By properly going after Hezbollah in Lebanon and Syria, the Israelis will be inviting a bonafide six-front war on themselves — and that does not include Iran. But the price for not is even greater.
I agree completely with your analysis of the situation and the need for a major confrontation before Iran has nuclear capability. I just want to point out what I have said in other comments. Israel should wait until the Nov elections are over in the States. A Trump win will change the dynamics in the Middle East profoundly in our favour. With the US as a strong ally, we would accomplish far more than if Israel goes at it alone. If Harris wins, we still need to do what is necessary but the cost will be far greater.
I understand your point Jerry, but suggest there are some other perspectives to consider.
To begin, conventional wisdom has it that a broader ME conflict would work against Harris and in favor of Trump. I believe that is very likely correct, and is virtually certain to be the major political aspect behind restraining pressures brought to bear on Israel by the current US Administration.
Such a conflict would put the Administration in a bind - but it would primarily be a bind between two powerful, and important political constituencies; ‘Palestinian’ sympathizers of all stripes, and Jewish American Democrats, combined with left-leaning American Democrats who see themselves as supporters of Israel. Not to be dogmatic, but it certainly seems illogical to think that any of the former would fail to vote against Trump, no matter what - and yet the latter have already shown that they can not be counted on to do the same. That being the case, the ‘safest’ political response for the current Administration, as well as the Democratic Party as a whole, would be to continue providing material support to Israel, at least up to the election itself - the rage and anguished howls of protest be damned.
Now, I suggest that the hoped for victory of Trump in November, and subsequent inauguration of a Trump Administration will require a series of true miracles; at least three (3) that I can see, one right after another. I know you don’t believe in such things Jerry, but I do! That said, will they take place and does Israel have time to wait and see? I hope and pray so, but am inclined to think not.
Regardless, may the G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob continue to bless and protect His people, Israel. May He grant wisdom, courage, and unity to her leaders, as well as the people of Israel.
May He continue to thwart and frustrate the efforts of Israel’s enemies, from without and within, and give Israel’s warriors courage, strength, skill, protection, and overwhelming victory in battle - as a witness to the world, for His glory, and the glory of His Kingdom.
What do you mean by a “binding promise”? Certainly, there is nothing in the public record about it. And what was the quid pro quo that made it “binding” in your view?
And we all remember the written and very public “binding promise” that President Bush gave Prime Minister Sharon that played a material part in Israel’s 2005 withdrawal from Gaza.
That “binding promise” was among the very first things President Obama reneged on upon assuming office in 2009. So what exactly is your point - even assuming you can prove the existence of the “binding promise” you claim.
After reading your excellent analysis, I must respectfully disagree with your headline. In my judgment, Israel is following the LEAST dangerous path by going after Hezbollah now. Rule #1: do what is best for Israel. Do not wait for the American elections. That is American business. This is Israel business. If anything, an attack before the election will give both candidates an opportunity for some serious soul searching. Do not wait for Hezbollah to recover and get ready. It will not surprise me to hear that some of those 150,000 rockets mysteriously explode on their launch pads when the firing button is pushed. Do not wait for Iran to decide what it will do. Make them worry about what Israel will do. Hit Hezbollah now, at the time of your own choosing, and hit them hard. The time for "politically correct defense" is over. No Gaza 2.0. Send the clear and unmistakable message that if you do not want Israel to "escalate" this war, then stop shooting rockets at it and trying to kill their people. Cite UN Resolution 1701 as your justification and ask the membership of the UN, as corrupt and despotic as they are, to support you. These are desperate times that will not get any less desperate by waiting around.
Implementation of 1701 should be a priority. Need that buffer zone now. Too many people have been removed from their homes to accommodate the JizzboAllah rockets. Almost worth spreading a little Teller light on the area up to the Litani.
You’re right: It is an Iran war. This is bigger than the dust bin of Gazans but the ‘plight of poor Palestinians’ has to continue for world sentiment. Israel’s quiet hits on Iran are amazing. Great read.
Probably BS really what do you expect. The poor child was probably an 18 year old well trained card carrying member of the Junior JizzboAllah organization party of god indeed.
I love the way you are comparing the boxing categories with our beloved Israel and her genocidal enemies ......it's really marvelous, let's keep on praying ......I don't think Israel should wait after the US election to take action, they know what to do....Shabbat Shalom.....blessings......
I can't find anything in your assessment with which I disagree. UN holding a hollow session on abolishing nuclear weapons....is there a chance Israel can do some damage to Iran's installation buried in bunkers underground? Nearly a hundred thousand Israelis forced from their homes. No one says if Arab villages and towns have agreed to be evacuated in a region that THEY are the MAJORITY. I suspect not. Half a million Jews in Judea and Samaria....Israelis should be thinking about the beautiful Galilee region.
Because the winter in the middle east is nothing like a Russian winter. German troops literally froze to death in the Russian winter. Secondly, the Germans had long supply lines Israel does not.
That was for optics. The Iranians and Saudis still despise each other and the Saudis have been helping Israel throughout this war, including using Saudi airspace to attack Iran and Yemen.

No. Israel gas mot signed the NPT.

No. They did not. In any case that was well over 50 years ago.
There was no such mutual agreement.

The Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron and his sons, ‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:
“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’
“So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.”
Numbers 6, v22 to 27

I’m already seeing complaints that “there was child standing next to one of those Hezbollah members—war crime!”

Israel you are brilliant. You take your time and weigh up the evidence. Then you administer a surgical attack. You succeed every time.
Really interesting analysis.
Just out of curiosity, why do YOU think Dick Cheney endorsed Kamala (without becoming.a Democrat) other than his stated reason?
Not sure specifically but probably because there is something in it for him and/or for his daughter if she wins.
When the opponent is on the ropes, knock him out.
This is a lazy comparison.
Because the winter in the middle east is nothing like a Russian winter. German troops literally froze to death in the Russian winter. Secondly, the Germans had long supply lines Israel does not.
Of course you support genocidal Islamic terrorists against the only democracy in the region.
Israel is not doomed at all. Israel is winning the war and in fact has just wiped out the top Hezbollah commanders in an air strike.
That was for optics. The Iranians and Saudis still despise each other and the Saudis have been helping Israel throughout this war, including using Saudi airspace to attack Iran and Yemen.
Kashoggi was too friendly with CAIR and the muslim brotherhood. https://www.brookings.edu/articles/on-jamal-khashoggi-the-muslim-brotherhood-and-saudi-arabia/.

SA (MBS) does not like the muslim brotherhood.
I do not like CAIR or the muslim brotherhood. I think the brotherhood was responsible, looks like their style.
Yikes. that's alot of rage.
