Canada's recognition of "Palestine" came with conditions — that were never enforced. In the Palestinians' war against the Jews, they are never given their own agency. Only Israel is expected to abide.
Adam, for anyone who doubts that a progressive government would sacrifice principle for politics, this is another example. None of this was really about doing the right thing. It was about appealing to a growing Muslim voting bloc, to the progressive left, and to those who were already predisposed to blame Israel. Politically, it accomplished exactly what the government wanted.
The double standard couldn't be clearer. Conditions were announced, but when they weren't met, there were no consequences. Israel continued to be judged and pressured, while the Palestinian leadership was excused from accountability.
The tragedy is that this kind of cowardice doesn't just hurt Israel or the Jewish community. Canada's enemies are the same enemies of every Canadian who values democracy and freedom. The government may think it's buying political support today, but if it continues down this path, Canada itself will pay the price.
This is not just true of Canada, it’s true of the West. The West neither imposes obligations on Palestinians nor holds them accountable for their actions. For the West (and the Arabs), the Palestinians are merely a cudgel with which to beat Israel.
Palestine text books haven't changed since they were Jordanian textbooks the Israelis examined after the Six Day War....they were hate filled then and they are hate filled now.
The act of recognising the State of Palestine was deviant, with pernicious effect. Prime Minister Albanese of Australia proudly, and with a smile on his face, did the same. Then, a couple of months ago Carney visited Australia and the two leaders got together, happy in their unison, exuberant handshakes all around. Carney seemed to me, from his speeches and interaction with the press, a very sharp guy and as hard as nails. Who knows why they do this? Where their false sense of moral reckoning comes from? All the facts as you've outlined them in regard to the actual behaviour of the Palestinians and their leader, Abbas, and their charter, should send any sane, intelligent, fair-minded person running and yet this is what we have instead. Perhaps, after all, our two leaders are not so smart, but rather sheep in the fold.
Albanese (Australian PM) is on the hard left and was a student activist for ‘Palestine’. He and our Foreign Minister Penny Wong are ideologically committed to a ‘Palestinian state’ at any cost to Israel. Labor’s base is extremely anti-Zionist and also has a large Muslim cohort. Recently, the PM & Home Affairs minister Tony Burke visited a controversial mosque (in Lakemba, the same suburb in which the Bondi terrorists were radicalised) — both politicians were jostled and verbally abused by the congregants over Gaza etc. Our PM looked shaken, but made no critical comment about the incident. He was weak and submissive. Also within the last month, we’ve had the return to Australia of various ‘ISIS brides’ and their children; women who committed crimes such as keeping slaves. The government denies it facilitated their return, but reports suggest there was a secret deal not to stop them re-entering as Australian citizens. At every crisis point, Jewish community is treated with contempt, while Islamic voters are pandered to and protected.
Yes, all of this is so. Although, being a student activist for something does not necessarily equate with what someone might become in older age. I am not inferring that he does not still have sympathies with the Palestinians and the State they purport to want - it is only desired without a Jewish State beside it - just that we can't necessarily extrapolate in that way. Re the ISIS brides, thus far it has not been proved that all of them committed crimes, so we'll have to wait and see. I do actually believe that a country should own their own criminals and the law deal with the outcomes. I also believe that young children should be given a chance.
Carney is a low testosterone loser. Among the reasons the "palestinians" will never stop terrorism is because it pays off. We now know that even the most barbaric atrocities they commit against Israelis, the west will still blame the Israelis and continue funding the pali terrorists and welfare state. Nothing is ever demanded or expected of them. The west holds them to no standards of behavior whatsoever, not even the lowest bar of behavior like just stop murdering Israelis.
The double standards are not Canada's alone. They are the same of the European nations who have recognised Palestine. It will eventually bite them in the ass as well, as the Muslim populations forment trouble and eventually overthrow those governments.
"It would hold general elections in 2026 in which Hamas could play no part. It would demilitarize." This will happen when pigs fly so don't hold your breath waiting. Carney and the so-called "Canadian government" have lost their blooming minds. No wonder some of the Western provinces want out.

Shame on the government of Canada

Canadian hypocrisy towards the State of Israel has no bounds.
What a shame.

You believe many things. Your assertions are without argument.
Much like 60’s graffiti.

Connect this to Canada's long history of Antisemitism, their policy towards Jews during WWII was, "Non is Too Many".
Because it’s not about the fake, feral ‘palestinians’, is it?
wow, so true
