As you have not lived in the US for some tike, you may not be perceiving as acutely as many of us here do the alarming assault of the current US Administration on Constitutional protections and the rule of law. I have zero quarrel with deporting Khalil if he is guilty of actions that justify this under American law. But I am not willing–nor in my view should any American be willing–to cede such as decision to the whims of the Executive branch, absent due process. This Administration has repeatedly demonstrated that it believes itself to be above the law. That is the philosophy of emperors and autocrats. Today they may choose deport someone we gladly would like to see gone; tomorrow it may be our family members, friends or us.
