Twenty years ago, the thought of describing Islam as you have done would have sickened me. Because I couldn't wrap my head around the idea that Muslims (or anyone else) could not be assimilated into Western secular societies. But my husband of Blessed Memory, warned me. A Sabra who spoke Arabic as well as Hebrew, who fought under Ariel Sharon in the IDF, who worked with Arabs and was friendly with some, warned me. One, he said, you must show strength to an Arab or he will never respect you. Two, no matter how much they like you they will almost always kill you if their religious leaders order it. Today, I realize my husband was right. Josh, your words are right. And Winston Churchill - who was not right about everything - was spot on (and ahead of his time) when it came to recognizing villainy. He warned Britain and the world about the evils of Hitler and the Nazis 10 years before WW2, but no one listened. At the turn of the 20th century he likewise warned Europe about the evils of Islam (a.k.a. Mohammedanism). Today, as Israel valiantly fights Islamic deceivers and conquerors – and Western nations foolishly welcome them by the millions into their midst - let us look back to Winston’s observations, written in his 1899 book The River War: “How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries, improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement, the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property, either as a child, a wife, or a concubine, must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Muslims may show splendid qualities, but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.” Sadly Winnie, no one listened to you about Islam either. And Europe is falling.

(Note: This passage was confirmed as "true" by Snopes, a fact-checking entity. Also, the Churchill Centre has confirmed these words were indeed written by Winston Churchill.)

Joshua, you are absolutely correct in everything you have stated in your article. Shared humanity is a lovely concept, and those who stress it, "makes them feel good." (As Einat Wilf has said about the war and it's pro Hamas supporters. The irony is you can't have shared humanity when the message from DEI, excludes certain groups and encourages divisiveness. You can't have shared humanity when as Ido Aharoni said, "Hamas is a death cult." There is one huge and dangerous reason we can't enjoy a shared humanity because it is so difficult to counter the hate for Jews and Israel, which you wrote about in another article (I believe it was yesterday's), and that is the huge swath of money controlling politics, businesses, real estate, education, universities, etc. that is infecting our Western values because of the "obscenely generous donors." In cities like New York and elsewhere, the police do little to nothing because of the progressive no bail laws that follow the catch and release thinking. As one of many examples, at Berkeley recently, an IDF soldier was to give a speech to Jewish students. The protesters broke windows and forced the Jewish students to evacuate the auditorium. Now in the world of sanity, the police would have evacuated the protesters so the event could go on. I don't know how we can counter this except to say Jews must come out in full force and be as loud as the opposition. It's difficult though when the police are there to protect the pro Hamas people, as they do in New York, and disperse the Jewish groups. I agree with you that on a community, neighborly level we can have a shared humanity. But I will not attempt to with people who would like to see my demise. Cowardice reigns here in the US when it comes to Jews. The only courageous people left are the Israelis. Am Yisrael Chai!
