Need more proof Hitler and the Nazis were socialists? Just look at the actions they took in the realm of public policy. They started social programs intended to unlock class barriers, started the German Labor Front to fight for better pay, workplace conditions and hours for German workers, started massive public works projects to put Germans back to work, expanded old-age insurance and welfare, implemented wage and price controls, did production quotas, controlled trade through cartels and monopolies protected by the state, nationalized some industries and banks, did land reform, and Gleichschaltung or in English, Coordination of all aspects of German economic, social and cultural life under the control of the party and state apparatus. The Nazis also considered doing rent control, profit-sharing, abolishing unearned income, and nationalizing all businesses period.
Jews and other minorities were of course, not eligible for any of these welfare programs or benefits. They also kicked the Strasser Brothers and their followers out of the Nazi Party for having beliefs a little too similar to regular socialists for their liking and Gregor Strasser would be murdered on Hitler’s orders during the Night of the Long Knives. I thought his comparisons with the fighting between Protestants and Catholics in Northern Ireland and Shi’ites and Sunnis in various Middle Eastern countries was brilliant. At the end of the day, Mr. Buckley is correct. It’s not about left vs. right anymore, that dichotomy needs to be scrapped. It’s about statism vs. individual liberty. Yes! Indeed the sharing goes beyond the family in functional groups. It is also "in our DNA" (there are hereditary and cultural proximal mechanisms that the DNA and cultural norms encode) to be in small bands, tribes and villages/kibbutsim, and share much with the people in them, but not as much as with our family members. This is a general principle of "proper nesting", the higher up in the hierarchy of nested groups you go, the less sharing is appropriate. It emerges from simpler principles (related to free riding suppression), but that is another story. It applies upwards from individuals to the groups they are nested in, and lower, within individuals (organs, cells and organelles).
Socialism, even the one practiced in most Kibbutsim (the ones where family sharing was not strong enough), does not respect proper nesting principles. Even cells can be selfish in a multicellular organism. When their selfishness goes against the interests of the biological organism, or the social system, we call it cancer or free riding respectively. Selfishness could be a good thing if there is alignment with the higher level group, as in keeping good boundaries and preventing invasion by hostile forces (so this could be selfishness at different levels, including the cellular level all the way to the national level and beyond). Every organism (biological or social), from DNA to cells to multicellular organisms, to the family, to nations, has some ways to incentivize alignment, and punish misalignment (or perceived misalignment) for its parts. Some ways are more totalitarian, like with ants or bees, or totalitarian human nations (or families or companies, etc). The better way is to first of all not have too many "parts" to monitor for alignment (people in a family, families in a village, villages in a tribe, tribes in a federation, federations in a nation and perhaps beyond towards a functional united nations--which the current one is not, but neither are most nations, lacking functional tribes, villages, and now even functional families and individuals). Alignment does not mean sameness, there can still be much agency for people in this better way. But don't skip the intermediate levels, which is what capitalism incentivizes (and many kibbutzim also effectively skipped some of the family roles). Incentivizing (as opposed to just monitoring for) alignment also has to involve some strong social glue (for biological organisms it is just survival). Like religion, and/or economic interdependence. You’re absolutely right Nick Nazi is indeed short for National Socialist German Worker's Party. The narrative was changed after WWII. The AfD has explained this. I personally think the narrative was changed in order for the globalists to continue their communist agenda and not give socialism a bad name. They were allies with communists once for a brief period but they are always dominated by psychopaths so end up killing each other and both have a modus operandi of creating oppressed and oppressors to divide and rule. The true right/left divide is as suggested in the article, that the further left you go, the more state control, the further right, less state control. The two extremes are totalitarianism and anarchy. Neither desirable. I think Nazis were placed on the right to place distance between two ‘ideologies’ competing to see how many human beings they could kill, which of course, included many Jews.
