Excellent post. Sharing. I’m not Jewish but I am a committed supporter of Israel. I just don’t get Jews who oppose Israel. Do they think that will make people like them?
April, thank you so much for you support. We represent less that half a percent of world population and frankly, without the support of people like you, we would be extinct. All the best to you, papa j
I imagine that Jewish anti-Zionists run the gamut from impractical Jewish academics to bigoted antisemites who happen to have a Jewish ancestor. There are seven million Jews in Israel and no other country is going to take them all in. That was conclusively proven in the 1930’s. There is no Arab society that is tolerant of minority populations. It’s pretty clear what would happen to Israeli Jews in an Arab country, given that 800,000 Jews were expelled from Arab lands, in most cases down to the last Jew. Academics who blather on about “diasporaism” are detached from reality. The others are left-wing bigots who use their Jewish ancestry to give cover to antisemites.
”At its root, the Jewish anti-Zionist position is simple: The Jews are an ethnic or religious group, they would claim, while countries should be multicultural political entities equally representing all of their citizens.”
Yes, the Jews are an ethnic and religious group, but historically they are also a national group too, a point these anti-Zionist Jews conveniently ignore.
“Some anti-Zionists go further, taking a Diasporist approach: Not only should a country refrain from reflecting an ethnic group’s distinct culture, but the Jews in particular are better off when we live dispersed among the nations.” And further, “One can imagine a moral world in which solidarity is extended to all humans without regards to culture or belief.”
The homogenization of all peoples , that is eliminating any cultural, ethnic, religious,or national feature of their collective identity is a fundamental tenet of Marxist Internationalism. The argument that the Jew would be better off living dispersed among the nations would be a surprise to Medieval Spanish and Portugese Jews, Pale of Settlement Jews, 20C German Jews, Mizrachi Jews under Muslim rule, to name but a very few who enjoyed such benefits.
“Concentrating all the Jews in a single country, they argue, especially a country in conflict with the Palestinian national movement, undermines the accumulated experience of generations of exile where Jews learned to empathize with the weak and powerless.”
Pure Orwellian doublethink. Jews are supposed to support “Palestinian national” movement because if they do not, they make themselves immoral by undermining their ability to empathize with the weak and powerless. However, when they deny the right to their own Jewish nationalism, they make themselves weak and powerless, but to be sure that in doing so they can console themselves that they are demonstrating their moral superiority.
Another conundrum: if failing to support “Palestinian nationalism” is a sign of Jewish failure to empathize with the weak and powerless, does this mean “Palestinians” empathize with Jewish nationalism because having been “exiled” and persecuted like the Jews, they empathize with the weak and powerless Jews who live at the mercy of any country that will have them?
To put it another way, “to legitimize the existence of the U.S. while calling for the dissolution of Israel — is not only hypocritical. It is immoral because it distinguishes between what is permitted to some and not permitted to others.”
A brilliant piece as always. I just don’t understand why these Jews are so vindictive. It makes no sense. To be quite honest, in the current climate, they should show full support for Israel. Things at the moment can turn on a sixpence, they could be next! Only safe space would be Israel!
Antipathy towards Zionism, once common in the American Jewish Reform movement, was almost understandable prior to the Holocaust. Particularly once Israel achieved statehood and repeatedly proved its ability to both survive and thrive, such aversion became unjustifiable and thus faded away. Now we have a small group of “anti-Zionists,” and their hostility is not only meritless, but it needlessly endangers their fellow Jews.
WHO would be crazy enough to establish a tiny tenuous nation surrounded by a billion people who want to tear every one of you limb from limb - UNLESS it really IS THE LAND of your forefathers, where your people established their religious and cultural way of life. Jews are not stupid - then Israel is the culmination of everything that led up to it.
I disagree that nations should be this or that. It’s up to their citizens. The politicians who have allowed in exponentially breeding parallel society ghettos that despise our values and way of life and proudly shove their female apartheid in our face with the oppressionwear uniform nations and citizens across Ed the west condemned - when it was Iran.
The Palestinians have made it clear. ThHEY reject two states. They would at every opportunity massacre and rape Jews if the chance arose.
Nearly one million Jews living in Arab regions of the the middle east were thrown out - losing their homes and properties. Palestinians we’re thrown out of Jordan and Kuwait. Not a peep.
The 1973 victory should have seen the expulsion of Palestinian squatter descendants of original Arab squatters, mostly just a few generations. But Israel didn’t. But keeping the vanquished enemy under control by treason strictest chafing security thumb, poisons Jews and Arabs alike and is untenable.
My solution now - pay each Palestinian a descent fair compensation - like $50,000 each - so they can leave Israel behind with some dignity and return to their native lands to properly start new lives.
Would so do that - pay them to leave. But. . . they have a thing about giving up sovereignty over any piece of land that was ever, for any reason, once under the rule of Islam. It's a thing with them. They won't stop hating until this happens and we are all Muslims. Or dead.
Let me see, how much do I dislike the Anti-Zionist Jew? Worse than the Pro-Hamas animals? No, not at all that bad but more like the Gays for Gaza. I think the correct term use by Bibi was "useful idiots"
I just hope that they and no Jews ever have to through what our people had to go thru with Nazi Germany. I have no doubt that these Anti-Zionist Jews would quickly change their tune.
Its unfortunate that some Jews, thankfully very very few, lack the brains and ability to see that Zionism is not a luxury, it is a matter of survival.
>If the last 2000 years proved anything is that this small nation among nation must have a place of refuge! Not a country that,, for whatever period, welcomes in Jews, but can change its mind and politics, but a place that always "has our back."
Just remember that there have been Jewish states in the past that have been destroyed. Remember the Hasmonean Kingdom and how it ended.
What is all this BS? You can't be serious with these comments. Better American military force than China, Russia, Iran and NK. If not us then these are the regimes who'll control the world. If not us then fossil fuels will be extracted from bad actors around the world like Russia, Iran, Venezuela etc. Or perhaps you'd rather China control the world's energy supply through its use of child labor in the Congo where its extracting cobalt for EV batteries. Since when the hell should non-citizens have the right to vote? In what country is that the case? Why do you make a different standard for America? If they want political participation, come here legally and after 5 years become a citizen. Those are the rules. They were the rules for our grandparents. I'm always amused by people who complain about American power. What do you think would be better? A world where communist China is the supreme power? ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Yet participating in the U.S. and other democratic countries’ elections casts these positions in a different light. Anti-Zionist Jews, it turns out, are willing to take responsibility for determining the government of, for example, the U.S. and all it entails: the continued occupation of native lands, the isolation of 15 million indigenous Native Americans on reservations, the continued force projection and military interventions, the ongoing extraction of fossil fuels, and the transformation of those heaps of carbon into greenhouse gasses that threaten humanity’s very future.
Moreover, I have not seen a single party platform calling for the extension of the vote to the tens of millions of unauthorized immigrants and non-citizens living in the U.S. who are currently barred from political participation. They may argue that their political participation is intended to ameliorate these realities yet, by their very participation in a system that perpetuates disenfranchisement, they legitimize the continued existence of America and all it entails.
I am not a Jew. I just happen to be married to a Jew and my son-in-law is on the northern front. As they say, I have some skin in this game. I have zero patience for these so-called Jews who are anti-Zionists. They all need an "attitude adjustment" and I have my own ideas for that process. But for now, I hope that the results of the latest election here in the U.S. adjusts some of those attitudes.
The Jewish anti-Zionist philosophy is for me a simple concept, Jews must be meek "citizens" who are allowed to live or die by the good graces of their host countries. The world wrings its collective hands and builds museums when Jews are massacred.
Jews are forbidden, however, to fight and stand strong martially to protect themselves. Jews, as the article States, cannot be powerful. Balderdash!
If the last 2000 years proved anything is that this small nation among nation must have a place of refuge! Not a country that,, for whatever period, welcomes in Jews, but can change its mind and politics, but a place that always "has our back."
Again, simply, these folks are naive fools! They fit right in with "Gays for Hamas!"
Thank you. There is an ancient Turkish (not Muslim) parable that wisely states: "The forest was shrinking but the trees keep voting for the axe." He convinced the trees that because his handle was made of wood he was part of them and they would not be harmed. Anti-Zionists and pro-Palestinians as well as the West that ignores or sympathies with Islamist causes, should heed this. They are the trees and the Axeman cometh. They are next

I’m a goy, but to the extent my opinion is relevant, I say: make
anti Zionist Jew an oxymoron again
Thanks Doug for you support. It is very much appreciated. papa j

During holocaust they gave. Jews to nazis. But at the end they were kiled

Someone called the Gays for Gaza, Chickens for KFC. That is so great.

Not sure what is worse, the self-hate or they using Comic Sans…
America was not founded on ethnic foundation; it was founded on a set of ideals. The anti-Zionists are also for the most part anti-American as well.
