9/11 and 10/7 are not the same. For all the reasons in this piece.

But today’s version of 9/11 is revisionist history. Without the rewriting of 9/11, the disgusting reaction to 10/7 wasn’t possible. People ripping down posters of hostages in NYC would not have been socially acceptable in a NYC that hadn’t utterly forgotten 9/11. Young people who don’t remember 9/11 are joined by people old enough to know better in brushing 9/11 aside like it was no big deal. The Tiktok adoration of Osama bin Laden is not warranted. It betrays a deep confusion. Domestic American politics where Republicans have forgotten foreign policy and everything else in an effort to argue more vociferously about Trump means that no one who was part of America’s strategy to respond to 9/11 has any credibility or gravitas left. The rewriting of 9/11 has been a net loss for America, the world and Israel too.

9/11 was a terrible moment of carnage. Israel has to move forward in order to stop the repeated attacks on itself. It is not a choice, as the West see it, it is a necessity.
