Shane, as I was reading your piece I kept thinking about my grandmother, who lost almost her entire family in the Holocaust. I never imagined that the kind of hatred she experienced could resurface in places like the United States or Canada, where I live now. Yet here we are. What amazes me most is how much October 7 changed me personally. I had almost nothing to do with Judaism — I’m agnostic, I don’t go to synagogue, not even on the High Holy Days. But since October 7 I feel like I’ve enlisted in the propaganda war on behalf of Jews and Israel, doing what I can every day. I’m an old man now, but I shoulder on. If I were younger, I’d join the IDF tomorrow, because Israel is our only real home. And you’re right — words like “Never Again” mean nothing without action. People can pray if they wish, but prayer means nothing without action either.
Jew hatred spreading in the West in places like Canada, Australia and Europe is almost entirely driven by the spread of large scale immigration from the Islamic world. It is apparently something that cannot be admitted, that the Islamic world is just as violently anti-semitic as Nazi Germany ever was and those attitudes follow the people to the West. And feckless pathetic Western governments do little or nothing (They certainly won't admit the reality of it) because they fear upsetting the ever larger Islamic population. So it feeds on itself. That is not to say there isn't lingering anti-semitism among natives of the West. But the thing we are all dealing with today that makes articles like this necessary is driven by Islamic immigration.
You are absolutely spot on. It is something we must discuss openly, which in Australia is part of the reason why the One Nation Party has seen its support increase significantly. In Australia we have a government more interested in pandering to those who don’t respect our Western Values. If you have ever visited Singapore, they don’t allow overseas hate to be imported. It is a small country based on respect, something the West is losing rapidly. I have no answers.
"Jew hatred spreading in the West in places like Canada, Australia and Europe is almost entirely driven by the spread of large scale immigration from the Islamic world."
Why is this happening?
Who is assisting in this?
Who benefits from this?
In all cases and without exception it is The Left that is doing this in all countries simultaneously. The Left needs votes and they need a permanent dependent class that is the ward of the government. The new illegal immigrants get to commit massive monetary fraud - all paid for by working taxpayers in exchange for votes.
The Left Wing NGO's are all to happy to receive taxpayer money to assist in this illegal immigation racket. In the US that includes Catholic Charities, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service and finally Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society.
Who might you ask is absent from all this: Republicans in general, MAGA voters in particular, The Evangelical Christian Community and Orthodox Jews are a few of them in opposition.
In Canada in the last election in 2025 52% of the Jews voted for The Left. In the United States in 2024 anywhere from 65 to 70% of Jews voted for Kamala Harris and thus a continuation of this.
Thank you Shane for this beautiful and heartfelt piece. Please know that "Never Again" has meaning because Israel is a global military, intelligence, and nuclear power...all other explanations are window dressing. For Jews living in Australia, Europe, North America, South America, Asia, and Africa, complementing our practice of Jewish faith and lifestyle is eminently more confident if our learnings also include Krav Maga situational awareness and self-defense training. Rising from the ashes of the concentration camps, the survivors DEMONSTRATED the meaning of NEVER AGAIN--they did not just speak the words...and shrink away in silence.
Reading your beautiful tribute felt like my own private observance of Yom Hashoah. Another private moment was when I took myself to a private space in Birkenau and said Kaddish for the aunt of my former husband, who died, together with her parents, in Auschwitz, and whose name I took when I converted to Judaism. Her brother, my late former father-in-law, who left Poland for Israel as a teenager, lived to help build his new country’s bridges and other infrastructure, then to build a new and prosperous life for his two sons in the US and Canada. He lived to see and celebrate his seven grandchildren born and reared as Jews. I celebrate every day my own six Jewish grandchildren. Years before contemplating conversion, I was deeply affected by stories of the Shoah and of the birth of Israel. Those stories continue to matter, and to offer us strength in this difficult era. Thank you for sharing yours.
Bravo. As someone born in Australia (WA) and now calls London home. I want to throttle so many necks but their own thoughtlessness will bite them in the arse.
Throttle their necks sounds exactly right. Feel free to share this piece across your UK networks as well. I had never written anything before October 7. On Yom Hashoah, I must be their voice.
Elie Wiesel had a profound influence on my work "Memory is Our Home" my understanding of Holocaust history. As a former student of his at CCNY, I learned from him that survivors' stories are about more than just survival; they are about the vibrant lives that existed before the Holocaust, forever severed, never to recover. Professor Wiesel insisted that my mother document her life after WWI and her experiences during WWII, encouraging us to commit everything to paper and to embrace the difficult journey of memory.
One of the most significant lessons my mother left me concerns the Bund. After WWI, it was the most popular ideology among Jews, attracting Polish patriots who believed they could preserve their Jewish identity, heritage, and Yiddish language while coexisting peacefully with non-Jews across Europe. Tragically, the Bund proved to be a failed ideology, based on the mistaken belief that coexistence was possible and that Jews were safe in Europe.
Thank you for acknowledging that millions of Non-Jews were also murdered by Hitler and The Nazis. We are not alone in our horror and pain. 27 Million Russian souls also perished, as well as five million Polish people, 3 million Serbian folk, 8 million German soldiers and civilians, as well as 450,000 British and Allied civilians and airmen and soldiers. Hitler was a monster, and almost everyone in the present day respects this memory as fact too. We Jews are the memory of these facts, because we will simply Never forget, always remembering Nazism and baring witness to Nazism’s psychopathic followers today.
When I was able to retrieve copies of my grandparents birth certificates in Bialystok, I was emotional when they showed them to me. The non-Jewish Polish staff were then also emotional. One had told me his grandfather had survived Treblinka. It just shows doesn’t it. I was fortunate there was one non Jewish Polish American in the waiting area who could help me translate the form so that I could complete my grandparents details.
Yes. Every sensible person knows the Nazis were and are absolute Scum. Those who sympathise with them are also scum. I am sorry to be using such language with your family’s memory, but this is our burden and memory. Amazingly, there are Nazis in The State now who are antisemitic, and who are being used by organised Nazism. We fight them each day too. Best wishes. May your family memory be a Blessing.
I appreciate the work you are doing to combat antisemitism. For your children's sake have you ever considered making Aliyah? It is the ONLY country where Jews can be themselves. Never having to hide your identity. Never having to explain yourself. It is liberating!
I’d love to, my biggest regret in life. My daughter is finishing her schooling so not the right time now. For now, maybe I have a calling here?!?! Who knows
My mother in the late 1950s had the opportunity to visit Bergen-Belsen and later, as I was growing up, explained the Holocaust to me. It was so horrifying. I always thought it couldn't happen again because the world had learned its lesson. That no longer seems to be the case.
An exceptional piece of writing...so powerful. Your testimony does your grandparents proud. How lucky you are to have family members who survived and thrived. Many of mine did not.
Thank you for clearly pointing out the antisemitic scourge that is overtaking the West. We Jews will not remain silent!
Shane, thanks for sharing your experiences. My parents were Hungarian Holocaust survivors, and I can relate to the changes you described, which similarly are affecting (maybe afflicting is a better word) Jewish life in Canada. I share, in case you or other readers may be interested, a post I wrote about my mother's experience in Auschwitz and when it was ostensibly liberated by the Russians. There are a few other posts about her and my father's experiences during the Holocaust. https://tackle18.substack.com/p/the-end-of-auschwitz-from-liquidation
The war in Iran is about the survival of Western Civilization. Whoever controls the energy of the world controls the world. If Iran controls the Persian gulf oil it will mean the end of the Petrodollar and the end of the dollar as reserve currency. If that happens inflation in the U.S. will sky rocket and our society will crumble under the burden of a $39 trillion dollar national debt. By being the reserve currency we export our inflation to other countries that must hold dollars in order to buy oil.
Our current problems come to us from Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Obama ( The first Moslem President in American history ) Joe Biden, and Bush Jr.
The ideology and history of Islam shows it to be no different than Hitler and the Nazis.
Most Americans do not understand this and do not see the danger. The Democratic party has already been taken over by Nazis and communists.

Thank you for your beautiful message. I wish I could have a conversation with my grandparents. I need their wisdom.
They were a special breed. Such courage and tenacity.

I was just in Prague and Budapest. This problem does not exist there. We all know why.
Exactly right. My daughter visited Prague with her school in December and then Israel.
Absolutely. Western leaders today are no Churchill’s.

This is what Gad Saad calls: "Suidical Empathy."
It is more than that though: It is criminal.
