So you would prefer not to be resilient? Would you prefer your young people to be like the young in the west- spoiled, entitled and useless? By the way, what is the alternative for Israel if not to be resilient?
That’s what this Iran / Lebanon war is intended to achieve: an end to this continuous cycle. The negotiations after the Yom Kippur war effectively achieved this result with the Arab countries.
But the 1979 Iranian revolution opened a new front that created circumstances that were totally unanticipated, not only for Israel, but for the entire Middle East and further afield.
If the shah and the Iranian government at the time had realised a reincarnation of the nazi regime would be created with at least a 47 year shelf life, they probably would have ensured khomeini did not step foot in Tehran.
If that was the case, a far more stable Middle East would have been achieved decades ago.
Now the USA and Israel are left to clean up the mess, which after 47 years, is proving not to be a one month campaign.
If ever the world is to return to a far more stable and less threatened geopolitical environment, the khomeini regime does need to be replaced.
Whether this will happen or not, is not yet assured. It is essential to occur though, otherwise there is no guarantee that these evil maniacs won’t rebuild, and in 20 years or less, threaten the entire region again.
If the nazis had had the opportunity, they would have also tried again.
The world needs to do their absolute best to ensure this monster does not raise its head again.
Joshua, I understand the point you’re making, but I think this may be a bit of semantics. Calling Israelis “resilient” doesn’t normalize the violence against them, nor does it change the intentions of Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, or others who openly seek Israel’s destruction. Those threats exist regardless of the language used. And frankly, resilience is not an insult — it’s a virtue. Israelis truly are resilient people. The word simply describes the ability to endure hardship, recover, and continue living despite adversity, which fits Israeli society remarkably well. The real issue isn’t the word “resilience.” The real issue is the existence of enemies committed to Israel’s destruction. Until that threat is decisively dealt with, Israelis will continue to do what they’ve always done: remain resilient and survive.
Jews have had to be resilent for thousands of years, usually by being accomodating or passively accepting second class status in Christian and Muslim lands. Israel is the exception in that Jews were able to arm themselves and not rely on righteous non Jews to offer a certain level of protection. This has caused most Jews in the diaspora to become strong, and those in Israel usually even stronger. This isn't a bad thing, compared to the alternative. Hashem has given most Jews the strength and yes, resilience, to remain Jews when it would be so much easier to just abandon Judaism and convert to the dominant religions that surround us.
Excellent piece which seems to have hit a nerve judging by the comments. Personally I’m sick of having to be “resilient” and running to bomb shelters 5 times a day. Maybe Israel is starting to wake up and realize that playing “ nicey nicey” with the disgusting international crowd is literally a dead end.
I usually agree with most of your commentary; however, on this one, I respectfully disagree. You use the example of a woman in an abusive relationship "resiliently" accepting the abuse. Until she has the "self-strength" to stand up and say, "Enough of this shit!", no amount of intervention from the outside will help her. Israel has spent too many years expecting outside intervention from the so-called "international community" to help stop the abuse at the hands of its neighbors. After October 7th, Israel, and Jews in general, have found that this community is complicit in the abuse. It is like the abused wife looking to the in-laws in vain for help and finally realizing that there is none to be had. Now Israel is saying, "Enough with this shit!" and hitting back with a vengeance. In my judgment, this is the strength of resilience and conviction as well as of arms. And the changing paradigm of which you write, that would be Israel stating plainly to the "ex", to the "international family of in-laws", and to anyone else who wants to listen, that any more abuse will be immediately followed by retaliation, double or triple in kind. No more time wasted talking about it. Just do it. Keep writing my friend and posting your interesting guests. I get a look of value out of the insights gained here on "F-of-J".
As I have said before, in the upper reaches of each of the countries here in The West, the daily War to maintain our Living Standards is waged on our behalf. This War for The West requires as much planning and cunning as the Wars which Israel fights. Crucially, this War for Living Standards takes as much a psychological toll on the Warriors who wage this, as Israel’s war takes on Her. Thus I say once again, you are not alone, Israel. The War to stop Iran’s terrorism and the Nuclear program, is ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY and is being won! And you are admired and wholeheartedly supported!
No my friend you should avoid captions such Palestinian militants. Not militants: "active, determined, and often willing to use force". These people are terrorists practicing human sacrifice in a cultist religion to flout law, sow panic and confuse the click-bait journalists.
You will have to go over our heads. The media and the language is so fucked up. Jews and women, disabled, others of colour, the poor and meek, are not represented by the media.... if we look closer, and the system as a whole.
This is a very silly piece of writing.
It boils down to no more than banging your head against the wall in frustration at circumstances.
This is 180 degrees wrong.
Showing that Israelis are not resilient and are close to breaking will only cause these savages to up their attacks in the hope of breaking them.
What they don’t realize is that an Israel that felt on the verge of defeat would launch its nuclear arsenal.
Or even worse, they realize it but don’t care - as in that whole 12th Imam thing

The very fact that we as Jewish people live in the ME jungle for nearly 4,000 years is already a supernatural achievement.
Yes, the ME has become a natural disaster, an illness, and some type of unhuman temporary setback as of 622 CE.

We have to fight for that to change.
