One had no great desire to be a soldier, and the other was almost killed by railroad workers in Africa before arriving to the Middle East. Plus an honorary mention.
You should also give credit to the Australian Light Horse Brigade that were the mounted infantry that captured Beersheba and entered Jerusalem with the British contingent.
A very interesting article about these men. It is amazing how times have changed. I wonder how Patterson would feel about the Anti Semitic atmosphere that pervades Ireland now, and Allenby, whose United Kingdom and its government are too cowardly to speak out against the Muslims and their weekly Saturday protests, or those in Parliament who are afraid to say anything or support the Jews about what is going on regarding Anti Semitism. Thankfully, those men had courage during a pivotal time in Israeli history, and we need more of them during this war.
Definitely enjoyed this! Patterson is such an iconic figure. The Tsavo story is one of my all time favorites; I was unaware of his connections to the founding of Israel. Thanks Joshua!

Fascinating history!
You should include brigadier Orde Wingate. Otherwise from a son of Betar take a thousand upvotes from me.
