This past Christmas Eve, the New York Times went to a place I’d never imagine: It published an essay by Gaza City’s mayor, an appointee of Hamas. You know, the world-renowned terrorist group.
As one of your older readers I can say that articles about Israel have been quite biased in the NY Times going back a long way. Also remember that they cheer led us into Iraq with so called factual articles. Anyway, great as usual and yes, I now read the Wall Street Journal.
So when the war started I actually emailed Jodi Ruderon who now works for the Forward. When Ruderon was the Israel person on the Times she never missed an opportunity to malign Israel. Not one. So I got her email and told her that I blamed her not for the attacks but for the fertile ground of Israel hate because of her reporting. She called ne ‘unhinged’ but I think I really upset her which was my intention
The continuous drip drip drip of Israel bashing has had a profoundly awful effect.
In November of this year I canceled my NYT subscription, which I'd had since 2015, due not only to its obvious pro-Hamas bias, but more specifically the overt antisemitism it allows and even promotes in its comment sections. Deleted the app, removed all bookmarks, never visit anymore. They will never get another dime from me. I urge anyone reading this who has a NYT subscription and is even slightly tempted, to cancel it and stop giving them your money. You won't miss the NYT, and you'll feel a lot better for having done the right thing.
I had already unsubscribed years ago because of the NYTimes negative coverage of Israel. I wrote a letter letting them know why and voted with my wallet, but it seems they did not notice.
The New York Times died decades ago. Please refer to their reporting during WWII. Please refer to Thomas Friedman’s stories starting in the 1980’s. They have never made any attempt to disguise their contempt for Jews and Israel. You talk about profit/numbers. I just discovered that there are more Jews than Muslims in the United States and I would guess that many of them are subscribers. What I don’t understand is why? Why give money and respect to a journalistic entity that insults and attacks your community constantly. Forget Israel, look how often they attack and demean the Brooklyn Orthodox community. It’s becoming tiring to watch the hatred towards us.
Reporters from the NYT or any other leftist media aren’t gullible, they’re merely anti-Israel. Jews being portrayed in accordance with their subjective and laughable definition of ‘nazis’ who kill poor defenseless palestinians indiscriminately, just because they’re palestinians, sells more papers, in print or online. The fact that those Jews are Israelis is incidental. It’s just too tempting to pass up. I think that their reporting about the gaza hospital bombing was downright criminal. We’re all aware of their corrupted journalistic values by now. What I don’t understand is why they’re still commonly referred to or trusted as a reliable source whatsoever. Moreover, the Times and other likeminded outlets absolutely helped Trump’s campaign, his exploding popularity, and his subsequent election- he really didn’t need to spend too much money on ads, if at all. It was nauseating because everyday all day in America that’s all we heard about. Bari was right and she obviously made the right move. You can be a liberal without becoming the illiberal progressive sheep we have to grapple with today. They are no different than Trump and his voters whom they despise, they’re simply on the other end of it. F’k the Times.
The elites in culture and in power (with respect to the USA) have decided that certain kinds of Americans are “the enemy”. White, older, male, Christians, as well as mildly conservative, cultural Jews are two of these kinds (but not the only ones). Can we (I am one of those Christians) see ourselves as allies against this movement, even though we sometimes disagree on other matters? I think the situation is so dire that we have to seek out resisting allies - or we’re all going to lose.
I’m just waiting for Bret Stephens to announce his final column. I cant imagine how he has tolerated the bias since he left the WSJ. I love The Free Press. I wish I could find another newspaper with a good games section. It’s the only thing that keeps one sane after the insanity of the “hard” news.
Been dead since 2016 - You are just now noticing the stench.

Same, also The Free Press. Pretty diverse.
I even dabble in Epoch Times now and again
Not to mention this foolish headline just in The Evening newsletter December 28, 2023:
"Hamas weaponized sexual violence on Oct. 7"
As if sexual violence was just fine before. What is it with these people? [At least the text of the investigative article is accurate].
OMG, you’re right, what an insane headline
Very true, or like we haven’t been aware of it this whole time but the Times’ acknowledgement of it made it so. They’re terrible.
I was interested in what they had to say but have no access to the Times. Glad to hear that the text was ok.
If you have the stomach to read it: http://archive.today/v6FE2

I did not know that about Jodi, I will now do some investigating.

The New York Times has disgraced itself forever.
Very well put!
Done with the New York Times. Should have happened sooner

I have noticed this...perhaps you have too.

Goodbye Israel bashers!
Couldn't agree more!
Christmas has often been one of the bloodiest and most dangerous nights for Jews. Why break the tradition? 🎄

I’ll have to check it out. Thx ☺️
Unbelievable but not surprising. Thanks for sharing Dr. Rae!
