Let’s call a spade a spade. Jews have a long genetic memory of pogroms and other persecution primarily involving Catholics and other Christians. The Jews among the Bolsheviks delusionally thought that Communism would put the Christians in their place and finally make us equal. And somehow the Republicans became cast as the party of the Christians and a vote for them was a vote for Jesus and pogroms. Even though Christians are now Israel’s greatest supporters, all many of us can see is a Polish peasant threatening us with a stick. The mania is so complete that we can’t see the Muslim waving a gun at us on the other side.

Hmm.... for those of us on the center-left, who have always been liberals, this reads as pretty insulting. What, we're all just stupid? We are imagining the blood-and-soil nativism that has entirely taken over the GOP and which is happy to support Israel so long as it fights Muslims, but despises American Jews and sees us as foreigners?

Yes the Democrats are not perfect. But unlike the GOP, they are a fractious bunch and are controlled by no one person and no one ideology. Leftists trying to take over are often vile and rarely successful for long.

What are our choices here? Fight for a place among the Democrats or beg at the table of the latest GOP strongman? You want examples of Jew-hatred among Republican presidents? It's a long list.

So honestly, this analysis was worth less than the time it took to read it, and I read fast.

Get serious, anonymous"opposite side." As one who was on the left for many years, my eyes opened at some pain to myself. I am not pro-GOP but it should be clear to anyone at this point that the Democratic Party is everything Dan Greenfield says, a veritable cesspool of antisemitism and getting worse. What you are spouting is tired rhetoric that was inculcated in all of this when we were children. It's over. Times change. Political parties change. You're going to have to face it sooner or later.

Then you might as well leave, because you are fooling yourself if you think the current GOP isn't a clown show of bigotry. Or we can fight for a place. Those are the choices. See my reply to Jack Bankier below.

I am the conservative Christian who routinely votes Republicans. Please tell all these questioning Jews how they have to fear me more than an Islamic party (the Democrat party). I’m in for the laughs, at least.

You are as utterly delusional as the Shtetl Jews in Eastern Europe that Jabotinsky warned to leave in the late 1930's as in: "Yiden, farlozt ayer shtetl!" ("Jews, he is coming, abandon your villages.")

They stayed and went to Auschwitz, Treblinka, Sobibor, Majdanek, Chelmno and Belzec to be exterminated.

Islam is now The Democrat Party at Prayer. A new poll indicates that 65% of Jews will now vote Republican tomorrow. You are the Jewish remnant that will soon disappear in America one way or another.

Hold your nose and vote GOP and live. We need your vote and we are not Jew haters like the Democrats nor do we want Israel gone as they do.

Times have changed. You are not stupid, just in denial.

History rhymes. We've been here before. American Jews are just unused to it and are in panic mode. I look at this a little differently... I am a first generation American Jew, so culturally not one at all in this sense. None of this is really a surprise.

The instinct to go where the "allies" are, by some fleeing to the GOP? It's stupid. Allies are where you make them, one thing at a time. No one will ever love us for being the Jews and that includes the GOP.

The current GOP is no refuge, and the current Democrats are problematic. So? We need to do the work of politics, and generally most Jews are aligned with the left (not leftists, just the center-left). So that's where we fight for a place.

Please, oppositeside, be insulted. The emotional energy might snap you out of your intoxication.

What do you expect from a man can’t who can’t objectively write about the history of Anti-Semitism in the Republican Party and what’s taking placet today with the Groypers, Tucker Carlson, Candice Owen’s, The Heritage Institute and the VP. This article would be laughable if it weren’t so disingenuous and pathetic. What a load of tripe.

Context is important here: The Jewish People are not the only group feeling the cold winds of Hatred from The Far Left and the new open Politics of Racial Resentment coming from front organisations like The Democratic Party. It is aimed at White folks too, as The Excellent President Trump is finding. This is the essential nature of the Politics of Emotion fostered by unscrupulous leadership: it changes Hate-target easily, and thus always becomes Antisemitism, the oldest Hatred. As the Malthusian exploding populations in The Third World arrive at America’s Southern Border, facilitated too by the open borders policies of previous Democratic Administrations which already has let huge numbers in, The Democratic Party is going to have an even easier job from this new client-vote base. We are hoping the Midterms tomorrow go The Republican Party’s way. Or is the America which was the beacon and guarantor of Western Freedom about to be swept away, ended by the venal simplicity of the Malthus Demographics and its Marxist alliance with the Left?

This essay is very disturbing, indeed! I think, however, that it carries significant truth which must be factored into any realistic understanding of reality for American Jews. Yes, American antisemitism is deeply embedding the Democratic Party historically and today. It is more present than in the Republican party, except to the extent that today's Republican base includes the ethos of the former Dixiecrats

Sad and disturbing, indeed! Many Black people are saying the same thing about the Democratic Party as exploiting, disempowering, and ripping them off. Yet the left has accepted the Black hatred of Jews and it's commection to the Nation of Islam as well as the dominance of Muslim prison ministries.

If El-Sayed enters the Senate, more of us will understand how Jews have no home as Democrats. These folks have no idea how Democrats, and especially Progressives, don't give a rat's ass about Jews and are openly hostile to Orthodox and Haredi - especiallybanyone who looks or dresses like a Jew. Most have no clue that they are no different from Germans in the 1930's.

In the longer run of American History, the Democratic Party was the pro-slavery party that dismantled Reconstruction and continued on as a racist party until change began under FDR’s New Deal coalition building, though even he needed to appease powerful Southern congressmen. Politicians like Hubert Humphrey and LBJ, over time, maneuvered the Democrats into more liberal programs. But then, as with most corrections, the Party overshot the mark, starting with McGovern.

In contrast, the Republican Party began as an anti-slave party and saw the Civil War to its conclusion, amending the Constitution to expand rights in ways we now take for granted. It was the Party of small government which led it into the political wilderness courtesy of FDR. It was Nixon who developed the “Southern Strategy” as a counter to the Great Society programs and to appeal to what he saw as a “silent majority.” One could say that this course correction also went too far.

Are we entering another period in American politics where the two parties readjust or simply continue sailing off into their separate sunsets. Surely some political group will arise that appeals to the great mass of centrist voters.

And should that happen, future Americans might look at one or both of our current parties the way we look back at the Federalist and Whig Parties who had their time in the Sun before disappearing completely from the political scene.

Let’s be clear. This conservative Evangelical Christian, who some tell you to fear, has run around Seattle with a four foot by six foot American flag. I was assaulted twice, and seriously threatened several other times. It didn’t matter - I will not bend my knee to those who would take my freedom from me.

Vote Republican to stop the Islamic takeover of the USA! You will not regret it!

George Will called it “selective indignation.” Why do you ignore the challenging relationship Eisenhower had with the young Israel, and the very contentious relationship between the GOP and Israel under Reagan and both Bush presidents?

John Galt III's avatar

George Washington and John Adams had no problem with Jews.

Reagan had the USSR Communists to fight. Sorry he ignored you, Rabbi. He was easily the greatest GOP president since WWII. The Bushes didn't hate Israel like Jimmy Carter.

Question: Please be more explicit about Adlai Stevenson antisemitism. I may be naive, but no one I know of ever heard of it.
