy? Like what is the rationale? That it’ll appease them and they’ll start to like us? How dumb can politicians get?
One plan proposed for Germany after WWII was a completely agrarian country. With no ability to rearm and start a new war. Gaza: move the refugee population out and resettle them..permanently in other countries with whom they share music, food, language, religion and sense of belonging to a "nation." The Arab Nation. Iran will be a problem until it's not the Islamic republic. Will Malaysia or Brunei then take up the mantle. They might aspire to. Most of what the readers add I agree with. Is Israel expected to rebuild the homes of people that Hamas used as cover for missile launching. More trillions from EU and USA to appease people who have no will for nation building just destruction. their Honor / Shame syndrome. How Japan and Germany changed so drastically....? From Supermen to people committed to democracy. I don't know what is possible for Muslims. They are guided by Allah. And Supremacism.
Do not dismiss "nation building" so fast. It is all a matter of defining whose nation will be rebuilt. After the hostages are released and the IDF inevitably goes back into Gaza, phase 3 becomes annexation of Gaza and area C (at least) of Judea-Samaria. Then Israel becomes the nation that will be rebuilt. You gotta think BIG!
The Arabs will say yes to anything, and then secretly arm The Arab Palestinians, both firstly with Moral Succour and then weapons, for their continued War against The Jews of Israel. There is no future for Gaza, because any 'State'-Entity, (either with a Military or Demilitarised) fails to take into account The Arab Palestinians Desire for Renewed Jihad and the Glory of Martyrdom and thirst for revenge which will inevitably restart the War.
Profiting from Pain: The Outrage of an American Occupation in Gaza
The very notion of an American occupation in Gaza is not just outrageous—it’s an affront to humanity. The horrifying proposal to displace over 2 million Palestinians from the land where their families have lived for thousands of years is a crime against history, against dignity, and against every principle we claim to uphold.
Disguising this heinous plan as “development” or “stability” is nothing more than a thinly veiled attempt at profiteering from suffering. The idea of turning Gaza into a so-called “Middle Eastern Riviera” is not visionary—it’s vicious. It’s a grotesque display of power prioritizing profit over people, luxury over lives, and greed over grief.
This isn’t redevelopment. It’s erasure. The forced removal of millions under the guise of progress echoes the darkest chapters of history, where those in power justified atrocities as necessary for “the greater good.”
The U.S. president’s decree that such actions are “good for them” is a chilling reminder of how easily the powerful can distort reality. There is no good in forced displacement. There is no progress in paving over the pain of the oppressed.
We must reject this narrative. We must stand against the exploitation of trauma, the commodification of grief, and the weaponization of power. This is not peace. This is not progress. This is theft—of land, of history, of humanity.
'We must stand against the exploitation of trauma, the commodification of grief, and the weaponization of power.'.... Which is Exactly what Hamas has done. Gaza was a fully functioning and self-governing Palestinian enclave, (albeit without 'State'-entity status to cover for the trafficking of heavy weapons). But Hamas used Grievance to launch their STATED AIM of a GENOCIDAL ATTACK of October 7th 2023 against The Jews of Israel. The result: War. So, let us hear you condemn Hamas for this, and their exploitation of trauma and the commodification of grief, and the weaponization of power, before we listen to any of your claptrap about 'occupation', because Gaza was a fully functioning and self-governing Palestinian enclave. And now they have nothing.
The US should not reward Hamas in any manner let alone a plan to rebuild Gaza with Hamas in charge
100%.

I truly believe this is going to happen. Soon.
You are an optimist and I hope you are correct.

Please G-d, that Trump pulls out...
The only thing the Israelis should be building in Gaza is mass graves to put these Muslim filth in
Please be sure to send a copy of this to Trump and all his foreign policy advisers. Thank you.
Excellent essay. Let's hope Trump or those close to him, not Witkoff, read it.
