Your observation are correct but you left out one other objective of his...distraction from the inhumane activities and goals the Islamic jihad movement he supports.
Mamdani has an obsession with the Israel the same way Iran, Hezbollah and Hamas do. Like them, the vilification, isolation and destruction of Israel is his defining belief and raison d’etre.

I think, in the end, Mamdani's political future won't be decided by his views on Israel. It will be decided by the economy. If his socialist policies make New York less affordable, less safe, or less prosperous, voters will eventually respond. If they don't, he survives.
As someone who grew up in New York, I'm still stunned that he was elected at all. Even more surprising is that so many Jews voted for him. That tells me the issue is much bigger than Israel.
Unfortunately, I don't think Jews will have much influence over New York's political direction. The economy will. If New Yorkers discover there really is no such thing as "easy street," they'll demand a different course.
